Funny what you said there about China products being cheaper quality. I work for a major US auto manufacturer, when we build vehicles for the China market, China demands nothing but the HIGHEST quality from us. Everything has to be nothing short of meticulous quality, FAR higher than what the American market receives. The quality demands for China are so great that we had to create a separate area in our plant just for them, the vehicles that enter this area are gone over 3-4 times by different eyes for the smallest of quality concerns (and I mean SMALL).....Yet Americans willingly except pure JUNK from them with open arms!, go figure.

This is what it boils down to quality control. A lot of company's go to China to manufacture and then have no quality controls at their facility in China or off side in China, and when they get the product back they push it on to the market
@seairis616

You get what you pay for. You tell Chinese manufacturers you want a product for as little as money as possible, they will deliver and it will be made with inferior materials and workmanship with as little steps as possible. You tell the same Chinese manufacturer that you want a product made to excellent quality and standards, they will be sure to do so but charge a higher price. The problem really comes down to large corporations focused on the largest profit margin as possible and rely upon the brands reputation which the founders of the company worked very hard to build by providing quality products at a reasonable price. Once the founders pass away, the young CEOs take over and ruin everything. This is just my honest opinion but I base that off of 25 years in manufacturing and having a lot of items handed down to me from my grand parents that still work to this day.

Well you also have to consider in the chinese market American Cars are perceived as more luxury cars. the base mustang v8 costs roughly 220% more in china than it does here in America ($35,630 vs $78550 converted)

The tip top brand buy pods that you can get on Amazon are nicer than both of these. They come with swivel and Pam functions and a lock lever on the adjustment right out of the box. I think I paid 80 bucks for mine and it blows them both away.

I have a 9-13" Caldwell for a coyote hunting rig that sucks and has been removed. I have a 6-9" Caldwell that I have abused quite a bit and it is doing well. When it goes I'm getting a Harris. The only reason I went Caldwell was a friend of mine was working at a big box store and I used his discount and got them both for $55 out the door.

I like the Blackhawk! bipods. They already have a pod lock lever on them. They only thing I don’t like is that the legs don’t extend by spring power, they retract.

I bought one before I knew the difference. the short answer is ‘No’ the longer you use it the more you realize it’s inferior in every way...and why it’s half the price.

I tried one several years ago and the notches in the legs were the same spacing, side to side, but the didnt line up side to side. One side the 1st notch was about a 1/4" out and the other side was like 3/4". It looked like the inner legs were just 20 foot notches aluminum stock, chopped to size and maybe they lined up...maybe not. Returned it and went with the Harris.

I got the Caldwell simply because I have never really used a bipod before and only do a bit of prone plinking and little hunting with it - when / if the Caldwell craps out I might go to Harris depending on how much I use the bipod - I have it on a quick disconnect with the KDG Kinect M-LOK Harris Bipod Extended Mount so I can pop it on and off rifle as needed

I have the XLA and it's fantastic. I'm actually not too crazy about the pivot system, so I just have it centered and locked in. But I can see how it might be useful for some folks. I'm mostly a bench shooter, so for me it's not really necessary.

Harris has been out for so long they should be offering versions that come with M-Lok or picatinny built in and should come with the pod lock. $100 bipod turns into $150 after you buy adapters and lever.

i got both of them. the caldwell and the harris. the two main problems of the caldwell are the caldwell unscrew itself under recoil on my 300wm, and it did not fit the curve of my cz452 forend stock. so, it does not work anywhere... so i bought a harris, this problems disapears...

if you are not going to use your gun as support getting out of prone, I use a Lions Gear which is very light. The pivot area is threaded and I use a thin rubber flat washer, thin, fender washer, a spring washer and small nob to adjust the exact tightness I want on the pivot. I have used it in long range two guns and long range timed redeployed time limit rifle matches. The are not very heavy.

I bought a Caldwell for a budget rifle, to say it's not on par with a Harris is an understatement... The bipod was shaky and NO spring tension while deployed. I replaced it with a SonicKing from Amazon , cheaper and significantly better! Harris is on my 22-250, but a Amazon cheapy for my .22 mag 👍

The weaker springs allow the gun to free recoil. I have found it works way better than the Harris witch in hunting situations where you don't have a shooting mat and can't always load the bypod you get vertical stringing. Does not happen with the Calwell

I've never owned a Harris but based on experience with the Caldwells - I doubt it. Firefield makes the best 6-9 inch Harris Clones. On my four Firefield 6-9 inch bipods (2 Compacts; 2 Strongholds), all the legs 'spring out' and lock into place every time. On my 5 Caldwell 9-13 inch XLA Pivot bipods, 2 of them have an issue were 1 or both legs don't spring out and lock into place consistently. Firefield Compacts does everything Caldwell XLA Pivots do but better while the Firefield Strongholds pivot, pan and adds a locking lever. I also bought two Atlas Clone to see if I wanted to save for a real one. 1 was trash while 1 was a treasure. I came to the realization that I prefer Harris style bipods over all others. Price wise - I can afford to buy a clone and leave it on the rifle it's installed on rather than 'breaking the bank' buying several Harris bipods or constantly transferring/sharing a couple of Harris bipods amongst a few rifles.

You pay for the name. 2 ounces so what! if you don't slam and bang on a daily bases like Military then this product is fantastic. You can buy 3 overtime. The problem is these gun snobs bloat the Market and run average people out of the hobby. The average guy with 3 kids can't afford to spend $$$ on equipment. These guys throw money at a hobby to the point where the manufacture just builds high-end products. Then the average hunter is shut out of the game. The same thing happens in the hot rod hobby or HI Fidelity sound equipment you get the point. What gets me is these guys go in the service (Thank You) then come back as an expert ???? NOT it's your rife do what YOU like remember it's yours. does it do what you need! PERFECT.
