Disingenuous… why are u guys even doing these videos and claiming u know best?? Are u aware the M1 chips were not great and have a design flaw when they were created 7-8 years ago??? They have a bottleneck throttle issue on TDLR … Why buy yesterdays (7 year old tech) when the new chip design is better?????? Skip the STARBUCKS LATTE FOR A MONTH and spring for the MAX’d out MAC MINI 1TB - 32GB and that’s 👨‍💻 it Under 1TB u get 1/2 the bandwidth transfer speed crAPPLE THROTTLES US WITH THIS CHIP LIMIT 3,000 per sec transfer speeds or 6,000 per sec??? That’s the difference the under 1TB MODEL IS A WASTE OF $$$$ Why don’t u tech bloggers tell us the truth - and get the gigabit Ethernet too

@@klownaround5464 I thought only the 256gb gets half the bandwidth transfer? I’m honestly trying to get a mid tier Mac mini for 1000 with 16gb ram and 512 gb SSD. I can’t afford a maxed out rn. I plan on getting a maxed out version in a year or so and have the old as second computer in another room.

Because it’s not all necessary for everyone. If you want to buy something just to have it fully specked out, go for it. The Mac Mini is special in the sense that it allows someone that doesn’t have the budget to spend thousands to get into a Mac. This base model $599 version can handle a lot. As far as write speeds go, it’s “slower” but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Still quick enough for most. Sure, go spend like $400 to get a grand total of 1TB internally. If anything I would do the extra $200 for the 512GB SSD and then go buy a 1TB external SSD for $100. Now I have a grand total of 1512GB SSD and can use the external SSD wherever I want. For what I’m doing, I would t want the base model Mac Mini. I personal have a MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip. When you can afford the more powerful machine, go for it.

A true-to-life test demands running at least 7 diverse apps simultaneously, with 2 browser windows open boasting 10-15 tabs each. Unfortunately, many KZfaqrs fall short in executing this level of complexity in their tests. Kudos to you for taking this into account.

My brother. THANK YOU for doing this! It’s been frustrating over the past few days trying to find a useful review of vid editing on the base model configuration. But every YT reviewer I came across has been focused on the M2 pro minis and macs with “base model” configurations. Most folks know that the base model is just that. 8g ram 256gb. And I appreciate your demo on how 4k editing looks and works on one. I ordered the 16g ram 512gb configuration, hoping it would be enough. Especially with the SSD slow down issue in the new macs. And your vid pretty much confirmed that I made the right decision. You are duly appreciated. 👊🏾Thank you again! #subscribed #liked

Hi, thanks for this very helpful, straight-to-the-point, no-nonsense video. I’m on a tight budget but want to feel comfortable for the next 3-5 years. So I know I want the 16GB RAM. My question though is about storage. But I’m not asking about whether 256 is enough for files I create in the future. I know I’ll get 1 or 2 TB external SSD since I’m an amateur photographer, occasional travel blogger, language teaching podcaster, and illustrator. It’s about whether I’ll need more than 256 for programs and supporting firmwares. Thanks!

Exactly the real world demo with FCP I was looking for. Now I am thinking the 16/512 or 1T is the way to go for me BUT, would like to see a video on editing on external drive, since that is what I would need to be if I go the 516 route. Also, peripherals, with the limited number of plug ins on it, and I like using 2 monitors, what is your recommended setup/attachments. I am normally working with like 5 external drives, one of which is my backup drive. 🤔

It is until you start adding color wheels, Luts, etc. I did another test and it slows down a bit doing all of that. I was even able to make the Mac Mini freeze 3 times where I had to restart the computer to get it back on track. So if you’re doing color grading and other intensive things in the background, the base really starts to show that it’s a base. But…still can handle it technically

Hello :) Nice video m8... A simple question... i have now a windows based gamermachine, that not could take the format from my GoPro 11, the H.265 Soo... could i edit this format directly on this machine ? so no convert-time before i could edit the video ? I make primary, 98% of the time, video from my gopro11. And it is about 25min and will be in 4K. Simple video, without effects or something... will that run smoothly on the base model Macmini M2 with 8gb and 256ssd ? I think i also need to play a little fortnite on this machine, and think the 8gb also is enough here ;)

@@RoyFlorez $2000 was what I was originally hoping to spend, but in the lovely Apple marketing way, I was stretched to $2500 for the 16" screen to help my eyes, then another $200 not to get SSD Gate going on my system. So, I was hoping to spend $2000 and I'm at $2700. However; the low $2000 budget is because I feel this M2 Pro is massively a stop-gap, overclocked M1. I feel like the mind-blowing system will be the M3 if it's on 3 nano-meter or even 4. Apple is so iterative they will probably do the 4 nano first just to give themself something else to release in 2 years. I think this laptop, although awesome, will later be considered the worst of the Apple Silicon Macbook Pro years. But I really need one because Catalyst is melting, almost literally my M1 Air and my Sony A7IV photos in raw are super slow to edit. And for my recruiting job, after about 20 tabs my system is done and I could really use more :) Sorry for the long answer. But in a nuttshell, Apple has blown my initial concepts of what I thought I would spend.

