Just what you want from a speaker review, what it actually sounds like and comprehensive analysis! I've got 3 Nest Mini and a Max in one room and sound great, have two Audios coming to join the party. Definitely recommend pairing as two nest minis joined sound more than twice as good. Also with the edition of the Google Max actually improves the sound of the Minis! I'd definitely recommend mixing and matching these as they complement each other sound wise and get better the more you add.

I'm actually in the same position as multiple people here, bought all brand new Sonos home Theatre and 4 Sonons One Gen 2 in November for mye whole house, and just sold them all. The Sonos experience is terrible, constant dropouts and generally alot of technical trouble. Meanwhile my old Chromecast from 2013 is stil working 100% perfect. Great review Brandon! I love reviews that actually shows the product in use and comparisson with other products. (Also more high end) Btw, Sonos One does not have a battery or Bluetooth making it dependent on working within the Sonos evironment only. Have ordered myself a Nest audio and Nest mini to test this solution out.

Glad you reviewed this because I really like the idea of having audio all over the house wirelessly and the sound quality on the nest audio seems pretty well rounded for a such a cheap smart speaker.. Also I listened to that Daft Punk song with my Pixel Buds 2 (bass boost on of course) and holy fuck you weren't lying about that bassline lol

Thank you for your review of the Nest Audio speaker. I have bought two of them, and I have placed one in my Great Room and one in my den. They both sit on a table that is against a wall and are facing outward toward the center of the rooms they are located in. I also have two Nest Hub Maxes,one in each of those two rooms. Each of the Nest Audios are the default music speakers for the Nest Hub Maxes in the rooms the Nest Audios are in. I control the Nest Audios with their respective Maxes. I am enoying very much the music that is coming from the Nest Audios. The music fills the rooms very well and is bright sounding. I usually listen to contemporary jazz and a little classical music. To me the music from the Nest Hub Maxes does not sound quite as good, probably because the music is coming from the back of those devices. I am certainly not an audio expert, and I don't have the best hearing in the world. However, especially at $100 apiece, they are an excellent addition to my smart home.

Btw do you have any recommendation for the best (delight to dollar ratio) speaker for a TV in bedroom? Plugged or portable doesn't matter as long as it doesn't use difficult setup like mixer or required more than 2 devices installation.

Got mine this morning in the UK, the courier delivered it at 8am. Went with the charcoal (crappy choice of colours here, would have loved the sky). Still interested in seeing how it holds up to the new Echo 4th gen (only reviews I have seen so far are in hindi or Italian 🙄). Not quite as loud as I was expecting but the clarity is way better than the 3rd gen Echo IMHO.

I like the idea of these. Might get a pair for watching tv on chromecast. Maybe stick some in other rooms in the future.

Interesting you say you don't see a point for the Sonos! Think you've helped me make my decision. How would you say the bass is, focussing on that - is the bass good enough with two of these in an apartment?

Will you compare two Nest Audio to two BOSE or Sonos speakers?

Even with my iPad pro speakers, I can hear the bell sound clearly on the iLoud speaker whereas I don’t on the Nest Audio. I am indecisive which one to get between Apple Homepod Mini and Google Nest Audio. I already owned a Google Nest Mini, it works just fine and will be better integrated with the Nest Audio. But since most of the devices I owned are Apples so I’d want to try the Homepod Mini (Huge reason is that lots of reviews say it sounds great. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find one to try how it sounds in my country). I probably buy a Nest Audio because it has a lot more third-party service support than Homepod Mini

We have a JBL extreme and a google home in the Livingroom, a couple of more speakers in the kitchen including a nest hub in the kitchen so the parrots can watch Rocky and Bullwinkle.... more JBLs with google audio Chromecast on the deck, All over the map but it works great. However in the living room it is particularly unsatisfactory. Time for an upgrade. Your video answered all my questions and the size comparisons was helpful. The regular google home and the JBL Extreme leave the living room and upgrade the deck. Toot!

I have 4 Sonos 1 gen 2s and this Nest audio and I can tell you first hand that the Sonos is well worth the extra money , It has better base and clarity ,you can also put google assistant on it and you can also cast to it....Don't get me wrong , the nest audio is great for what it is and I use it daily in my bedroom for music and alarms , weather ect.

Got one for sale a week ago, and been trying to find someone with the same problem as mine: volume below 35% is barely audible, the assistant does can be heard, but any audio playing below 35% is as it's playing on mute. It does go high and loud, but volume need to be kept 55% or above to be usable.

