The Razor Crest is actually a MandalMotors ship the design predates the Clone Wars.

@zouni this is what I was thinking, looks very similar to Jaster Mereel's ship that Jango pilots in the Lucas Arts video game Star Wars Bounty Hunter. One of my favorite games for ps2.

I think the relationship to the LAAT still works, though in reverse. Given that clone armor was basically knock-off beskar'gam it seems likely that other equipment would similarly borrow from Mandalorian designs.

The laat was able to travel through space for a short period of time as seen in the citadel arc of the cone wars. It wouldn’t have been that much harder to completely seal it

In universe, the Kaminoans were also tasked with training and equipping the clones they produced for the Republic. Training was outsourced to Mandalorian soldiers of fortune. As the Kaminoans had also no experience in creating walkers, speeders and ships, they commissioned e.g. walker production to KDY - and probably asked MandalMotors to design a cheaper version of the Razorcrest type to use for mass production.

A distinctive unique ship is a liability for a bounty hunter. IMHO The best bounty hunter ship would be a heavily modified *Corellian light freighter.* Because it doesn't advertise that a _Bounty Hunter is in town._ Slave 1 lands at the local starport and everyone who has (or suspects they might have) a bounty on them knows to be on their guard. And the starport will just be buzzing with the news of the Fett's arrival - it would get in the way of the mission, your target would be alerted, and they might run away under another identity before you can track them down. There's also the risk that someone would blow up your ship as you came in to land, as a preemptive strike. Or even just trash it on the ground while you're away, to inconvenience you. And thus it is the same when the Razorcrest flies in, those in the know know (!) The Mandalorian is arriving to do business. And if you are the business.… Instead something like the Outrider (the smallest), the Ghost, or the Millennium Falcon, with some holding cells and hidden ion weapons would be perfect. Locals would just assume you're another quasi legal freighter/smuggler and you can keep a low profile while tracking your target, who you can catch off guard with a planned ambush. Even keep a little cargo capacity to aid your cover (or to do a little "high value" work on the side…), while you find the mark. And for in-space interceptions, it once again catches the target off guard, as what appears to be a freighter just passes by and then unloads with ion weapons disabling the ship. Otherwise when a famous Bounty Hunter in their custom ship lands, before they've gone to the local bar a smart target will be getting passage offworld while wearing a environment suit and pretending to be a alien from a non oxy/nitrogen planet.

The fatal flaw in what you bring up is those freighter ships although commonly seen required a ton of maintenance and addons the falcon for example had more extras on it than it could safely hold having one of those ships required lots custom features to make them useful for bounty hunting they don't start out fast you'd need a whole new engine and require a minimum of 2 people to pilot it and more than that to operate the guns on it it would be like taking a minivan to street racing lots of the notorious bounty hunters have unique ships it's never been a thing to worry about your ship getting vandalized when parked at a spaceport they tend to have strong security in those areas you don't really have to worry about your ship scaring off the bounty because tracking fobs and other ways to locate the targets they try flying away easier to shoot down as well as being already in the place where the targets ship is docked

it makes a lot of sense it could also be that its the other way round that the clone gunships are based on the razor crests design and that its something that kuat had as a sub line of ships, plus its got from what i can see side panels that are open when the jawa's strip it so its likely its got doors on the sides and back for maximum troop deployment or cargo loading. either way i like it and the mods like the carbonite unit and the weapons rack, i kinda want to see him buying or doing some sort of upgrade to it. Though i think that the best thing to do is force mando to work with a droid of some type that requires him to get over his issues and learn to work together and have it snark at him a lot like k2so

Well probaly the razor crezt is a mandolorian gun ship and it makes sense the dc 15 a is a mondolarion gun and the armour of the clones is modufied mando armour

In real life, the designer of the Razorcrest had worked on the game Star Citizen before joining The Mandalorian. He had designed the Cutlass line of ships for that game, which were designed for pirate and bounty hunter use, and brought much of their design language over to the Razorcrest.

I liked this video, and my assignment is that the Razor Crest was designed as a Secial Forces drop ship. Since it has drop ship doors, and a hyperdrive, it can jump into a system close to a planet, to allow Spec Ops Troopers to conduct a quick raid or other mission.

Look up Zugi's Bounty Hunter ship from the Clone Wars. The Razor Crest shares far more design lineage with that.

John Russell it is thanks. I googled it And found an interesting description of “ the ship was a Kaut Drive Yards Amphibious interstellar Assault Transport. That sounds similar to what the razor crust is. They are similar looking but the engines in the Jaster’s legacy are much bigger. I wander if the creators of the Mandalorian used Jaster’s legacy as inspiration for the razor crust.

All I would change with the LAAT is adding a standard deflector shield, a class 1.0 hyperdrive, increase its speed to 1000 KPH, and make those wing ball lasers turned into turrets That’s my idea anyway

Off topic, suggested topic. How should Mon Motha and the New Republic have behaved after they won, if they were being pragmatic but didn't have a crystal ball (or a leaked copy of the script). And would it have stopped the First Order becoming so powerful. IMHO instead of de militarising, invest in a new line of anti pirate patrol ships to keep order, using automation to keep crew requirements down, so they can supply _a lot_ of them without needing massive manpower. Not designed to intimidate a planet, but to protect it from riff raff, and police a system. That would stop some of the populace reminiscing about the stability of the Empire, and thus throwing in with the First Order.

Check out Star Wars The Clone Wars: Bounty Hunters. The hunters fly a Botajef SS-54 assault ship called the Halo. Botajef make a freighter with a similar design to both the Halo and the Razor crest.

@@seand.g423 Could be that it's been repaired and maintained, progressively by each owner, down centuries. Each pilot would find it progressively more difficult to keep the parts stock and the ship pretty, but it would be entirely possible... I'm sure there's not an original part left in the Millenium Falcon, for example... granted, she's a much younger ship but Mandalorians are nothing if not dedicated fixers and tinkerers.

It has a one person cockpit and living quarters. That makes it a trade ship, not a security vehicle. It has a hyperdrive and large sublight engines, so it isn't a landing craft. What we're looking at is a far trader. It's the sort of ship that someone traveling off the records and far from civilization would likely use.

I agree that it could well be a Botajef Shipyards ship. The transport you're talking about is the AA-9 Freighter-Liner, there's also the SS-54 line which had the Assault Ship and Light Freighter configurations (like Sugi's Halo) that starts looking very much like it.

There is a class of ships in the Star Wars Universe called Uglies, that are basically ships hobbled together from different ships. So the fuselage could be the gunship, with the wings removed with bigger engines

If y’all wanna get really nerdy, the ship is actually from the Bounty Hunter video game from 2002, designed by someone at Lucasfilm for the game. Now there’s all kinds of lore behind it, but really it’s just a cool design that Filoni likes.

Check out the ship belonging to the bounty hunters in the clone wars! Episode "bounty hunters". When they teach the farmers how to defend themselves, arch. The green ship looks VERY similar. Maybe just missing the storage area
