Two years since Qatar was blockaded by four Arab nations, yet still no end in sight.
A lot can happen in 730 days except, it seems, in the Gulf crisis.
Arguably, the standoff between Qatar, and the group of four Arab nations which blockaded it, is still where it was two years ago.
Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt, cut their diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar, closed the only land border, and imposed an air and sea blockade on June 5th 2017.
Kuwait stepped in to mediate, but even as recently as last week, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister was saying Qatar must come back to the right path, if there's to be a solution.
So, is this the 'new normal' in the Gulf?
Presenter: Kamahl Santamaria
Guests
Abdulaziz Al Horr, academic and researcher, who contributed to the book 'Policymaking in a Transformative State: The Case of Qatar.'
Imadaldin Al-Jubouri, political commentator.

Abdulaziz makes good points. Qatar knows well what being bullied is like. Why should they help Saudi and other Arab nations bully Iran? I wonder what the Yemen children thinks about the Saudis, talk about "terrorists."

I agree that the US is likely to not be involved in usurping a power that is aligned with them against countries categorized by the US as having state sponsored terrorism (North Korea, Iran, Sudan, Syria). I really think the US would not enjoy any strong military intervention either, after Iraq there is not a public desire to become embroiled in another project of rebuilding a country/government after removal. US will act as Intel and as a deterrent, though I don't see them going further than that. The UN should consider greater involvement via diplomacy under their purpose for having been created.

As someone from the USA, though ignorant, I do see Iran as being an evolved nation and I hope the best for its peoples. From Western standards, it has ancient culture, but is more progressive regarding equal rights and other matters than many other nations (such as not officially having Shariah, but having a constitution that aligns with Shariah) - So, in regard to nations governed by perceived religious law. They have a nice civilization, prosperity, quality of life. I never would have seen this coming eight years ago or so. Obviously, they were given nuclear power permissions by world powers with agreement they wouldn't weaponize with it; If they're not weaponizing, then I don't see a foundation for reneging on the nuclear energy deal. Give the US another year to determine the president for the following four years, then things between the two nations can get sorted, though hopefully before then. I suspect that would assist in geographical tensions, with exception of some foreign terrorist groups said to be sponsored by Iran.

@SASHA Savage yes religion of peace but it takes a peaceful person to bring that religion of peace to fruition. When America dropped atom bomb on Japan ot the atrocities in Vietnam, was it a reflection on christianity? Not at all, because not a single verse in both the old and new testament says to drop a bomb and vaporize 100 thousand people. So you see all religions are peaceful but with violent followers. Get that? You need to do serious study

It would be so great if everyone over there would make peace once & for all instead of the constant fighting and I'm sure the citizens would appreciate it too. I can however, understand everyone's fears of Iran. Personally, I worry about both Iran & Saudi Arabia. There's too much turmoil in the region. Seems like everyone would have come to see that sanctions/restrictions/fighting/bombing each other only hurts everyone & doesn't actually solve anything. In fact it causes outside intervention which I definitely do not approve of. It's either over borders, oil or religious differences. Religion should never be the cause of war but I can sorta understand, after all, the U.S. fought against the English to gain our freedom after having first left England for the sole reason of freedom of religion. It's never good for innocent people to die though. Best wishes for speedy solutions to all conflict.

Talk violence as a WHOLE, not just terrorism. If Qatar is engaged in terrorism then Saudi Gov is engaged in violence in Yemen, Libya and Syria. Terrorism is just a manifestation of Violence. Violence has different form & shapes , from sky someone dropping a bomb and killing innocent people is no different than someone is blowing up or someone is killing someone in the name of cow vigilant or a lone gunman killing indiscriminately inside a place of worship. This is a mental problem.

Aside from war crimes/crimes against humanity concerns regarding a radiological weapon being deployed on a non-military target, it would leave the area uninhabitable. It would just set back the Middle East further. They do need to find diplomacy that satisfies all parties sufficiently for coexistence, but given the history, none of these nations will ever be satisfied enough for lasting peace. If a 'salted bomb' were deployed, whatever nation responsible would be wiped from the planet within days or weeks and if any allies of the offending nation were great powers out of alignment with other great powers and chose military means, we'd have World War 3. The world would enter a new Dark Age if USA, Russia and/or China engaged in direct military combat with one another.

Where would we be if the second Iraq war of modern times did not occur that's what I wonder. I would just love it if Africa and the middle east find peace in spite of negative interference. The only people who benefit from war torness are those who thrive off inefficiency and problems. Imagine a new path was taken and all that solar energy was used to produce and refine new age fuels, imagine if the world united around a space technology installment in the Sahara utilizing drone chains in order to get anyone who wants to go up to space. Thinking of what could be and seeing how easily 50 years from now we could still not be utilizing the sun properly and be fighting over the last scraps of fossil fuel in such regions it makes me ashamed of humanity as we are all connected in the psyche of man and life on earth yet us humans act so divided sometimes.
