Is the 2020 Nissan 370Z a BETTER sports car than the Subaru BRZ & Toyota 86?

The 370Z has been around for what seems like forever. Is it still a sports car standout for $30k, especially when you compare it to the BRZ & 86? Under the hood is a naturally aspirated engine producing 332HP & mated to either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission. It's exterior does have a retro design that ties it back to the Z cars from the past. On the inside you will find a very minimalistic interior. Is the 2020 Nissan 370Z a better sports car than the Subaru BRZ or Toyota 86?

The Z is certainly not perfect, and keyboard warriors that drag this car through the mud for being old and dated do make a few good points, but several years from now I have a feeling that many of us are going to wish we still had new car purchase options like this 370z.

That just it, though. There is no compelling reason to buy one of these new when it's been pretty much the same car for almost a decade with only minor updates. A good case can be made to buy a used one but certainly not new. I would certainly be interested in an up-to-date version of this car. Sports coupes are my thing. Unfortunately, Nissan just doesn't want my money.

This car’s interior is both a blessing and a curse. It’s a no bs interior with minimal electronic gimmicks; simple tech meant to last. That’s great for a sports car. But at the same time, the interior means they can’t get away with the asking price for these brand new. Tough sell. I’m glad it exists though.

Well, coming from my Uncle, who retired last year from Nissan of 42 years, he said Nissan has no plans to make another Z anytime soon. Sad, but I think its because Nissan knows they can't make another N/A Z and make money on that car. The knowledge of knowing a small displacement 4-cyl turbo vehicle today, with a simple tune and downpipe, would utterly destroy a N/A Z in speed, would make potential customers go elsewhere if they went N/A, even with a 4.0L engine. Torque sucks on them, and tuning potential sucks. But if they made their next Z as a turbo vehicle, then you have to make its stock power potential high enough to compete with cars of its class, which would make it a $50k+ car, and then would start to compete with their GTR when people start tuning the Z. So why would people aspire to buy the GTR at its ridiculous price, when they could get a Z for 1/3 of the cost, and almost be as fast? Doesn't make sense. So they are now stuck with "what to do", hence why no plans to make one. What I would like to see is a 3.0L-3.5L turbo Z. I mean did they not make a freaking 3.0L twin-turbo Z in the early 90's called the 300ZX????? My friend has a 1990 300ZX twin-turbo, and it feels just as fast, if not faster, than my other friends 350Z. I won't mention the 370Z because the 350Z has been proven to be barely faster, because its lighter. Anyways, my point is is What Happened To The Z??? It went from twin-turbo, to N/A, and less fast. Yeah, the 350Z is a lot more capable than the 300ZX, but in speed, its just not. Nissan needs to find a way to make the next Z fast, but with tuning potential WITHOUT having to put $8k+ into it, but also making it just as capable and sports-car like, like the 350Z and 370Z are.

This car is outdated, but it is really pure, fun to drive and it is very reliable like a Toyota due to the outdated style I'll give you a tip= THE MOST OUTDATED CAR = THE MOST RELIABLE CAR Toyota makes like several of them, like Tundra's and 4runners etc, but as for Sports cars, Yeah that is where Toyota fails me I don't want another truck lol. Also I like the Nissan V6 sound with a muffler and res delete. Usually I'm a V8 fan, but Nissan V6's sound nice and they have a nice low growl and rumble to it. This was one hell of a car I bought. I have a 2015 370z which was used too and I don't get any issues at all and it is as of now 2021 about to reach 140,000 miles ( I travel like 250 miles a day due to my job which involves business purposes ) So it is a very good car. Never fails me on those fun highway drives. 🙂

I had a 2003 350 Z in glacier pearl. Drove it right off the showroom floor of Glendale Nissan in L.A. paid a mark up and was happy to do it. The Z was earth shattering in 2003. All that performace for under $30k. It’s still a remarkable value from base to NISMO. And yeah, it’s a sexy ass car. The BRZ and 86 that Joe Raiti has a raging boner for, as evidenced in this video, are not panty droppers. Joe has to talk up the car he bought his wife. After driving the Z he knows he made a mistake…. That’s REAL! You can hear it in his delivery. So defensive over the BRZ with its 205 HP. Z is still a sexy car and much better car than either the BRZ or 86. Period

