In 1970 I was 17 years old and I would dream of this watch when I saw it on a pawn shop for $5,000 then you could have bought a car for 5000 time flew and after having three daughters and two sons never could afford to get one some say well why can't your kids buy it for you now my daughters have their children my two boys are in the Marines I am retired and I just don't have enough time to save what it's worth today to all the young people out there make the effort to buy it now before it's too late try hard to realize your dreams when you're young

For an all gold watch, it doesn’t look all that gaudy. At least not to my eyes anyway. If I had the dosh, I’d definitely purchase one of these. And yellow gold is getting quite rare to find in high-end watches nowadays. Everybody including most watch brands seem to prefer rose gold.

This is the exact model Day-Date I would purchase, if I could afford to (I can’t!) from the 40mm to the gold dial with baguette cut diamond indices to the C3 yellow gold of the entire watch/bracelet itself. The only yellow gold watch with bracelet and diamonds I would consider. As my tastes are usually far more subdued. But this just looks right to me.

the thing I love about rolex’s Is they’ve proven to retain their value. You can enjoy them for ten years and still get a very large amount of your money back if you kept it in clean condition (in some cases even over what you paid but for the mass majority of people, a watch is too enough not an investment piece). Is it worth 40k? Depends who you ask, definitely doesn’t cost 40k to make. But there’s lots of demand for it so even if you pay 40k today, you can be confident you’ll get at least 30k back (or more) whenever you choose to sell it

I bought mine in white gold, very undercover and can be a daily. Very few could pull the yellow gold off daily. Well made watch too apart from being a design classic

That Watch is the epitome of excellence....the Day date oozes Success. I Dont think another watch gets my attention as quick as someone wearing this piece. I Would prefer the 36 mm...I always admired Tom Landry and Jack Nicklaus wearing their Rolex Day date.

This specific model esp with the diamonds is iconic. One of the best ones by Rolex ever made.

I had one and sold it, it’s very nice and all that but you constantly worried about it getting damaged or stolen plus people would charge me double for everything I wanted to buy, I will buy another one when I retire 😂

I still prefer the 36mm as it’s the perfect dress watch size, 40mm or larger ones normally good for casual or sport watch

The value of the gold is >9k or 20% of the MSRP of the watch, the other 80% R&D, marketing, mostly hype etc. So the price to value for what you get is imo extremely poor.

He didn't even wear his, as it was a gift from his mistress Marilynn Monroe that Jackie was clueless about - he told his aide to "get rid of it" when it showed up with a loving engraving from Marilynn on it's back. Eisenhower was gifted one from Rolex in the 50's and wore it a good bit. LBJ was famous for wearing his every day, and it actually was marketed by Rolex as "The President" in their print ads because of LBJ's appreciation for the watch.
