i appreciate how 4kids actually explained Aisha's powers. For the fans that had access to the european books that introduce her powers it's nothing new, but the only thing Aisha says about her powers in season 2 is in episode 3 stating that is a magic glue. But in the 4kids dub, she explains that she controls and morphs the water molecules into anything she wills, which is really smart. I gave 4kids points for explaining some things that the original script left for us to deduct.

The 4Kids voices were always my favorite voices for the characters, mostly because I always found the girls’ voices in the RAI and Nick dubs to blend together too much, and they never really stood out to me. I could close my eyes while listening to the Nick dub and genuinely have no clue which of the girls was talking at that moment. But with 4Kids, I know who’s talking and that’s what I love about it!

I love how The 4Kids knew that Darkar was so ridiculously evil. The commercial that made fun of him is AMAZING.

My favourite thing from the 4kids is when Stella solves the colour puzzle test because colours were clashing so she organized them

Thank youuu, this was my childhood! I loved Stella's little 'dawhling', Flora's soft spoken 'sweety', and Bloom's sassiness/sarcasm. Lisa is a legend. I couldn't tell she did both Icy and Musa as a kid lol. Techna reminded me of Luna in the Vic dub of Sailor Moon. Loved Layla/Aisha, nuff said, it felt like you were listening to a friend speak to you on tv.

I like how both Bloom & Musa called the Trix a witch following a term like “Oh, that witch!” “Back off, witch!” or “You don’t want to get into it with me, witch!” Avoiding to use the word BITCH and even the Trix said Wiatch at one point or remake one of them were “witching” at the moment.

The voices were unique and had personality (British Techna, soft Flora, deep-voiced Trix, etc.), so it's my favorite. Plus we got Dan Green and Sean Schemmel as Sky and Valtor! Give us another dub with this cast!

27:25 In the comics it’s actually explained that winx comes from the word “wings” because they have wings like butterflies and they write it with an x because the x resembles a butterfly. I think it’s a good explanation and I prefer it to the 4kids one. It’s just makes sense that a group of teens would come up with something like that and it also makes the name more unique to the group

I feel like 4kids is very underappreciated and looked down on. It has cringey moments but the voice acting and music is a 10/10 for me. P.S. thank you for the iconic electric booty kick clip. Legendary

4kids is what introduced me to winx and the dialogue may be cheesy but it gave it more sass, like when the trix say “it’s witch up time” If 4kids hadn’t changed certain things and completely followed the original, I think it would have been the best dub.

4Kids is the bext Winx Club by absolute default for one major, major reason: it stood out. The other dubs feel very...samey. The voices for the characters here are actually recognizeable and distinct while the other dubs, honestly, feel very basic and the fairies kinda sound samey. 4Kids actually made the fairies sound much better. I prefer this Stella compared with the other dubs, cause I'm used to Stella actually being a flair of the dramatic that the Cinelume and Nick dubs lack.

I’ll say it right off the bat: the 4Kids dub was a fever dream that changed what Winx Club is about. But I love it and it had the most personality. I watch it as an abridged series of sorts😭

I’ll never get over Riven having the voices of two ninja turtles from the same goddamn show. Like, when Sam got casted, he must have told Micheal about it because it’s hilarious.

I know I’m just echoing a lot of people here but I’ll say it again: The 4Kids dubs had the BEST voices! They not only stood out from each other but also helped showcase the personality of the characters extraordinarily well!

I think flora’s voice is much more distinctive in the 4Kids version, the issue I have with other dubs is almost all the voices are indistinguishable from eachother

I grew up with 4kuds. And I actually prefer it more than the cinelume. I feel like it has more Comedic moments, its memeable, the story flows better, the actors sound like they're having fun, and I don't mind the cheesiness. I find the cheesy dialogues charming.

As someone who grew up with the Cinelume dub one of my favourite things about watching the 4Kids dub was being able to notice the changes they made and "correcting" them in my head. It honestly made the viewing experience so fun cause I was basically watching the original story with the chaos of the 4Kids version 💀

One thing that makes the 4Kids dub better then the Nick dub to me is that they didn't skip the season 2 episode about Musia's mother.🐻🧸

I'll never understand why, even though 4kids established that Winx was already an existing word, they didn't keep the "Magic Winx!" that the girls say every time they transform. It would have fit like a glove.

