The Maserati sounded amazing, and it certainly adds to the whole experience......great engine. The extra skirts on this Maserati may divide opinion, but I think they really gave it a sporty look. The front and rear definitely are better for it.
@Tom--Ace5 жыл бұрын
I think the Gransport side skirts and general styling improvements were very very well done and really transformed in a subtle way the look of the 4200 - having shopped around for both and settled on a Gransport, I think it easily bests the 4200 in styling (particularly the interior and wheels). In fact the interior, steering wheel and carbon fibre use and exterior facelift on the Gransport is the reason I decided on one over the cheaper 4200.

I like both, I like the reliability and Teutonic charm of the 911. But I also enjoy a hand built car that decides to work when it wants to, it's like it has its own human personality. Make sure you have a trickle charger on that Maserati though or one day you start it and your instrument cluster will look like a Christmas tree.

It shows the lack of understanding of Maserati philosophy and the nature of F1. Its also what Ferrari lacked to give Maserati in the fear of competing with their own cars . You can remap the TCU and get the amazing experience . It’s the Ferrari greed more than anything . I had a 997 and it was boring as

Hi there had both and kinda agree with you but kinda don't the maz needs some tweeks but once done transforms the car and makes it come alive. I sold the porcshe. get the Fomula Dynamics dbw module it changes the software in to F458 territory. and means you can drive out of sport mode with quicker changes. I also recommend springs and brake upgrades. you then have a fantastic GT car!!!

I do enjoy a 997.2 4S (manual of cause) as a daily and an older Maser (Indy 4700 America) if i want that V8 sound. The GranSport has been a very important car for Maserati, the Ferrari genes do not hurt too. This it is a special car to own and having flaws is part of the deal. The 997.1 with the Tiptronic, well - i would go for a 997.2 with PDK or manual instead :-). This being said, the 997.1 is still fast enough in most cases anyways. Both generate smiles per gallon in their own way.

There are only two occasions I put my 997.2 PASM in Sport mode. One is going over aggressive speed bumps because it stops the exhaust crashing down on the speed bump, the other is at Silverstone. Generally, other roads and circuits are too bumpy!

Yep, lovely place to be indeed and that engine is epic!! 997 is the better car objectively but they are so different.. depends on what you're looking for really! thanks for watching Roger!
@Tom--Ace5 жыл бұрын
To be honest with you, I picked a Gransport over a Porche because at the end of the day, the interior, engine and styling just made them much nicer places to be than the Porsches I tried. Not to mention, Porsche interiors are cramped and do not age well. But even the Boxsters I tried were clearly superior in terms of flat handling and body roll to the Gransport - and I think this is largely what affects the opinion in this video. I am replacing the standard springs with Formula Dynamics Sport Springs and installing a Formula Dynamics Drive By Wire unit for this reason and I reckon with these changes, the dynamic difference between the Porsche and Gransport will be largely closed. So i'd say it also depends on what improvements you intend to make to the vehicle! If you buy a stock Gransport, be aware that there are some 'must have' improvements without which it is a bit of a compromised 'luxury' cruiser compared to a sports car like the Porsche.
@Nickgt-rl8ls6 жыл бұрын
To answer Minoltalphafans comment.... Porsches are common and you don't give them a second look these days, where a Maserati is just awesome!!! Yes, the porsche is probably a better every day car (its german), but the maserati (as everything italian ;-) ) is inspirational and sounds like nothing else!! Theres not many cars out there that sound as good as a V8 Maser, but like everything in life... its what you like..if every car in the world was 'german' life would be boring.... :-)
@Tom--Ace5 жыл бұрын
To be honest the Masser in real life is a bit quiet and needs a muffler edit. But once that's done, epic! I would say the sound of the Granturismo was done better than the Gransport, which was overmuffled. Either way, a Porsche certainly sounds worse either way. The thing for me with Porsches is the interior is just SO MUCH WORSE than the Gransport (although not necessarily the Granturismo, which imho went a long way backwards in terms of interior compared to the Gransport). Particularly the fully specced LE Gransports are just an amazing place to sit, with leather all round and beautiful sumptuous interiors.
@TheAquarpio4 жыл бұрын
it is very interesting to see the resale value to both cars , they were about the same price when new but 997 C2s holds the value much better than GranSport(in Australia , a GranSport is around $40k AUD vs $70k AUD
@Number274 жыл бұрын
Hi! Here that was true .. but now 997s have continued to drop whereas the GranSport is worth around £5k more than the equivalent 997...
@f1knight6 жыл бұрын
hahaha I could've told you the tip wasn't a poo poo as most think, I agree that was a good comparison. I've been out on a few Porsche drives around the windy's and more than once I've been asked if my P996 was a manual. With time once you get used to the lag between changes you can begin to extract the best out of the engine and enjoy the drive. What I don't like is that during a spirited drive sometimes it's easy to bump the tip button up or down when turning the wheel and either you lose revs and power or suddenly find yourself red lining. That was a good honest review, I do like the Maserati interior and sounds shame it doesn't drive as well as it should. How many miles have you put on it so far, wondering when that clutch replacement is due?
@Number276 жыл бұрын
Only put about 1K miles on it.. clutch replaced not long ago so totally fine.. 33% wear rate at this point! Do like it.. just needs softer suspension and slightly slower steering with more feel!
@robertcrooks16 жыл бұрын
I can only assume the clutch isn’t set up terribly well and the suspension needs some work on your Gransport. I’ve owned both and a well set up Gransport changes gear much quicker and smoother than a tiptronic 997 and rides and steers much better too. I have a 14k miles Gransport now and it drives unbelieveably well for a 10 year old car - even better to drive than my F430 - but they do need an expert to set them up right.
@Tom--Ace5 жыл бұрын
It actually needs the opposite. It needs stiffer springs! The problem is that the springs on the Gransport are far too soft, and this actually WORSENS its ability to handle terrain - ie, its a 'crashier' suspension experience. This is particularly noticeable going over speed bumps - go slow and it wont touch, go just a little bit faster and the springs can't handle it and the car will scrape. The springs were a terrible choice on the car but visit Formula Dynamics and there are some much needed corrections available.
@Foxtechconsultants Жыл бұрын
There really isn't a comparison here. The Porsche is nice and all, but that Gransport is something special. I'd take it in a heartbeat any day over the 911. Unless it was a 911 turbo... Beside "slow shifts"can be addressed with a simple tune for sub-$1k.
@sparty9715 жыл бұрын
You'd fall asleep in that Porche , How dull . Driving a Gransport is an event . It has a sense of occasion . You have to hang on to it , but is so much more of a thrill .
@joelryan68646 жыл бұрын
997.2 is my favorite 911.
@bogdanbosoi14836 жыл бұрын
As with the Alfa's...The little quirks make them special as the Porsche's nowadays are almost perfect but become very boring very shortly. The automated single clutch is strange in normal driving but when you hammer it is unbeatable feeling-wise, just imagine a dual clutch in a Lambo Aventador...of course it will be somewhat quicker but that feeling when the clutch grabs on every upper gearchange....you cannot do that in a pdk, sorry. Same with the Alfa's Selespeed, a marvelous box if you understand how it works!
@Tom--Ace5 жыл бұрын
Neither comes anywhere near a manual nonetheless, imho (having previously owned an Alfa 916 GTV 3.0 V6, and now owning a Gransport). A manual gearbox like the Alfa's, let alone an amazing one like the one I tried on a 1987 Lotus Excel SE (literally like a bolt rifle) or a gated shifter, is just far and away the best shifting experience - albeit at the cost of an unforgiving nature and being easy to burn out in hard driving. The automated single clutch will do perfect shifts and launches day in, day out, with probably less wear than an average driver would put on a comparable manual clutch. That's the cost of analog driving I suppose - better feel, but more room for error.
@mrbentley8556 жыл бұрын
The Maserati was at least equal in a straight line, I can vouch for that as I was following in the 911 at the end of the shoot. It wasn’t scientific, but I am confident there is not much in it and wouldn’t surprise me either way. In the twisters I think in the right hands the 911 would do better......
@Number276 жыл бұрын
Yes, there seemed be nothing in it.. I guess that the extra 280kgs the Maser carries around negate the power and 6 speed box advantage it would otherwise have.

