Love your video. Others had been more eloquent in expressing this, but I appreciate your approach. I have had the XF605 for a few months, to complement my mirrorless Fujifilm X-H2S. I love the run and gun capabilities of the 605 and using the buttons without the need to dive into menus all the time.

4k with professional codecs and user interface along with XLR inputs, smallish form factor , stability and manual buttons. Yes please! A great video and it helped me press the button to 'replace' my Canon C100MII and compliment my EOSR.

A camera doesn't have to be a 'killer' of another camera. Different cameras suit different needs and budgets.

The M1 chipset and its successors is good at editing H265, but you may find colour grading another matter as the GPUs were not originally as powerful - that will change very quickly of course, and I may already be out of date with tis comment, but do check if possible. H265 may have a much bigger 'look ahead' than H265 - up to hundreds of frames instead of the H264 group of typically 12 frames and it is this which may slow processing down.

I SO want to like and buy this camera. In the end, the blocky Canon noise in low-light is a kill-shot for me. The Sony PXW-Z-150 just puts this video to shame. Good luck Canon.

Hi, thank you for this review, I would like to ask how the manual focus works on the xf605 camera, I own a canon xc10, and on this one it is quite a problem to use manual focus. I was wondering how to manually focus with the xf605 when the camera is on a tripod, wide angle (25.5mm), and from 50cm to infinity. And secondly it's set at (382.5mm), from 1m to infinity. On my canon xc10 camera, specifically for long glass, I have to crank up the wrist to re-focus from 1 meter to infinity. and at the same time the focusing is variable and not linear, so depending on how fast I turn the focusing ring, it focuses faster and slower and it is unpredictable, and I'm not very excited about it.

Just wondering if you had a chance to compare this to the JVC G-HC500 with SSD (in the Media Adapter)? The JVC, at least on paper, seems to edge out on specs - 20x optical zoom and the ability to record in-camera 10-bit 4:2:2 Apple ProRes (not just H.264/H.265) - at least to the SSD, which is the compact M.2 variety, so it's not like this bulky think hanging on the side.

Thoughts on the digital tele modes?

I have an XF-605 but I'm not very happy with it. Stabilization is poor and autofocus is random. The use of a tripod is imperative and I often have to settle for manual focus. It's a good machine for the studio, but not for use in the wild.

Did you try the c70 with the mount adapter Ef- Eos R .71x?

Well done on a comprehensive look at this camcorder! You should try more with your easy listening 'radio' voice😁it's cool! I own three XF300's and am considering upgrading to xf605s. How colour accurate did you find the LCD? and the viewfinder? Certainly compared to how the image looked when placed on an accurate monitor? Did you shoot at the highest 600mps? How was this when editing, if you tried? I know you said with the Macbook it played back fine, but was that at the highest bitrate? Did you try much out of focus foreground type shots?. It’s played on massive fields 185 meters x 135 meters roughly, one remarkable detail to our game is that there’s no standard field size, they can be anything. I would love to get your opinion on its suitability for recording games. One last question is it possible to record directly to a SSD and then simply plug the SSD into my new MacBook (that I need to also purchase) 😬 Thanks

Nice detailed review (I would love to see more footage of course! Shot in WideDR which is what I use most frequently with my C100 mk2) but thanks so much. I realize that nowadays mirrorless and cinema cameras (Canon C70!) are the rave and camcorders like this one are not sexy! But I own a XF300 and one XF100 and a C100 mk2 and they all have their uses. I have used the XF for live events-some minor concerts/dance shows etc and they are ok if there are lights on the stage...my c100 mk2 can get to ISO 5000 without much noise but it's not a run and gun camera really. I can use it a bit like that but sometimes a camcorder is the way to go. I didn't like the XF400-too consumer-ish I felt...couldnt afford the XF705! and I looked at the panasonic HC-X2000 4K camcorder but it's tiny sensor MUST be as bad or worse than my current XF100....so nope...this XF605 looks promising but is $6k Cdn here in Canada ...a lot of money and Canon has done a poor job at showing real footage shot with it...I have seen some samples here on youtube....some are just horrible...shot in auto and the footage is terrible. A few have been great...but I'm still not convinced I should buy it. I can't expect it to be as good in low light (not darkness-just not ideal-wedding receptions etc) as my C100 mk2 and a sigma 18-35mm f1.8! I understand..the 1" sensor may be a good compromise I guess... I watched a video in which a videographer compared a XF605 to a Sony pocket camera RX-100 VII and the video quality was alike for both, but of course the XF605 offers a true professional package..and yet...I'm not convinced. Maybe is the price...or some of the sample footage..too spoiled with the C100 mk2 and my Sony a6400 maybe...help! thanks for the video!

This is an excellent camcorder. But is it a cinema camera killer? The sensor is only a 1" type, and cinema cameras have Super 35 or full frame sensors. The difference in dynamic range, low light, and depth of field is still enormous. With that said, if you're an indie filmmaker, you could use this in a pinch. I don't know why you would when there are more cinematic options out there for less cash. The mirrorless cameras out there are shooting amazing video quality today. A lot of the issues DSLR and mirrorless cameras have had in the past for shooting video have been mitigated. The preamps are better, XLR adapters are available for many models, and the autofocus is excellent on the latest models. They still haven't put built-in ND filters on any mirrorless cameras, but I am hopeful that will happen sometime soon. Perhaps the XF605 could be used on set for niche kinds of shots. No, this is a camcorder. And there's nothing wrong with that for the appropriate use case. I see camcorders being the right choice for live event coverage, news gathering, sports, etc. I know the 1" sensor can give you a blurred background, but it's still probably too much depth of field to be considered cinematic.
