Looks like the MacBook Pro webcam is still 720p. It's got the processing upgrades from the iMac Pro with the T2 chip, just not the 1080p resolution. 🧐

The thinness of the last couple gen MacBook Pros seem to have shoved Apple into an interesting corner. Competitors such as the Surface Book 2 13" have dedicated GPUs now, but the possible thermal solutions available to Apple likely cannot handle the thermal load due to how thin their MBPs are now. I also doubt they would make their devices thicker in order to support such upgrades. I'm curious to see where Apple will go with this new competition. (Unless the Black Magic external GPUs WERE their attempted answer)

I have used windows for all my life, and decided that it is time to try Mac. Well, I have NEVER have been so happy for any of my choices in life. Even the sound of keyboard is best I've heard. The only problem is heat - if I use its cpu at full potential, it gets really hot. Yes, I could get a laptop with much better specs with that kind of money, but I am person, who really appriciates design and feel of quality. I really like to get this laptop out of my bag every single morning - the feel of metal, the weight, the writing on it, when my laptop isn't bending when I push a key. And I haven't written anything about OS yet. macOS Mojave is so great, much, much more simpler than Windows, without ANY lags. It doesn't just work - it lows. Every action you are doing on mac is a flow. Perfect flow. People that design these laptops and OS are perfectionists. I can see that now. My girlfriend uses Windows, and I am stunned how much time it needs to do even simplest of tasks. Crazy. If you can afford it, buy it, try it, and I am sure you will like it. If you can't afford it, don't hate it.

Austin keep it 100% with us. After learning that the highest end 2018 15'' model had some SERIOUS thermal throttling issues, I came back to your previous video and couldn't help that you somewhat glossed over temperature, comepletely missing the bigger issue. And you even chose rendering a video that was only a couple seconds long and would only take less 3 minutes to do so. And I KNOW Austin Evans doesn't easily leave room for error like this. So it begs the question: Were you truly oblivious to this issue, or is there something you didn't mention? best regards.

Aurthur Radley For me, it works just perfectly fine. It’s just when I do medium intensive workloads is when it starts to really lag up and slow down. The fans start to run immensely and it gets very hot to touch. Also, I think I broke my “W” key on my keyboard which is another major reason I want to upgrade. When I try to press it, it isn’t as responsive as it used to be, which can be difficult when gaming. I would also love to hear your experiences. c:

I bought my 2009 Macbook Pro new and have had it as my primary computer ever since. It's been on its last leg for a while, but the fact that it's still going after almost 10 years and has never been taken in for service is pretty remarkable. Every Windows PC I've had got buggy and inoperable within a few years. I keep looking for reasons to believe it's not worth investing in another Macbook but I just don't see anything as reliable and virus-proof. However, I can't shell out over $2k for a 13 inch. I think maybe the best bet is getting a refurbished one or waiting another year and getting a 2018 when it's old stock.

Aesthetically pleasing does not mean the same as build quality. I'd argue that Apple's aesthetics are always bang on point and always out do other devices, but build quality is laughable and should be scorned whenever possible. Austin know's Linus, so I'm assuming he knows Rossman. How is it that he can see the problems both of those guys come across with build quality every day, and still he says they have the best build quality? I just dont get it.

Let's be real, all laptop manufacturers skimp on electronics' quality whenever they can because laptops are not exactly marketed towards hardware enthusiast.
@kodaloid
@kodaloid 6 жыл бұрын
That would be a completely valid point, if Apple didn't actively and viciously curtail 3rd party repairs on a criminal level, then charge premium prices pushing things into the enthusiast pricing territory. Apple's build quality would not suck so hard if they acknowledged the limitations of their product, and gave third parties the ability to repair things that very commonly go wrong, like hinges snapping, screens getting broken and cooked GPU's (due to lack of cooling by design) by providing vendors a way to acquire the parts they need to do their job. Yes laptop manufacturers skimp on build quality, but they can get away with it because in the end you'll always be able to find a part for a non Apple laptop. Apple on the other hand has no excuse, and should not be defended while they remain anti-consumer.

recently watched a video of Steve Jobs being insulted during one of the Apple events. He said that his goal was always to design apple around the customer and the consumer--rather than the reverse (which is to focus on what "cool" technology they can impliment just because they can). sadly after his death Apple has become exactly what he didn't want it to be. they're thinking of the product first and the consumer last--removing things like the SD card is simply proof of that. Apple has changed, fanboys need to see that...it's no longer about creating products that make people and creatives happy and inspired.