Nice video but u are wrong about both nest displays. Both have their speakers at the front. The nest Hub max have an additional subwoofer at the back.

Just as a note. The nest hub max actually HAS front facing speakers. It's only the subwoofer that it is rear facing.

My problem right now (that I hope this speaker allows) is I can't watch a video on say youtube with my nest hub mini and play the audio on a speaker group that combines screens and speakers. That sucks, I can do audio only no problem with stuff like Spotify. But watch Netflix on my hub and have a group include nest minis playing the audio gives a msg on the hub saying can't cast video and audio together or something.....I also can't pair a screen with a speaker, why not right? I can't give my nest hub a boost in audio by pairing a nest mini speaket with it, or make a group with speakers and screens that works while watching video.. Maybe you can pair or create a group with the new nest audio and a nest hub and watch KZfaq to get audio through both speakers and the video through the 1 screen...because that currently doesn't work for me. This would be a nice addition to the house especially with the new Google assistant starting to roll out. We are Google Home in the whole house combined with a Samsung Smartthings hub (which Google and Samsung integrated very nicely) now I can ask Google to do things with devices normally outside the Google ecosystem. I can run routines that include devices like motion sensors and contact sensors for example and run or end the routine by asking Google, devices using zigbee or zwave i control with Google assistant. A smarthings hub is $60 and now you have So much more ability that works perfectly with Google, and routines that are far more sophisticated..its worth adding Just for the zigbee and zwave instead of only adding wifi devices which use giant batteries. Zigbee motion detectors use a coin battery that is tiny So the entire device is much smaller and the battery has lasted me well over a year and its still over 50%....and zigbee creates a mesh network with each new device added, each new motion sensor or light switch, light bulb contact sensor, or whatever device automatically creates a self healing mesh network with the other devices using zigbee or same with zwave. Each device added is like a adding another wifi mesh router, except the light bulb is the router. So you get better coverage as you grow. Google uses wifi only and the devices don't create a mesh, even with a wifi mesh network after too many wifi devices problems occur and devices drop. Zigbee keeps your wifi un cluttered. Imagine 20 or 30 devices less using your wifi network, or 50 less wifi devices on your network, it would probably run better no? Less devices needing to be reconnected occasionally and showing up as doubles. Eventually Google will have thread (i hope) smartthings has a thread antenna inside it now, So its ready for the switch too. Anyway sidetracked myself...excellent review I absolutely want one or three for the house.

I was lucky enough to get a chromecast audio before they discontinued them... So I have a home mini that defaults to playing on my 200 watt Logitech speakers. Certainly not the best speakers, but I'm not an audiophile and they sound great to me (and only $119)

It’s so funny how you use Solar Sailor to test the really low frequency bc I use the exact same song to test the low end. Another few songs that smart speakers have hard time replicating the lows are beginning of Talking Body by Tove Lo and Set Fire to Rain by Adele. 😂. And for highs and details.. Hotel California (Live) of course. Overall, sound quality, would you recommend this vs the Amazon Echo (not Dot)? I have both eco systems in my smart home so I’m okay with either. I’m looking at adding a smart speaker in my garage just for music when I do work in there.

Nest hub speaker isnt in the back. It faces forward and down into whatever it's sitting on. Hub max has a rear woofer.

Since that product been released, my Google Home Mini start to sound bad. I hope they didn't reduced the quality on other devices to make this one sounds better :/

Nest Audio vs. HomePod Mini when available?

From what I hear the Nest Audio has better sound than the first version of the Sonos, but not as good as the latest version. BUT Sonos also has the problem that when they upgrade their speakers the new versions don't work with the older versions in the app. Now Ikia has a version of the Sonos speakers that are $100 and from what I hear they sound really good so they may be a future video? www.ikea.com/us/en/p/symfonisk-wifi-bookshelf-speaker-black-00357561/ I see they also have a lamp version for 189. The thing is will the Google speakers work with a TV? I'm guessing if yes the TV would need to have Bluetooth because there isn't a way to hook them up to your TV otherwise which is kind of a bummer because my TCL 5 series doesn't have Bluetooth.

For clarity sake, the Nest Hub Max's speakers are not ALL on the back. There are 2 small tweeters on the front, and a woofer on the back. But I would assume it will sound much more scooped than the Nest Audio and lack midrange clarity.