Honestly, I've tried watching other dubs, but I just can't get past the voices. They nailed the dub cast with the 4kids dub, and I just feel as if no other voices worked with them. While i like the accuracy of cinelume, the dub was... difficult to get through, to be honest.

@Unicorn of War The 4Kids dub wasn't the first created English dub. The Cinélume dub was made first. I can confirm, because I reached out to several people from both Cinélume and 4Kids that used to work on these dubs. Cinélume and Rainbow met at the MipTV festival in either 2002 or 2003. Rainbow decided to order a faithful English dub from them. (It wasn't a Singaporean TV network.) Ironically, and this probably explains the too direct translation you mentioned, Cinélume's dub adapter didn't master Italian that well, so instead she was sent a kinda rough direct translation of the script from Rainbow internally. Her job then was to mostly fix grammar mistakes and alter the script line by line to make it fit the lip synchronisation of the video footage. After dubbing was done, Rainbow had trouble finding a distributor in the States. The only distributor they could find, 4Kids, wanted to change and redub the series, basically to "Americanise" it, which was very common at the time (look at other 4Kids shows, and Sailor Moon). The Cinélume dub was kinda "wasted" now, but fortunately it would still come to Singapore at some point, as well as the rest of Europe. The Dutch dub was one of the first Cinélume-based dubs to air in the Netherlands in 2004. So that's another timeline related reason why Cinélume's dub couldn't have started production after 4Kids' one was finished. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find an answer to the Aisha/Layla thing. According to Cinélume, this name change wasn't their initiative but a request from their contact person from Rainbow. Unfortunately this all happened almost two decades ago and I haven't been able to find someone at Rainbow who could clarify this for me. But it was definitely not a change made by 4Kids. 4Kids recieved the Cinélume dub from Rbw so they knew no better than that her name was Layla. I hope you happen to read this. I really love your content! And maybe this info will inspire you to make another video on the Cinélume dub sometime. ☺️

I grew up on the 4kids version. I’m in my 20’s. I still think it’s good.

In my opinion, I love the 4Kids voice acting the most. The other versions feel like the members aren’t distinct enough. Bloom’s full of energy, Stella’s a valley girl, Musa’s rowdy and rambunctious, Flora is soft spoken, Aisha is fiery and passionate, and Techna is British (because of course the smart girl is lol)

YES FINALLY 4KIDS APPRECIATION, BLESS! Excitement aside though, I want to thank you so much for making these Winx Club videos. Whenever a new video comes out I get reminded of how much I enjoyed certain parts of my childhood, while I can't say my early years were great, this was one of the highlights.

I just love the 4Kids dub to the point where the other dubs come as a shock to me. Also so many moments from the 4Kids dub is iconic. I mean, Icy calling Darcy a "Wi-atch" Flora's "That was my sister" line Every roast Bloom says.

I love the Cinelume Dub for the faithfulness, but the 4kids Dub is iconic. I love Musa’s voice performance.

I didn't mind their censorship personally. When things are aimed for kids, it requires the creators to think more creatively around those restrictions. How can they convey the same message without using the same words or movements? Especially in early seasons with new characters, have them explain themselves as if the audience are a group of 10 year old children. Old enough to understand subtly, but still needs their hands held somewhat One of the better things is that in 4kids during the Miss Magix competition (beauty pageant) and the Trix were messing with all the competitors, there was one scene with a black woman. In the original, she was crying about her messed up hair and that had some negative racial connotations. In 4kids, she was crying about her squeaky mouse-like voice and they cut the scene where Bloom touched her hair. Even the random extra tried to comfort her by saying "you still had your looks"

Without 4kids I wouldn’t have known Winx club existed so that dubbed version will always be my favorite one, plus the music was so iconic. The music part when flora left behind a love letter for Helia in season 2 and when sky and bloom found Tecna in season 3 is so good (just to give examples)

Idk why, but when I think of how Galatea is the Princess of Melody/Harmonic Nebula, and in 4kids, Musa was also the Princess, but her dad gave up the crown for his wife and music. So I like to think Galatea is her cousin in the 4kids dub. And with that idea, 4/6 Winx got their Enchantix by protecting/saving a family member ^^

Despite some of the cheap “American Teenager” phrases - especially in season 1 - the dub is pretty good. All the voice actors match so well their personages. Especially Bloom, Icy, Faragonda and Flora. Furthermore, the level of sass of Darkar is unbelievable! 😂💖🫶🏻 But iconic! The names of some of the spells are pretty solid as well. But how they changed Domino into Sparks, Andros to Tides, Linphea to The Fifth Moon of Marigold and the other planets is wild! Coming from an era of mass changes when dubbing, Winx is surprisingly restrained in that regard. I will forever hold the voice actors to the highest regards. They knocked it out of the park. As for the dialogue? Yesterday’s cringe is today’s memes!