Actually you answered the question within that response. Forcing people to buy dongles, a different charger for their phone and laptop (even though supposedly USB C is the 'future' they're aggressive about...even though they hypocritically don't exclusively use USB C for all their products), and so forth. You'd be astonished how much money all of this makes Apple. I fully agree with you however. Why can't they make money by simply being the best out there? Considering the tech giant they are, there's no excuse why they can't make products that simply destroy the competition. The sad truth is that Tim Cook is not a creative. He is a businessman and he trusts the creative decisions at Apple to a divided group of people who don't share a unified and strong vision. They don't have an executive who is able to distinguish taste, style, art and innovation--Tim Cook wouldn't know any of that sadly. He doesn't seem like a bad guy but I liken him to a grandfather who doesn't know how to dress himself stylishly. He's like that grand-dad that has no idea how to dress and leaves the decision to his kids or spouse on how to look modern and classy. Apple thrived when it had a creative person at its helm making the final decisions, and that is no longer the case here.

You're complaining about not having an SD slot? Did you also complain about PC manufacturers getting rid of the floppy drive too? If you still use SD for anything, just get an adapter until the rest of the world catches up to Apple and starts using better tech like SSD's/Thunderbolt-3/USB-3/etc.

The xps 13 had many problems such as the cpu fan making a grinding noise, track pad was temperamental, screen wasn't great (I had 1080p option) and for some reason the cpu wouldn't go above 1ghz meaning that doing things like photoshop and premiere like I do a lot was very difficult if not impossible. The macbook has better build quality imo, better screen, better trackpad and then there's the subject of support. Dell never seemed to care whenever I had problems or they didn't offer any good advice. With apple, any query or problem I've had, I have got through to a support agent either through text or call chat in no time and they've been very committed to help me for even the slightest problem. When I went to dell about my problems they took days to respond then said its not their issue because the laptop wasn't bought from them and closed the ticket. They've also lied to me in the past with previous laptops. Apple also gives you a physical store to go back and complain to if you need to. However I have heard of many people having good experiences. It's luck with Dell whether your experience is good or bad. Personal preference is a big factor as well. The Macbook isn't perfect, but it's the best I've experienced. If you are going for a base macbook Pro without touchbar I would wait for them to update them with 8th gen processors. Also 128gb is a bit small for storage in my opinion. Depends on what you are doing whether a mac is for you.

I’m thinking about 13” i5 quadcore, 16gb ram 256 ssd and 15” hexacore, 16gb ram 256 ssd. What do you think. Will the differences be very big between these 2 models? Does the 13" is more weaker than 15" in performance? Because 15" one has 6 cores i7 and gpu inside. I will use for photoshop, adobe illustrator at my work and editing my travel videos (very rarely). I will use a external monitor, ssd also.

You're paying $500 extra for a better design, much better build quality, better display, much faster SSD, faster processor, faster graphics, Apple ecosystem, better webcam and touchbar. Sounds worth it to me, at least. Edit: Forgot to mention, way better trackpad :D

What Austin completely omitted is what kind of a machine you *could* get for the price of the Macbook. The XPS has a really, really solid screen, and build quality is very good on them. And their cooling is a lot better, too. For the price of the base 13" MBP you could get an XPS 15 with a six core i7 and a GTX 1050ti, as well as 8GB RAM. That's not even competition anymore.

@@HJ-yj4xj I'll tell you why...first the touch bar has it's own dedicated processor that's why it is lag free even when you are doing intensive tasks. Second the touch bar models have faster processors in then then the non touch bar models. Fun fact the i5 in the Mac book pro touch bar models is better then the i7 version of the air.

I picked up the 2018 13" MBP from best buy. I got $150 student discount. It's a nice laptop, my first macbook so I'm enjoying it, especially since I'm all in on the Apple ecosystem. I chose the 13" mainly because it's cheaper than the 15". I wanted the 512gb option and it's another $700 for the 15" version with the 512gb hd. I figure I will save the money, as I don't do much video editing and zero gaming on this laptop. I may build a gaming PC later for home use so I will put the money I saved towards that down the road.
