My mother was single with 5 kids and only a graphic design degree and no computer to do it with. (Around 1999 I wanna say) a brand new clear teal-ish iMac was delivered to our door, obviously sent by a friend or neighbor who knew there was a need. To this day our family has no idea who sent it, and although we were still incredibly poor, we were able to survive. Those old clear iMacs, odd as they looked, hold a special place in my heart.

I have a small creative agency and we got 16gb 8 - 8 and we made sure all software was m1 compatible. We recently ditched Adobe finallyz and went with Affinity and FCP. I am blown away by the performance. We even have m1 mba (8-7 with 16gb) we use when traveling and so far it works really well. My hope for this is at this price point it will work for most creatives. I get people want more gpu and some need it but for a fast majority of not only casual but creatives I sincerely think this can work? Again, I get some people will ned more. We shot a commercial and editing on our m1 imac was super sweet. One thing I noticed to which this could be a personal thing but the 24” screen with smaller bezels feels like more than enough room. It really does. I know some people like bigger or multiple screens. I really enjoy the size and again this is personal but I get overwhelmed by multiple screens or too big.
@GunzyHD

This is such a rad comment. It shows that the M1 really is strong enough to run creative companies off of. Plus I’m with you on Adobe. Affinity has everything I’ve ever needed, and no longer need to spend a ridiculous amount to use it monthly. FCP is also incredibly nice, plus if you needed something more like Premiere, you have DaVinci Resolve. I use an M1 iPad Pro for creative stuff and it runs like a dream

@@dy7296 You're just making a mistake, the M1 is a toy compared to a powerful PC for editing. Take into account video editing is very much GPU-bound. When are you guys going to test an actual real world project with transitions, effects, speed ramping, etc? Every video you show the same few test clips playing on loop. This makes no sense to an actual video editor as no real world project would be structured in such a simple way. True testing is more than just playback speed of the same clip over and over again or exporting of that same clip looped for 5 minutes.

@DynamicPhil84
@DynamicPhil84 2 жыл бұрын
@@xanderwolf1715 I would do a general search for the editing software and camera model/codecs that you are interested in working with. There are tons of videos out there of real professional video editors who don't only make content for youtube sharing information, reviews, etc. For instance, I'm interested in seeing people's experience editing 8K Canon Raw Light footage in Adobe Premiere Pro, so that's what I searched for. Sometimes I'll want to see comparisons between editing a specific type of footage or codec in Premiere vs. Resolve. Just be specific in your search terms and you'll find lots of info. As a general rule of thumb, to edit 4K footage and above, you will want a computer that is 8+ CPU cores if using Premiere, or a decent Nvidia or AMD GPU if using Resolve. That's on the PC side. On the Mac side, the M1 Max or M1 Ultra processors can handle pretty much anything you throw at them if you use Resolve. Premiere can't handle many codecs compared to Resolve because it relys more heavily on the CPU, where as Resolve leans on the GPU, which will always be faster. Don't bother with the M1 iMac if you want to get serious about video editing. It's a weak machine. Any of the M1 processors below the Max and Ultra are useless for serious editing work in 4K and above.

Those recording in ProRes or BRAW do not store files internally. We typically record these files straight to an external SSD and transfer them to another external SSD on the computer. Only proxies or samples are stored internally.

@@joaocorreiamedia Not true, RAM upgrade, CORE upgrade, with more ports. Sure they are going to come out with with a 27" M1 iMac, but those will be for the guys who's iMac Pros are already obsolete and will be for the guys who will spend $6K for it. We've already seen that smaller ad agencies are already doing serious video work on the 24." I'm in the middle of setting up my new M1 iMac this morning and I paid for the most expensive one they sell, it came out to $3000, and this thing will last me at least 6 years. I'm keeping my late 2015 27" in service and updated it to Catalina finally, because its still a powerhouse that I do all my daily computing on. They will sit pretty much side by side an the 24" will mostly be a dedicated FCPX machine. Possible I may eventually end up doing everything on the 24" in the end, but I have to get used to figuring out the limited ports on the back and the new SSD's etc. etc. This is a big jump for me financially and catching up eventually to Big Sur. But that OS has to prove itself for at least a year before I jump into that.

Hi Max, your video really helps. Could you please share what camera, lens, lights, video editing software( with export quality, bit rate) you have used to make this video? your response really helps me.

How is this with After Effects? I do a lot of motion graphics and animation in After Effects along with work in Premiere Pro and Photoshop, so I'm really interested in how Adobe performs on this.

Wait for the next one. Don’t get the 256gb storage, that would be the biggest mistake in getting iMac M1.

When is the 34 inch coming out? I am in desperate need of a new editor. I just destroyed my PC today. I was looking to order the 1699 one with 16 gig 512 gig drive FCP installed and the extended keyboard, Also Yello, because it looks like gold!

What about 4k with sony A7S3 all settings at there limits on the camera and at 60 fps? Do you have any results? Add some resolve effects like zoom or do fusion and it's usless. Don't waste your money..Have to see what the next ones are like...I expect they will have issues somewhere as Apple like to keep their customers coming back for more slow progress. M1 not as good as we've been led to believe...

The ARRI scientists say anything over 4K is not worth it, but if you want to convert later to UHD you can.

Do you recommend selling my iMac Pro 28 core and buying the new M1? I’ve been noticing my current 2017 iMac which was fully upgraded 15k cost acting slow, even with h265 1080p footage. Which M1 chip computer do you recommend for 4K editing? Thanks!

Is that the GPU handling the decoding or is that the T2 portion of the M1? I remember reading that the Intel Macs offloaded the codec work onto the T2 chip. I would have figured that that same functionality would be kept with the M1 version.

Not Max, and not on an iMac, but given you’ve got no reply… I have been using LumaFusion to edit with an M1 iPad Pro 😄 I’ve maxed out the timelines and it still works! It starts to struggle if I’ve got multiple 4K clips stacked on top of each other, but a couple 4K clips plus overlays and SFX, LumaFusion handles works fine. The thing I miss the most from Premiere (or Final Cut), is the sheer amount of templates and comps and whatnot there are that you can just bring in. So, I expect LumaFusion itself will work great on the iMac: if you’re fine with its workflow, you’ll be fine!