Since i’m french i’ve never grew up with these dubs but 4kids lines are too iconic.

I never realized Daphne wasnt Blooms sister in the 4kids dub! (Probably because I didnt know what "heir to the throne" meant.) Not sure how I came to the conclusion that she was her sister then if I didnt watch anything but 4kids back then, but I always thought the canon story across all versions was about Daphne, her sister, saving bloom and the dragon flame by passing it to her little sister before sending her to earth, then dying to the witches.

You're dislike of Tecna's accent is so funny to me because when I grew up watching the 4kids dub I didn't even realise she had a British accent until you pointed it out in your first 4kids video. Growing up in Australia, a lot of the Australian kids' TV channels were a mix of Australian, British and Canadian TV shows so characters having a British accent wasn't really outside the norm or considered for specific character tropes (like I've never had the experience of the nerd/smart character having a British accent attributed to make it obvious that they're smart)

I actually got to meet Lisa Ortiz at a con the other week and she is a legend, she loved playing her roles in Winx Club and it really shows!

One thing i really like about the dutch dub (which i have the privilege of comprehending on account of Being Dutch) is that tecna is given a slightly deep-ish voice, and musa has a bit of a raspy voice and they’re SO fitting for the characters without feeling cartoonishly exaggerated. I will not lie. The Dutch version of sky without moon and stars (Geen maan en geen sterren meer) is easily my favorite precisely because they don’t soften up the voice.

This dub is pretty much how I remember this show as a child. Maybe i'll give it a watch one day for nostalgia reasons. As a kid, I always loved Musa's and Tecna's powers of music and technology respectively, and made me be a fan of the idea of less conventional magic powers aside from natural elements. Gimme more weird concepts to turn into magic, I love that.

The 4Kids dub was my introduction to the franchise, so I do have a major soft spot for it. I still remember watching new episodes on Miguzi and then later on 4KidsTV back in the day. The voice cast is all around really solid. Having good voice actors but bad dialogue and/or direction was pretty common for most of 4Kids' dubs. Bloom had such a great voice and I wish that her voice actress got more attention. Lisa Ortiz does a great job with multiple roles. As a huge Yu-Gi-Oh! fan, hearing Dan Green voice a prince always made me happy and I think part of the reason why I continued to watch the dub in the first place. Some of the changes are interesting, but then there are the weird and unnecessary ones like the name changes, particularly for Aishia. It is a shame that 4Kids didn't get to dub season four and the first movie. From what I recall, they were having financial problems around the time season three ended and it would only get worse for them for a few reasons, but it would have been nice to see them get another season. While it would still be an incomplete dub, it would have given the dub a bit more of a sendoff than it ultimately got.

I never knew winx had so many different dubs in English until I watched your videos. Very interesting! As a German, the German dub is my fav, if you find the time you should check it out, it's so so so worth it.

If there's two things 4kids is gonna do in its dub, it's make the main cast fr act like teenage best friends and add an iconic soundtrack. Despite all the issues 4kids have with americanization, plot changes and censorship (the latter was often out of their control), to this day those two things make or break a good cartoon for me

Biggest victory of the 4Kids dub: "Is it a bird? No! Is it a plane? No! It's Lord Darker"!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 It's a good kind of laugh, not a cringe one.

In my opinion, the 4kids dub is definitely worth watching since it's so iconic and chaotic. It was the version that most of us grew up on and is the dub that i'm most familiar with and what i'm used to, and that's why I REFUSE to hear anything else if it's not Techna's british accent, Bloom's hotheaded comebacks and Icy's evil yet sassy voice......it's just so memorable! Also just be prepared to cringe from time to time 😂😂😂😂 this dub also made me enjoy Seasons 1-3 as well!

