I’m a Polaris snowmobile guy and I’ve owned many ATC’s and ATV’s over the last 35 years but never a Polaris. I just bought a 2011 Sportsman 850 Touring LE like new with only 62 miles on it. The ride quality and suspension compliance is the best I’ve ever experienced on an ATV I’m very impressed.

@@dirttraxtv I go back and watch all the old videos of the ATV'S and love them and I also have a 2018 Sportsman XP 1000 you made me buy and that was a hard sell to my Wife because of the 2017 Kodak EPS you made me buy the year before. Sorry I'm upset about you saying that the Grizzy started with the 660 but it started in 1998 with the Grizzy 600 and I have a 1999 Grizzy 600 that I got new and still running better than new because it was just to learn from the factory and my son in law is riding it now and my other son in law rides the Kodak and I ride the Sportsman XP 1000 so it works out great.

I had one . I traded it on a new Suzuki KingQuad750. (Referencing the sportsman )Rode like a dream and best seat in the atv business . ( I had a Premium 1000 SP). It’s very robust 0-50 , midrange WOT is pretty tame . Rotax is still boss hog stock power. Brutes remain the best combination of getting close to big bore response and retaining Japanese quality. I don’t regret trading for the KingQuad750 one bit . I wanted far less maintenance and much higher quality and it has that in spades with respectable power at about 50hp . My three brute forces were a blast and the sportsman 1000 was definitely fun , but overall quality is still lacking . If I went back to muscle quad power again I’d opt for an xtp 1000r outlander .

@joekearney

@@izom 4327 unnecessary grease zerks ,( some models don’t have any , or only a few I know ) and in general they just require more constant maintenance , fluid changes , quicker wearing items such as bushings and bearings . Quality ? After owning not one but two Polaris atvs it would take far longer than I have to text right now …busting front pinion plates constantly and destroying diffs , bushings that wear out in 1k miles or even less , dry seals and bearings from factory , flimsy switches , just poor fit and finish quality amongst many things . I loved the performance but they can do better , and should do better . But $$$ rules.
@27Zangle
@27Zangle Жыл бұрын
I love the way Polaris looks but all you ever hear is the negative from people and there is enough of the negative to make people step back and look at other brands. With that, I really want a Polaris but will likely purchase a KQ or even a nice used sport quad for a project bike, I did tons of research on Polaris before making that decision. I found that the best thing to do is go through the ATV before riding it, over grease everything and tighten all the bolts, buy new bushing and replace them as needed or right away before riding, and finally, there is a company that makes a grease kit that allows you to grease the bearings on the Polaris without having to completely tear down the ATV, and having watched some videos of people use that kit on their new Polaris with some or most taking 10+ squirts in each bearing, Polaris is sorely lacking the grease they should have from the factory. For the money paid, Polaris should have way better quality control. I've seen a few 570's about 2017-2020 come up for sale around here recently and they have about 5k miles on them. Too many miles for my taste on a used Polaris, but it shows they can last.
@joekearney
@joekearney Жыл бұрын
@@27Zangle Very good assessment ! Yea I agree it’s inexcusable about the dry wheel bearings issue . After owning one Polaris in the late 90s to 2000 I gave them a second chance on a 2019 1000 and the writing was quickly on the wall that QC was still a major long run issue . The KingQuad obviously does not ride as smooth and isn’t as fast , but it’s built far superior and silky smooth.

Please start adding more info. I mention this regularly. We know what it looks like, we know the engines, we know all the standard stuff. What we don't know as buyers in your reviews are common brand issues to be mindful of, venting locations so we can account for geographical riding conditions like trail flooding and being able to pass through trails. Great reviews, but like all offroad channels, they could use more real world useful info for buyers. If one can't afford extra maintenance, them maybe they should steer clear of Can-Am and Polaris with the regular suspension greasing, or a big bore that may need more oil changes, or like Polaris where there is 4 oils to a change.

As weve said many times before, we cant comment on long term durability or reliability. We have these machines for a year and while they get alot of miles in that year, we cant simulate multiple years of useage. On top of that, we will NEVER report on other peoples information. What you hear in our videos is our honest, first hand accounts of what WE experience. Your suggestions about things like venting locations and other specifications like that are interesting though. The S models are not competitors for the XP models. The S models are totally unique in the industry. Due to their huge increase in width, they can not be considered an actual step UP from an XP. Weve tested them and they are awesome. But a person shopping for a Sportsman XP isnt the same customer thats buying an S.

