The 4Runner has been around for many years and Toyota introduced a new trim called the TRD Sport. On the outside you will find a unique front fascia, hood scoop, 20in wheels and black badging. On the inside you will be greeted by TRD embroidery on the headrests, TRD shifter and 8in infotainment screen. Under the hood is a 4.0L V6 mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner a better SUV to buy than a 2024 Land Cruiser?

I work for Toyota. After lots of research and talking to coworkers I bought one directly from Japan (1 mile on ODO). I love it, probably will die with me! New models will be nice but I want something I can on road trips on and off the road without worrying of getting stranded. Lots of great cars but this one just felt a little extra special for me. Thanks for the review

Congrats, I've been to a Toyota dealer yesterday for a limited in stock. very impressive with the truck, just like my FJ curiser (sold 2 years ago due to a big moving), unfortunately, the dealer asked for more than 4 thousands for some useless services, and have to apply mortgage with the rate of 11%, too crazy.

@@jw715 sorry to hear. Unfortunately we have no say in the dealership markets. I wish you the best in your hunt and as someone who works. I recommend don’t pay above MSRP. Hopefully production ramps up enough to ease the market (trust me… the factories are moving) however the demand is crazy it really can’t keep up

Toyota is the only car brand in the market to be able to have these vintage components in this $40k SUV. Meaning they know they can save on keeping old school components while raising the price of the vehicle across decades 😊 it all comes to one thing, amazing reliability and trust. That’s why we keep on buying these cool looking things

Cracks me up reading posts comparing this to Hyunda or even Land Rover. Those are straight up warranty vehicles. There’s nothing on the market that compares to a Toyota. Nothing. We have both the 4Runner and GX (plus daughter drives CX5 and it ain’t shabby). If it ain’t Japanese, don’t buy it.

I'm driving my 3rd 4Runner, a 2013 Limited ... just turned 140k on the odometer, so many, many more miles to go in it. Love the Lunar Rock color of this TRD Sport! I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around a 4-banging turbo in a nearly 6,000-lb. Land Cruiser, but maybe it'll work? For my money, the 4-liter V6 in these 4Runners is just too good for me to even consider 2 less turbo-charged cylinders with a newer, less proven drive train.

We considered waiting for the new Cruiser, and I have had over 25 years of ownership of Land Cruisers but for me, the 6th gen 4Runner is now the better proposition vs the new Cruiser. They are both Prado’s, the 5th gen is just the older version but it has been absolutely perfected and honed to nearly perfect build quality.from the perspective of a rig I actually want to own for 20 years, it was a no brainer. We picked up a ‘23 SR5 Premium, 3 row. You can’t get a 3 row in the new Cruiser either. Glad to have the 5th gen for the long haul

I absolutely love my 2016 4Runner Premium Black on Black leather or whatever people want to call it now. It is a 2WD though, but only has 60,500 miles on it I am the original owner so I know it has not been beat on. I have always loved the 4Runner going back to high school in the 90's, but the rear window that goes up and down is what sold me on the vehicle back in the day, reminded me of the old 1980 Jeep Chief Cherokee 2 Door my parents had bought in 1980, Nostalgia all the way for me with this 5th Gen 4Runner simplicity, just with a lot of the current creature comforts of new car technology. The 4.0 6cyl with the 5speed tranny is like you said Bulletproof. Even though I love my 4Runner I have wrestled with selling it lately just so I can pay off some debt I have and just pick up another 4Runner by the end of next year, I'll have to see if the money is worth it to sell it though. People should think about buying a 5th Gen 4Runner before they switch it maybe something more like the new Land Cruiser, no one just knows yet about that plan. Keep up these really great Vids. I got the last of the true Land Cruisers...and I got one of the few Heritage Edition models. The last model year was 2021 before they discontinued it for a few years. This new one has the Land Cruiser name but I don't see it the same as the past generations. Mine has a big, naturally aspirated, bulletproof V8 with no compromises on build or materials. And the price reflected it. Mine was just over $90K sticker...by far the most expensive Toyota sold in the US. They cut corners in comparison on this new one in order to hit a much lower price point. It's just not the same. That's my humble opinion! Edit: Not to mention the fact that they also compromised with the engine due to emissions regulations.

What ever model you get, as a 3rd time 4runner owner of a 2022 TRD off Road Premium currently ( my current model doesn't have kdss, other model did and i've had the limited with xreas and trd pro with the trd pro shocks and not KDSS) my Advice is Get the model that either has KDSS or Xreas. Xreas for the best on road handling and almost eliminating body roll. The point that you can place your wallet on the dash and it wont slide or move over bumps or turns. If want moderate off roading and with the better on road handling than the standard 4runner. Get KDSS ( it's basically Disconnecting sway bars) that improves handling on road noticeably than the stock. But not as good as XREAS.

Okay, you seem to care a lot more about aesthetics than I do. I am very old school and don't really care about such things as light bulbs, color matching, infotainment, etc. When the time comes for me to buy a new vehicle, I will get whatever model year 4Runner I can afford. I absolutely love those things. I had a toyota 4x4 pick up many years ago, and it was amazing. I am currently driving a 2007 ford exploder. It was my first ford and will be my last. I mainly bought it because my father in law used to work at ford and got me a massive discount when I bought it. Once it finishes exploding, I will move on to the toyota, Which is probably the best engineered vehicle on the planet.

I’d get a 4Runner while you have a chance. I’ll take a NA V6 than a turbo 4. It’ll outlast the turbo by a long mile. It’s just the nature of turbo.

strange to see mixing LED and halogen bulbs but at least halogen bulbs are easily replaced by the owner instead of having to go to a mechanic for LED issues.

I'm waiting for redesign I hope for 2 things that Toyota keeps V6 and get rid of that "hump" thats there after folding 2nd row seats. I like to go car camping and I wouldn't be able to sleep in the back because of that. I'm 6'3".

I REALLY liked the renderings of the new 4Runner. And I was planning on ordering one. Until I heard about not at least having the V6 as an option. My order was put in for the 2023 frost white Limited with the dark brown leather. Would’ve been nice if they would’ve maybe went to a 8-10 speed transmission. Probably would’ve helped the MPG’s a little bit and those 5 speeds, as bullet proof as they are have always liked to wonder between gears a little too much.

Two things to consider. First, the renderings posted online are not from Toyota, & thus are not necessarily indicative of what the truck will look like. Second, Toyota does not offer an ordering process for consumers or dealers.

@@sawyermartin4434 when I say order. I was implying most folks already knew that. I told my dealer the exact specs I wanted. Got the call on a Wednesday, it was delivered on a Friday and I was there Monday morning, in and out in about an hour. 🤣 👍🏼👍🏼 Thanks for reminding that everything needs to be spelled out.

The new Land Cruiser being a Turbo charged 4 cylinder is extremely unfortunate Imo, SUVs should have a V6 at the minimum. That turbo is gonna go out so quickly, its pulling around a massive chunck of metal🤷 Edit: also, fake vents or exhaust, either give me functional vents or not at all