According to Winx Club Wikia, Iginio Straffi had previously mentioned in an interview in 2008 that he heavily disliked 4Kids' censored re-edits of the show, which were not approved by himself or any other Rainbow crew members. He was quoted saying, "I think [4Kids] removes something essential"

In some Latin-based languages, “V” is pronounced like a “B”. So, 4Kids may have thought that was the case with Valtor’s name and that it was supposed to be pronounced as “Baltor”? Just my own personal theory lol

The 4kids dub was a mix bag for me, it's both nostalgic and disappointing in some ways like a love-hate type of thing. I love the voices (minus Tecna) as they did add a lot of energy and charm to their roles. While Cinelume is more faithful to the original script it's still had monotone voices that sound like they were just reading off a script rather than trying to put emotions. I'm not a big fan of the plot changes, that was completely unnecessary. The music on the other hand was actually pretty catchy, even though I still enjoy the original ost. I'm glad that I got to experience the 4kids version cause if it wasn't for that I wouldn't be able to look up the original version on KZfaq. Edit: After some thinking I realized some of the plot changes weren't that bad and some are actually more preferable than the original. Like the girls actually facing consequences for what they did in Red Fountain, and the girls seeing a movie before heading to bed, adding more slice of life elements rather than a simple action adventure series. I personally like that as we get the impression of the girls living their daily lives when they're not fighting evil and whatnot. And changing the racist joke to a voice dilemma was the best change cause I don't know why that girl was bullied for her afro, she looked stylish if you ask me.

i am absolutely in LOVE with the witches voices in 4kids, like they're all so perfect, the music for this version also takes the cake like it's all sooo good and does a great job at setting the scene, (hello valtors theme)

It seemed to me that he was awakened by a wave of negative energy that Trix released by summoning the army of darkness on those strange dark purple creatures consisting of small insects. And even now I find this version very logical. After all, it explains why he saved Trix from the monastery and made his allies

I've thought of a plot change that wasn't discussed in the episode, honestly a considerably minor one, but one that I really liked. it's in season 2 and it's involving timmy and tecna's relationship. There's a scene where, in the 4kids dub, tecna goes to get help whilst timmy and the other specialists are immobilised via the trix. that's it, that's all it is. in the original, apparently timmy refuses to shoot the trix and tecna, offended at his lack of courage, storms off. that felt massively out of left field and I don't even know why. perhaps it's because I had no idea, but I loved that the 4kids dub treated timmy and tecna as a sort of unintentional slow burn. it never felt to me like timmy should have needed to prove himself to her - they both were just the kind of people who required time to settle into a stable relationship with each other. whilst the trix were always a threat and escaping with red fountain's codex is a huge deal, but it was nobody's fault that they got away with it in the 4kids dub and sure, it might be bias talking but it really was a group effort in that episode and blaming it on one guy, especially considering tecna has previously been known to value strategy clearly, would know better. who knows, maybe I'm wrong but I wanted to put it out there. also, as a brit, as much as I get the whole stereotyping thing and respect that, I felt really seen by tecna as a kid, because a lot of the stuff being shown on kid's tv was generally very american, other than specifically british produced shows that I liked less for various reasons. it felt nice to hear someone who had an accent like mine when I was young. now it's just nostalgic and I love laughing at the way her exasperation reminds me of the adults from where I grew up. wanted to throw this in too even though it is definitely an opinion thing

The 4Kids/Konami Cross Media NY version gives us childhood memories. Many New York Actors... Flora sounds a lot like Fluttershy Tecna sounds a lot like Mrs. Frizzle Layla sounds a lot like Moira from the Handmaid's tale and Aceh.