Thats still true but it has to be taken in context. The S model is physically bigger so it doesnt fit on tight ATV trails the way the XP does. It also makes it a little less convenient when it comes to utility useage. If your looking for ultimate performance and suspension, the S is the way to go. But if your looking for an ATV to do traditional ATV stuff... with other guys who have normal sized ATVs, the XP might be a better choice.

@@pavmentsurfer13 I do everything with my ATVs….hunting recreational riding, working, cutting trails in the bush etc. considering all of that I figured the S was still the way to go. Does that make the Polaris less impressive? Honestly, does it matter ONE BIT who had a feature first? IMO, Not at all. The overall user experience of any vehicle is not dependant on weather or not it had certain features before, or after its competition. The competition would simply have had an edge in a direct comparison in the years they had the features the others dont.

How is it in performance mode? I currently have a 2020 outlander 850 and I hate the drive-by-wire throttle. Even in performance mode with the performance key it doesn't hit near as hard as the previous 2019 850 with the cable throttle. Wondering if Polaris has the drive-by-wire better than can-am?
@pavmentsurfer13

polaris's drive by wire is absolutely superior to can ams system. Its basically invisible meaning it FEELS like your riding with a cable throttle. I really dont like the abrupt and jumpy throttle response and clutching can ams big bore ATVs have had over the years. Polaris's performance mode provides far more immediate throttle response... to the point id say it feels a bit jumpy. Which again, I dont like. But, if thats yoru thing, it seems like youd probably like the performance mode on the sportsman.

Power to weight ratio is where a machine like the grizzly for example tops all these big power house useless machines . Consumers need dependable, reliable equipment for the mega amounts of dollars spent , and in my opinion Polaris is neither of those ....but it is over priced Thanks for the great video review and thanks for your time

It definitely will spin the tires on command pretty much anywhere. But the power delivery is much softer and smoother than the Can Am. Polaris has opted for more mellow clutching, which I VERY MUCH prefer VS Can Am who clutches their big more ATVs very aggressively. Sure, the aggressive clutching feels good when your TRYING to spin the tire or lift the front wheels (Both things the Polaris WILL do on command mind you) but when you just want spend a long day trail riding, the Polaris clutching is far more liveable.

@@Dreamscythe1 I’ve never driven a cfmoto but it has half the travel of an xp 1000 s, I’ve driven or owned a 21 outlander xt-p with fox shocks, 2018 Outlander XT, the sportsman xp 1000 s, 21 Outlander XMR, 21 HighLifter, honda, Yamaha grizzly they all varied in quality but none of those compare to my scrambler, as far as the 850 scrambler, other than it shares the model name, comparing them is like apples to oranges
@Dreamscythe1
@Dreamscythe1 Жыл бұрын
@@XMR_King ah i didn't realize you meant the S thats my bad. i can see it riding quite well. my cfmoto does have less travel than my 850 scrambler, i think it may be because on the 850 polaris cheaped out and put there plain jane shocks on it now trying to make people buy the 1000. the cf moto has house brand shocks but they are 3 way adjustable with reservoirs so that is probably why i find it rides quite a bit better

That 90s looking shifter has got to go. Canam style shifter and this would be perfect imo.
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 Жыл бұрын
In actual hands on useage, I prefer this one. The Can Am shifter works fine, but its not as smooth or easy to use under load as the Polaris shifter. I agree though, polaris could probably style their shifter a bit better. Ill take function over form any day though.

a note on the tires, my friend has the xp ultimate and same tires and wheels, they do work good at first but in less than a year his are already completely worn out and are horrid, there at about 45% tread id say right now and cant get grip in anything need replaced already. so yeah good tire for a bit but very quickly needs replaced. must be really soft or cheap rubber or something
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 Жыл бұрын
Without knowing how many miles he's ridden or what conditions he was riding in, its hard to validate this claim. I will say, that when run on alot of roads, the polaris tires do seem to wear quite quickly. But this is always the trade of of a tire with a softer rubber compound. Great traction, but less life. I suspect this plays a role in what your friend has experienced.

I might be the minority...but I cant stand these giant, heavy ATV's. Im a bigger guy, but I miss the old Bayou's, Big Bears, 2wd utility ATVs that you could push out a mudhole by yourself and bomb over any log cuz they were bullet proof and simple/less stuff to break. I actually had more fun driving my buds Brute Force 300 that he bought for his kid than I did his SP 1000.
