I think there is too much focus on the HP (not in the review, just in general). This bike comes with bargain bin suspension and brakes and only costs $1k less than a zx6r which comes with showa BPFs and legit brakes. Cool bike but not great value.

Yeah, seems like a "cash grab" for riders that don't know better. At least the insurance would be less (I think). Upgrade the suspension and brakes and you get... a more expensive/slower bike 9.9

@@rrazote2279Insurance is a good point, I am not sure what they come in at. I would just rather ride the faster bike in a low power mode and enjoy the plush suspension. Although, maybe I am biased because I live in PA and our roads look like downtown Fallujah.

@@chriskratz7075 Insurance is the only reason I "settled" for a z900rs instead of getting a CB1000R. When I had Progressive, they quoted me about $379/mo for the Honda, and $300/mo for the Kawi - monthly payments if I was to finance was $250 for either bike. I told them off and moved to allstate for $70/mo. I couldn't even imagine what it would cost to insure a 600cc sportbike. Here's the irony... I bought a Monkey this spring and modded it up so that it's putting out all of around 13HP, and of the two bikes, it's what I ride more often. Insurance for it is $30/mo. Trying to sell the 900 now, as it's collecting dust in the garage. "Fast on a slow bike" - I honestly, couldn't be happier =P

You can have two bikes that are identical in weight, but one has that weight up high in the frame and the other has it down low in the frame and the first bike will feel twice as heavy. Weight distribution is what Chase is feeling when he says the R7 feels lighter than a R6.

This is basically a more reasonable sports bike for the streets and maybe a nice bike for a beginner. Companies are always trying to cut cost and this is a clear example.
@chorseundgrd
@chorseundgrd 3 жыл бұрын
@@O.World_RR What it does give you is usable power on the street. People can talk all they want about how they daily supersports but the one positive this bike has is power that is more useful in a street setting. This bike on the track will require extensive modification to really be a capable track weapon. So it seems like Yamaha priced and spec'd this to be a "useful" supersport street bike. They could have neutralized the body position, made it a bit cheaper, and made it a sport touring bike and I think it would make more sense.
@chorseundgrd
@chorseundgrd 3 жыл бұрын
@No_Name I agree. I own a Ninja 650 and it's an "ok" bike. Great for beginners and very practical but Kawasaki hasn't really seen the need to give it any killer features because there is no competition. This would slot right above the Ninja 650 but wouldn't be all the way up the chain where the CBR650R, Duc Supersport, S10000XR, and Tracer 9 GTs live. Just a silly bike from Yamaha imo.
@trsskater
@trsskater 2 жыл бұрын
@@chorseundgrd I agree with you. I really wanted this bike. It feels like they tried to copy Aprilia a bit by making a bike in a weird category. But imo they failed. It's costs as much as a z900 but with less power. It's a super sport that doesn't super sport. Even at it's costs it's not that great as a beginner bike. Who is this bike really for? It's a really cool bike but anyone who wants it would be better served on so many other bikes for the price.

@trsskater

@@FtdBroKenCyde My problem is the horse power. It's more the torque. The it is a torquey bike but at the price you can get a lot more torque. If you want to cosplay as a racer with a bike that looks like a super sport but is actually for street riding then it will be good for that. But you can still do so much better for the money. And if you like to wind a bike out a proper super sport will still give you more torque especially if you don't live in a city and have more open roads or do high riding frequently. Zx6r will hit a quarter mile is 10.6 seconds vs r7 with 11.6 seconds. And both bikes cost nearly the same with the quick shifter added.

The R7 is definitely slower than the R6. Not a whole lot of comparison. You're talking 75hp to like 123hp. You have a hard time hitting 120 mph on the R7. You'll hit 150 mph with ease on the R6. Price is kool though. Daily driver worthy. Good traffic bike. If you're not a track guy theres really no point in getting an R6 or a liter bike. Ask a track rider. The sport bikes aka super bikes are meant for the track. Most people that own a bike don't even know exactly what they are capable of. Go to a local track day and you'll see exactly what I mean..

13:27 - "It let's me focus on being more of a rider and less on where I have to be on revs and gear." Part of riding is managing your engine output via proper gear selections. And that's a large part of the fun as well. It's why a lot of riders enjoy 600s over liter bikes: you have to interact with, and be in harmony with, the motorcycle. In bikes with all-day low end, where all you have to do is twist the throttle, you lose that. Maybe that's why the sight of a motorcycle with DCT fills me with sadness. 🤔

I just wanna say, the R7 from 2022 is NOT the R7 from 1999. The 2022 R7 wasn't even made to be anything similar to the 1999 R7. The R7 now is a beginner bike for people who don't want to be slow, but don't want to have R6 speeds. The 2022 R7 is equivalent of a sv650, cbr650r, z650, ninja 650, MT-07, etc. It hurts me inside when people try comparing bikes that don't have any similarity except maybe the looks. I'm still a new rider, only being on the saddle for 3 months, and yet I still understand which types of bikes can't be compared to others, engine layout and gearing can drastically change how 2 bikes are looked at when being compared. R7 is a low power, high torque, parallel twin. R6 is a high power, low torque, inline 4. Both of these are relative to each other. The term "there is no replacement for displacement" holds no meaning when comparing 650s to 600s. So let's stop treating it like it does.

