I bought my sony a6700 and SIGMA 24-70 together last year, and I mainly use it for sports videography. I put a cage and handle for a better grip and monitor handle, and I use a Ulanzi cooling fan to keep temperatures down. The fan is certainly a game changer with this camera. I think this does everything the sony FX30 does and more (better for photography) but the only downside being the overheating. Adding the fan, and keeping it at the highest setting brings down the temperatures a lot, and it's as easy as leaving it plugged in to an external battery for unlimited fan usage. This is the "do it all" camera and you can keep it small and light, or rig it up to have it preform like an fx30. Great camera I would honestly prefer to have the sony FX3 over the a6700 or FX3, but with the price its non negotiable for casual to semi-professional use. I'd even argue with proper rigging, this can be used for professional use cases, like I will be doing in the near future.

Here is the thing. The A6700 is a great hybrid budget APC camera, for cinematic videos and photos. But filming at 4k 120fps all the time is too heavy for overheating its logic. I understand the expectation of filming for sports events is a great disappointment. For that, I recommend the FX30 and FF FX3 over the A6700 for sports events as some in the comments say. Because it has a fan and two Card slots that gives more benefit than the a6700. I will buy the A6700 for other purposes and it will be my first camera with changeable lenses. I have owned the Sony ZV1 for over 3 years and I am ready for the next step I did a lot of research before. I know that this camera will suit my needs. Really nice that you make more content about sports videography camera reviews keep doing that.

I'd been contemplating buying a A6700 for a while, but the overheating issues concerned me. Your view is spot on, where many just say it's not really an issue, or just buy a Ulanzi fan. I felt putting a fan on the plastic back would only help slightly, as you are not actually cooling the working parts. I ended up forking over the extra $400 for the FX30 with a built in fan, and I'm glad I did. Thanks for the honest review!

I’m using the a6700 professionally but I’m an extreme run and gun weirdo. I mainly shoot mountain bike events where I’m often riding a bike with my camera in a bag then whipping it out to get my shots. I went a6700 over FX30 because I find the viewfinder useful in bright light situations (can’t be mounting a monitor in most cases). Haven’t experienced overheating issues but the longest clips I shoot are interviews that last maybe 5 minutes and I’m mostly shooting outdoors. Works for me but, like I said, I’m not normal.

I've not had a warning coming on since using this combo, shooting the whole hockey and basketball pre game/game. The a6700 is a tiny camera and needs all the help it can get with overheating. These Ulanzi fans, that everyone seems to be reviewing and recommending are just that - fans, blowing against the back of the camera. There's a much more robust solution, that not many people talk about - the Tilta a6700 Lightweight Kit: cage + handle + cooling. The fan in that kit is also a heatsink and it mounts securely to the cage (it can only mount to that specific cage - it's not universal). It actually presses against the back of the camera with a thermal pad. The cage itself also helps with heat dissipation. Yes, it's a more expensive solution, but it actually works properly.

Yeah I heard. I’d like to understand how it works though because overheating is much more related to hardware than firmware. Unless they simply raised the shutdown temperature threshold.

Salut ! Camerele Sony A6400 , A6700 și FX30 , pot face fotografii în timp ce filmezi ? Eu fac videografii sportive pentru copii cu gopro9 și oscilez in a cumpăra una din camerele de mai sus cu condiția să poată face si poze in timpil filmării ! Îmi poți da un sfat ? Merci anticipat !

To be honest, I have no idea if you can take photos and film at the same time. There's probably a way but I've never done it. I also don't think your photos would look very good because you need a much higher shutter speed for sports photography. You're probably better off using screen shots from your video after the fact.

Also, the a6700 doesn’t have quite as good 4K 120p as the FX30. The FX30 has a better compression format for 4K 120p due to being able to utilize the faster Cfexpress cards. Other than that video quality is the same.

I don't know about that but I imagine you are right. The full size HDMI of the FX30 also allows you to do external recordings in higher quality.

@@JeffCorcelius it would be fun, don’t get me wrong, but almost all photography lenses are not parfocal. Only cinema lenses are and they are way more expensive. So that’s just something that you get used to. And since our subjects are constantly moving and changing, it doesn’t really make any difference anyway.

I don't agree with you! I create commercial videos for restaurants, gym, festivals and other businesses with the a6700 camera, and you don't need an hour straight to film or shoot a commercial. So yes, it is definitely a professional camera. So far i made 20k. But for a football match mmmm maybe is not the right camera🤷‍♂️ lol

a6700 is not a 4k60 camera. It is a dad camera and you can run it all day at 4k24/30 without a fan. Long form 4k60/120 is pro level recording needs.

@@sevenstudio4250 gets rid of some motion blur which makes the footage appear sharper. It’s something I like to do for sports because there’s so much fast movement and therefore so much motion blur. But I understand it’s not for everyone.