I remember the rumours that Layla was only a nickname, and that her real name was Aisha, which that blew my mind. When I watched the Nickelodeon dub, I was wondering why she suddenly went by her real name instead of her nickname all of a sudden lol

I prefer the 4kids Voice actors more than the others…..? It just suited their personality like how hot headed bloom was in the first “totally consided, totally cocky and waste of good oxygen.” And “I still don’t see why musa has a crush on you”

Fun Fact: Riven’s 4Kids va is the same va for Leo from the 2003 TMNT cartoon. (he’s also the va of Dean Venture in The Venture Bros., Taki Tachibana in Your Name, Kenji Koiso in Summer Wars, Netherlands in Hetalia, Moritaka Mashiro in the few eps of Bakuman that got dubbed and the villain Dagger in Black Butler: Book Of Circus among many other anime roles) And yes I cracked up upon finding out because I wasn’t expecting bad boy Riven to become super serious and responsible ninja leader Leo. Also this role (along with him as Taki in Your Name) really shows how good he is as a va as you can’t tell it’s the same guy. He also does a great job at expressing the emotions Leo has whenever he struggles with something mentally. Though Leo is my least favorite of the turtles (as the other three have way more to their personalities especially Mikey and Raph) I do feel that Michael is the one va of him that was able to capture his personality as a character (what little of it there is). As for the 4Kids cast, I like all of them. I grew up on the DiC dub of Sailor Moon and I always felt Ami’s va was great for her (tbh she’s like those chars you said that get the perfect va in each dub as I’ve never had any problems with any of her Eng vas) so I’m partial to the British like genius voice and maybe kind of bias to Techna’s as a result. Though yes Lisa is forever Musa as she’s why the char is my fav of the Winx Girls.

The 4kids dub is so iconic. Its voice acting and soundtrack are true classics, and my favorite out of the Winx dubs. If it didn't cut some of the darker scenes (the assassins after Sky, Hallowwinx, and Riven's internal struggle at Cloud tower) I'd consider it the undisputed best one. Imo the reason it gets so much shit is because it's by, you know, 4kids.

I always assumed that Aisha getting changed to Layla had to do with making her name sound more like the majority of the Winx. It's kinda a trope for the "main" character to be the only one with a different sounding name. Also syllable count: A-i-sha vs Lay-la Ste-lla Mu-sa Tech-na Flo-ra Blo-om

Also with the music, I really like the background music and themes. For example, the music that accompanies the specialists riding on their hover bikes through the woods just has such a cool vibe. I can't really explain it.

I really love 4kids dub for many different reasons but especially for the fact that this dub explained a lot of things plot wise,minimalizing and actually erasing all plot holes that are present in the original. In the original/cinelume dub,many things are not explained and just left for us to figure it out on our own

Bloom’s, Flora’s, and the Trix’s voices in the 4kids version were my favorite.😊 Also, the show’s intro song for the 4kids version. It was so good. I also had the video game for the Nintendo DS. I loved it so much.😭 When I rewatched the series with the other voices it made me miss their 4kids ones. That was the version I grew up with and now I can’t find many episodes online. 😢

4kids was my Saturday morning go to. The music was always so good. The first time I watched a different dub for WINX I found myself so confused. And some of the other subs voices were super grating.

We thankfully only had one dub in The Netherlands and it was faithful to the original Italian dub. Aisha was called Layla for us too, though. But watching the 4Kids dub for the first time was WILD. I was laughing my ass off. E.g. "Lacrosse team, go!" during the great battle at the end of season one ENDED me. That shit had me laughing so hard I had to pause the episode.

Aisha was the name of one of the Prophet Muhammad's wives. Since Winx was everywhere and her arc involves arranged marriage, I imagine it was changed to Layla to avoid offense and 4kids followed suit? Edit: additionally, the Nick dub lifted quite a bit from the 4kids dub over the Cinelume dub. It's worth paying attention to on rewatches. It's almost like they wanted to fuse what they felt were the best of both worlds in remaking the canon of the show going forward Silent Hill analysis when tho

I'm so glad I grew up with the Brazilian Portuguese Dub, who is so faithful to the Italian version. And it kept the cast for almost 20 years intact, sadly the 2 voice actresses passed away- Tecna's and Stella's, both in 2021 and both too early. But we have to consider that you have to change certain things to fix, localization is always important. If anyone wants to check the Brazilian version, you can on Netflix and here on youtube, it's so good, and the voices fit so well. And it's not my nostalgia speaking, it's one of the best dubs for this show. I get it that the 4kids dub has this wild version going on, but I do believe people are missing out on how much of a delight other country's dubs can be too. Aisha in ours is Layla, and she will continue to be Layla to me. Plus where else you are going to get the Brazilian Voice for Kim Possible dubbing Icy, and Barbie's official voice actress for 15 years dubbing Stormy?