They are very similar... www.zeperfs.com/en/duel1243-2216.htm But the extra weight makes Maser a little slower on track. But for everyday use, the special halo of the Maser definitely is a win win bet, that´s why i chose it for me and is the best car I´ve owned (by far).
@Number276 жыл бұрын
Samuel de Uña thanks for watching.. and in terms of ‘special’ feel the Maser definitely has the 997 licked!!
@hipertrofio6 жыл бұрын
When i come to a curved road it´s like driving a Hummer with a reaction turbine, i agree with you in that, but i don´t hink the gearbox is slow. Using it in normal mode yes, its rubbish, the gearbox try to imitate a torque converter and that definitely crashes the clutch, but in sport mode that is less noticeable. The fastests gear changes, according to the owners guide, is fullthrottle and, i dont remember perfectly, above 5000 rpm. In that circumstance is like a shot and really makes the difference. I had a M3 SMGII and that gearbox was, for me, much worse and slow. The Maserati you owned had an aftermarket exhaust?

Interesting and well done for trying but not impressed. Quote-"I think this still has a torque converter" well done. What else would it have, being a conventional automatic gearbox? The sports suspension (PASM) isn't really appropriate for use down bumpy country lanes. The Maserati weighs in at around 400 kg more than the 997 with only 25hp more so I doubt it's quicker. I could go on. I have driven both cars.
@Number276 жыл бұрын
Gazza912 Quote: “The Maserati weighs 400kg more and only has 25bhp extra”... errrm NO. The Maser weighs 270kg more, has 45hp more and a six speed box as opposed to the Torque converter 5 speed of the Porsche, so it could well be quicker. If you’re going to correct someone at least try and get your facts right, but interesting and well done for trying.

@Tom--Ace5 жыл бұрын
Mike being an owner of one and having investigated maintenance costs for both I'm not sure that a 911 is any better a proposition out of warranty! They are both 3x or so more expensive than an ordinary car on costs (sometimes more), but I wouldn't say its crazy high. Most sports cars have high running costs. If you think a Porsche will be cheap to maintain, you're in for a rude surprise.. For that, consider more ordinary performance cars.