I at one point too had to make this decision between these two cars (and the Subaru WRX as well I was considering). When it came down to it, I chose this car because it its just more raw power and more what I'm looking for out of a sports car. I thought, if I'm gonna get a sports car I want to go all out. The BRZ / 86 cars are fantastic but something about it just feels like a sporty car, not a true sports car at least to me. So for me personally, although I do hate not having more seats and maybe more space and all that the 86 offers, I still am happy with my choice. What do I recommend? Well you're here watching the videos which is great, but why not just go drive them? Test drive both and see which one you want! One other tip I can give, really the best way to choose is to figure out what you want in a car. Do you want a car that'll throw you back in your seat and can give awesome pulls. This car is more in that department. If you want more raw power and a higher horsepower ceiling for tuning and more mods later on, I'd wager to say this car is better for that too. But if you want a car that's a bit more practical and just feels fun to drive, the 86 might also be the better choice. Really just drive both and see how you feel about it. Overall I'm super happy with my decision of choosing the 370z.

You know an automobile is a winner when former owners years later, now wish they had never sold it. The 350/370Z will go down as one of the most iconic sportscars of the last 50 years. A profile that is as timeless now as it was then. It can be debated that the 370z's interior hasn't aged well when compared to the tablets on the dash jobbers of today but the Z makes no apologies that it doesn't have a shuddering steering wheel alongside eight "help me drive this thing" flashing warnings...turning its interior into a Vegas strip at night...each time a Bridgestone dares to touch a white line during a turn. The more time you're looking at illuminating arrows on your rearview mirror, the less time you're looking at the apex. This is a driver's car.

I bought a magnetic black 2019 370Z 6MT with the sport package, for only a few thousand more than the base. The car is a total blast to drive, especially with the stiffer Hotchkis sway bars that I had installed. The only other sports car I would consider would be either a Porsche Carrera S or a Porsche Cayman GT4, although these cars are much more expensive than the Z. I agree that the gauge offerings could be improved. The digital clock should be removed from the 3 gauge cluster on top of the dash and be replaced with an analog oil pressure gauge. The led bars for the coolant temp and fuel quantity should be replaced with analog gauges. The car should have and additional oil cooler, as oil temps can get higher than they should in hot weather.

The 90-96 300ZX is without a doubt the best designed Nissan ever. I like the 370Z, but it has never been as special as the 2nd gen 300ZX, especially the TT. I am very much looking forward to seeing what Nissan has in store for the Z in 2021 or 22. It still is a tremendous performance to dollar value.

@@RaitisRides I have seen rumors that it will also utilize a TT V6, so what are the chances of Nissan doing that? Hopefully it isn't like the first gen 300zx, when it was refreshed. They totally watered that one down, until the 2nd gen redeemed it.

FYI the Sports Package rolls in a decklid spoiler and Rays Forged 19" Wheels plus auto rev match on the manual so you do not need to go Nismo to get the spoiler. I hope they do not mess with the styling too much when they introduce the next Z car as the current styling has aged well IMO.

I was trying to decide between a 370z and an FRS when I was buying my car, after driving, even though the power was quite a bit more in the 370, I had more fun with the FRS, it feels lighter, a little more nimble, and more fun to shift in my opinion. While I desperately want more power in my car now, I still stand by my choice.

Oh bro the Nismo is amazing. I had an frs with full bolt ons and I decided to switch over to the 2018 370z Nismo and the handling is so good. With the extra 150hp it leaves Frs-brz in the dust.

@@trentmclellan1037 nah man it still handles really good! 3 people I know had a BRZ and within 2 years were tired of it. The Z is amazing, this coming from someone who now owns a new Miata, I would rate 370z first, Miata second, and frs last although all good cars if you want light get a Miata, if you want straight line and pretty damn good handling get 370z, the frs is just in this weird middle section where it could be lighter to feel faster, or needs a super charger. Frs was a money pit, Miata is lighter and faster in both corners and straight line.

i have a 2012 370z and i think a lot of aspects of the car are outdated if you are looking to get into a brand new one. i think this is a good car for people that are into building a car and modifying things. personally would still go with my 2012 370 over a brand new brz, frs, 86 or whatever its called

Hi Sir, its me again, ive told you that the way you break down these vehicles helps out alot. my question to you is how much should i spend for a 370 between the years 2012-0217 roughly and with how many miles is safe to get a used 370z. ive driven my 2002 lancer es since i last bought it nov of 01 and its time for me to get a toy.

I'm definitely a Nissan/Infiniti guy. I can vouch for the drivetrain. Pretty much bulletproof. This model is good as an entry level modding platform, although even I have to admit that the interior is really dated.