OC: The R7 seems like a great bike to have in the mountains. If I had to choose another new bike it be the Aprilia RS660. The Aprilia will cost more but for what you're getting I think the price is more than worth it.

Probably, personally i think less is better I'd take the R7 Also the rs660's got 100hp, I'm riding 48hp at the moment and can hardly wring out the motor. Meaning 72hp would technically be contraproductive. But I'd also only take the R7 for looks and engine sound.

@@Daniel-dj7fh I'm a fan of a raw no rider aids bike like the R7. Reminds me when I started on a Ninja 250. I say I'd take the RS660 because I've been riding for over 11 years so 100bhp isn't a big deal for me. I'm saying that the R7 is over 8k and is bare bones with abs. While the RS660 is just over 10k and comes with tons of tech and features an what I like most the dash and the looks of the bike.

I dont understand how can people justify paying 9k to a new bike which comes with basically nothing compared to rs660 and not paying 11k for the aprilia which has everything. if the bike made more power like r6 then maybe but it make 30 less hp and costs almost as much as the rs660. idk seems so wrong.
@Frank_Torre
@Frank_Torre 3 жыл бұрын
@@abyedrikn I imagine people buying the R7 over the Aprilia maybe a cost thing. They may not have over 10k to spend or say your credit is shit may not be able to finance the Aprilia. Or people are getting the R7 for the reliability that Yamaha provides. Plus Yamaha did deliver a great commuter bike that has sportbike styling for a good price.
@Daniel-dj7fh
@Daniel-dj7fh 3 жыл бұрын
@@abyedrikn 30hp is not worth 2k imo, you could get a flash for the r7 and probably also get 100hp for no where near that money. If hp is all you care about. Personally, I couldn't care less if the bike has a quickshifter, wheelie control, a colorful screen, a fancy brand name. Especially if none of that actually looks nice, most companies tend to make their tft screens look like ass.

The R6 is a beast in comparison, but for daily riding, I feel like the R7 is a far less demanding, more fun option for neophyte or even experienced riders. Considering the foot pegs are way lower and the handlebars are way higher. You can not lean it as far as an actual Supersport or you're dragging hard parts. This bike is not a Supersport. Stop saying it is. It's a really cool sport bike. That's it.

The weight differential is related to inline 4s being top heavy and parallel twins having more of the weight down low. I just ordered the R7 60th Anniversary World GP version. I am a little concerned with the difference because now my 05 ZX6R 636 is going to be converted to a track day bike. I feel like the difference in weight distribution may cause some issues going on track with the 636 after riding the R7 on the street on a regular basis.
@reubendouds
@reubendouds Жыл бұрын
How have you found the difference? Are you a fan of the R7?
@timothythomas72
@timothythomas72 Жыл бұрын
@@reubendouds the difference is even bigger than I originally thought. I learned to ride nearly 20 years ago on a ZX6 inline 4. And the guy the taught me had significant track time. So I guess when riding sport bikes I had been using modified track techniques even on the street. So on the 636 I typically shift my butt over to the inside of a turn. Then I brake and learn my upper body until I hit tip-in speed. At that point I use the throttle to hold the line. Then I hit the throttle a little bit and the bike pops straight up. No real muscle at all, other than shifting my weight. All made possible by the top heavy inline 4. So contrast that with the R7. The weight is even lower than I had thought. It is very "flickable" for weaving in and out of traffic. But even slight shifts in my weight (shifting my butt to the inside) can cause a bobble in stability. And relying on the throttle to maintain your lean, or adjust your lean, is not as effective. And it has to be more muscled out of the lean. I can't just blip the throttle and pop it up. All related to the fact that it doesn't have that high center of gravity wanting to get into a straight upright position. I have found on the R7, on the street, that maintaining the best speed through turns doesn't involve the outside inside outside technique. It's more picking the correct line with much less braking and not getting near a knee dragging lean. It's hard to explain, but I do have a KZfaq channel launching soon that will explain all that I'm talking about with video. As far as being a fan of the R7, contrary to what you might think from the above paragraphs, I do love it. It serves the purpose of why I brought it. I am abnormally tall above the waist. 6'2" with a 30" inseam. On a naked bike, with no wind screen, I act like a parachute and all my weight ends up distributed towards the back. The wind screen and fairings of the R7 keep that from happening. Start and stop downtown riding is just as brutal on the hands and wrists as the ZX6. But I rode from Panama City Beach to Destin nonstop with no pain. That was more than I had expected and exactly what I was looking for. So, yes, I am a big fan of the R7. But riding it on the street, and riding a ZX6 at the track is not a good idea. So that is a little disappointing.
