Is The 2024 BMW X1 M35i The Best Entry Level Performance SUV On The Market?

Today and thanks to BMW of South Miami, I was able to film the 2024 X1 M35i!
The X1 M35i sits as BMW’s entry level performance model for the North American Market. It rides on the same UKL2 Chassis that is used for its Sibling the X2. Powering the X1 M35i is a 2.0 Twin Scroll Turbo 4 Cylinder that produces 312 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. All that power is sent out through a 7 Speed DCT transmission with x-Drive being standard. At the front of the AWD system is an M Limited Slip Differential that helps transfer power when the system feels slippage from either wheel.
On the interior we have 2 large displays. The Gauge cluster comes in at 10.25 inches while the touchscreen stands in at 10.7 inches. This does use the I-Drive 9 operating system that is unique to both the X1 and X2 and are Google OS systems. We also have the performance bucket seats with the “M///“ logo illumination.

Very thorough review of all the details. I’m about to end my leasing cycle for my X5 hybrid and need something smaller and am definitely eyeing this one.

Very well executed review. Many thanks. We’re empty nesters now and considering downsizing from our 2013 X35i Msport. This X1M35 looks like it’ll be a good fit for the sportiness we want in a small suv but with better gas mileage and smaller footprint.

Thank you for the comment! The X1 has grown a lot in size and is almost the same size as your 2013 X3. I think it would be a great choice if you want something that’s the same size but efficient. Plus the next gen X3 is getting bigger and more expensive.

@@soflojoshautoreview interesting data. I’ll drop these dims into a spreadsheet for comparo. I bought the X3 as it was the same dims as the E53 OG X5. I had a 3.0 X5 in a manual with the M54 engine. Loved that truck. But maintenance killed it over time. Lots of niggles and issues as she aged. The F25 X3 has been mostly flawless. Very easy ownership experience and a fun car to drive (suv). I’ll have to check this new one at my a dealership.

So just looked over the 24’ X1 and 2013 X3 size and the length of the X1 comes in at 177 inches or 449.58 centimetres while the your X3 comes in at 183 inches in length or 464.82 centimetres. Not as close but funny enough the width and height are the exact same.

I was following one yesterday and the rear design is weird, and the fit and finish of the body panels was atrocious. BMW seems to be losing the plot.

I have noticed every now and then I see an X1 with a large panel gap but I didn’t notice it on this example. The X1 is also built in Germany compared to the X3-XM models that are built in the US.