Hi - Thanks for making this. I have Final Cut Pro and getting my head around it and managing to do Picture in Picture, importing titles and graphics and simple editing all in 1080p. My machine is a 2015 intel MacBook Pro and seriously wanting to upgrade to the Mac mini M2 base model. Of course the process time would be way quicker - So much so, I could potentially edit in 4k faster than now. Why am I telling you this? - Well I record in 1080p because - as you said - most people watch videos on phones. So my question (finally) What is the point in doing everything in 4k then downgrading it to 1080p? - Why not do everything 1080p? - I hope this isn't a stupid question? lol.

I now have a Mac mini M2 with 16GB Ram. I can now answer my own question. The beauty of recording and editing in 4K is it allows me/you to crop into a certain area with very little/noticeable picture degradation. If I recorded in 1080p the crop in would be very noticeable. Making a final edit from 4k to 1080P will make the whole picture one quality The downside is the amount of drive space required including external drives. A 45 minute video in 4k with say Picture in Picture and editing can average 1TB before reducing the file size for sharing. @@AnjuliMack

one issue is you have the 3 video tracks "stacked" FCP is smart enough to know it only needs to render the top layer LOL - you should have scaled them so it showed all 3 tracks at the same time THEN it would be having to handle all 3 at once - or pulled the opacity down on the top 2 so it had to process all 3 - but in short the way you have it is only having to deal with 1 even though 3 on the timeline!

I need a very powerful machine to run Apple Pro apps, Minecraft, and Ableton Live. I need a bigger screen as I am used to them; I could care less about its weight. I am not exactly a pro user, but I am trying to push Macs to their limits. Even though I live in the US, I do things the UK way. Specifications (or specs) for my ideal MacBook Pro: Finish: Space Grey RAM: 32 GB Storage: 1 TB SSD SoC: 12-Core CPU, 19-Core GPU Keyboard Layout: British

Any thoughts on using the base model with LIghtroom and a 70k photo library? I’m betting it’s way better than my l2012 i7 Mini. I’m an advanced amateur photographer. I know the M2 pro mini would be amazing, but I don’t know if it’s $700 Better

It would definitely be an upgrade versus what you’re currently using. I might throw out the suggestion to bump to 16GB of unified memory. It’s a little more but worth the upgrade in my opinion.

@@RoyFlorez yeah… then the “might as well ladder” kicks in and I add ten 512 SSD, then I’m $300 from the Pro and extra ports and long term use and now I’m at $1300! 🤣🤣🤣

@@davew19904 I would say just do the 16GB of unified memory. That puts you at $799. If you wanted to jump to 512GB SSD, which wouldn’t be a terrible idea, you’re still at $999 but I think just the bump in ram makes the most sense. Yes the 255GB SSD is slower but it’s still “fast” so I wouldn’t worry about that very much. Just have an external SSD handy since it sounds like you have a ton of photos lol.

They both are fine for FCP editing. It just boils down to what type of editing you're doing. Even the base model with 8GB of ram does fine with 4K editing. The M2 Pro will give your faster export times for sure though.

Does the increase of SSD from the base of 256 to 512 affect performance?
@RoyFlorez
@RoyFlorez 4 ай бұрын
When it comes to video editing, not really. You’ll notice that more with other type of task. The upgrade in RAM would be more helpful. Even then, your export times would be basically the same for similar videos. When it starts to become heavier color grading, 3D text, and more effects is when the extra ram will help.

If anything, I think the main take away from your video is that the base M2 Mac mini has annoying problems once you start stacking the video editing features or if you multitask. IOW yes, you can edit 4K video with the base model M2 Mac mini, but it's not really recommended. I suspect the 16 GB model would have fixed most the problems you encountered, but a direct 8 vs 16 GB comparison would have been nice to confirm that.

You can watch a 4k yt video on a 1080p screen and you can see more details and enjoy more the content. I did it for years. Now i have a 1440p screen and i'm still watching videos in 4K seeing every detail possibile. I can say the same with my 1440p oneplus smartphone. I can see the difference from 1080p and 4K on a 6.5 inch display... So it's not worth it uploading 1080p videos. That resolution was ok in 2015, but at leas since 2018 the 4K is the standard for channels that wants to be good and grow. (you upload 4k videos as well...)

This is true. I love uploading my videos in 4K if possible. For new people to video editing and KZfaq, it’s fine to do 1080p if their computer can’t edit 4K videos efficiently. Remember, even Mr. Beast uploads his videos in 1080p.

@@RoyFlorez Yeah, on the original M1, at least you can just upgrade to 16gb, and use external drive as the disk speed was good; this one we should do 512gb. In the end, Apple Silicon was a great leap forward over Intel so it's a great little machine even in the base config.

@@CO8848_2 yeah I would say to future proof it maybe do the upgrades if you know you need it. But for the base model, they aren’t marketing it as a pro one size fits all computer.
