Is the Sachtler Aktiv Slider Adapter Worth $500?

I tested the Sachtler aktiv Slider to 75mm Tripod Adapter with the Syrp Magic Carpet Pro and Sachtler aktiv6 Head with Flowtech 75mm legs. It's by far the easiest and quickest way I've found to securely mount a slider to a tripod. Between the easy adjustability of the Flowtech legs and how quick it is to level the head with the Aktiv Slider Adapter, it's easily my favorite slider setup I've ever used.

Can you level the tripod head itself on the little adapter on top of the slider?

Hi! Thanks for the video 😊. Can I still do pan and tilts with aktiv 8 head when locked off on the slider in your video?

Yes, you can still pan and tilt on the head with the slider locked off. There isn't any play but you'll have to level the entire setup including the slider since you can't level the head independently of the slider without adding an additional leveling base.

Can you level the camera on top of the slider with the Aktiv ball mount? Or is the camera fixed in place on the slider?

You cannot level the tripod head on top of the slider. You can level the slider and head as one unit using the Aktiv Slider mount but the head is fixed in place on top of the slider. You could however add a leveling base like the Manfrotto unit below if you needed to level the head independent of slider. What other options would you have to use this head and tripod with a slider? If you didn’t splurge?

What I did before buying the adapter is I used a different tripod for the slider. I still used the Aktiv head on the slider but would move the head back and forth between the Flowtech sticks when I just wanted a tripod or a heavy duty Manfrotto tripod that the slider was mounted to. This worked reasonably well but meant I was carrying two tripods with me on every slider shoot which was annoying. Alternatively you could remove the Aktiv bowl connector from the Flowtech sticks and mount the slider using a standard 75mm ball like this one from Manfrotto. The Aktiv bowl connector takes some adjustment to get it dialed in correctly so it'd be a slow process to switch back and forth. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/553993-REG/Manfrotto_520BALL_520BALL_75mm_Half_Ball.html
