The disadvantage of the collar-backward bit ejection drivers is that if you insert one of these in a tool belt etc you may accidentally eject the bit. Many years ago I bought a Klein Switch Drive which has collar-backward bit ejection that makes it *disgustingly* easy to drop bits. I used it maybe once and put it away for good. CentroFix is the best.

Collar forward helps if you’re the type to use your screwdriver to knock holes into drywall, your bit won’t jump out and fall into the wall. But the pull backwards type is definitely easier to use as far as memory use especially if you use a Dewalt impact driver.

JIS bits are great for working on a lot of Shimano stuff (bicycle gears and, I'm guessing, fishing reels). These days hex bolts are more common but there's still plenty of bikes using them...Regards the two Hazet chucks near the end, IMHO it makes sense to have a pull mechanism on a small handled driver because you can put the butt in the middle of your palm and pull the clutch open one handed. On a longer handle most non-basketball players can't do that, so depending on the contour of the grip it might be easier to release the clutch by pushing it away from the butt.

You could try making C6 bits from E6 bits by placing them in your mini lathe and then mounting a dremel with a cut off wheel to the post holder of the lathe to cut off the end of the E6 bits. It would even be possible to grind in the small retention groove if you wanted to do so. FYI, I 3D printed the post holder mounting bracket for my dremel.

Is it possible to move the locking mechanism/collar onto longer blades from WIHA? I'm amazed at how few manufacturers use multi-bearing designs for quick-change chucks, so it's nice to know there is at least one option that is made without slop being sold as a 'feature', but they only come in one length.

Very interesting finding with poor runout of the centrofix adapter. That said the chucks on the Milwaukee Fuel drills are not very good either. Or at least the ones I have used. Typically 0.010" run out at on a bit at 2" distance from the chuck tip. So you may be able to "index" the adapter to the drill chuck and end up better than either is on their own.

Thanks for the great video. Very helpful. I just ordered the Wera rapidapter bit holder set and also one of their ratchets. Instantly unimpressed with how much play there is between the holder and bit. They went straight back in the box to be returned. I'm trying to order the Wiha centrofix holders and some bits, or one of the 35 piece sets. I can't seem to find anyone with any stock. I've tried searching German suppliers as well (I'm in the UK) It feels very much like they've discontinued making them and/or the blades. There's an EU seller via Amazon that is selling the centrofix holders but I'm not sure about buying without any way to source the blades. Do you happen to know if this is a tool/set that they are phasing out? Thanks for any feedback.

Hi bzeug. Just got my Wiha Centrofix bit holder in the post. Ordered via Amazon UK. Shipped from Germany to the UK. It has the Wiha logo moulded into the handle in red rather than the white printed version, so maybe that's the stock the stock they have in Germany? All I can say is... Wow! Night and day difference between the Wiha Centrofix and Wera's Clickfix. Just tried a few of the Wera bits in the Wiha holder. Barely any discernible play. Feels almost like a 'regular' screwdriver. The price dropped a tiny bit since I ordered so I'm thinking I might order another as a spare in case they discontinue them.I did reply to your reply to my previous comment but it vanished. I was asking if there is much to chose between different brands for the bits/blades side of things, and if there was any particular brand you'd recommend. Quality seems so variable these days so I figured it'd be silly not to ask. Thanks again for showing these Wiha holders. Probably wouldn't have tried them otherwise. 👍

Just came across your great video as I am looking for a bit adapter like the ones you reviewed at 8:40. I am after one that doesn't wobble, but from this video I couldn't conclude what you would recommend as most of the CentroFix ones seem to wobble. I notice you said the CentroFix Force doesn't wobble much, however after looking at the Wiha webite the C6 bits seem to insert quite deeply with the CentroFix Force such that you don't have great visibility when using it. Are you able to recommend a bit adapter that doesn't wobble, and where the C6 bit doesn't sit in the adapter so deeply?
@bzeug
@bzeug Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I am not able to recommend a bit adapter as good as the Wiha CentroFix adapter could have been. I know that is disappointing. I also would not buy another CentroFix Force for pretty much the same reasons you gave. You'd have to find a Wiha distributor you can work with and buy a CentroFix adapter, see if it wobbles, maybe it won't be bad, and if it is bad return it or exchange it and so on until you get a well made example.

I don't suppose you first, brought the....warped? matter of the adapters to Wiha's attention? and I don't suppose you know if they've addressed this in any event? I'm wondering if this was on purpose, though it seems unlikely, but no more unlikely that this error escaped their attention in the first place......

Could you see if your Wiha and Hazet bit drivers securely hold C6 bits? I ask because I can pull out a C6 bit out from my 810BHK holder; however, my 810BH will hold them securely. This becomes an issue I've found when using C6 hex to square drive adapters for sockets. When I go to change out a socket, the adapter will come out of the 810BHK holder. I wonder if your 810BHK has the same issue. Also, is this an issue with the Wiha especially because it does not have the ball detents located on the corners.

I have this bit holder but it's also badly seated in the handle even more than what you've shown in adapters it's annoying even with short bits. As much as the holder is solid it is extremely annoying for it to be bent as much.
@Sffker
@Sffker Жыл бұрын
Please explain why “play” between the bit, and the holder, really matters. It seems more of, an opinion, almost knitpicking, to critique the angular misalignment of the two. In what situation, would a few degrees of movement reduce the efficacy of using the tool for the intended purpose? for a bit 3-4” long? Or less? Hence, why that play is, for the most part, rather irrelevant. If the bit stays in the holder, and isn’t so bad it’s like a wobble extension, don’t see it. My wera 27ra has slight movement, but in no circumstance in which I’d ever use it, do I see a detriment of such misalignment/movement. The only thing I can see people complaining about it, about, is for more “tool snob” purposes.

Thank you for going to the trouble of making this informative video for us. Much appreciated. What I haven’t found on KZfaq (and you are the man for this) is a how to when a situation comes up where you want to create the coved or wedge shaped relief in the hex shank of a bit that activates the holding system of the holder. Like if you decide to cut off a bit for some reason but that destroys the original end portion of the bit that triggers the locking mechanism. I seem to come across that situation quite a bit with my widely varied professional and amateur pursuits. Can you explain the specs in general and function of various bit holder types enough that will enable the well meaning diy enthusiast to learn by destroying…no. I mean by trying? New subscriber Steve

Does centrofix work with double ended Japanese bits or only single ended ?
@bzeug
@bzeug 7 ай бұрын
Somewhat. The Double Ended slender type are a little wobbly so for those I would say no. The double ended bits that are not slender at the tip have just a slight wobble and are fairly stable. I would say those are usable in the Centrofix.

The Centrofix is also my favorite bit holder. However, the Wera Rapidaptor has one advantage: even with the bit inserted, the case can still be rotated freely. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the Centrofix. Is it the same with yours? Greetings from Germany

On my centrofix with no bit inserted the sleeve rotates. With a bit locked in, the sleeve is difficult to rotate but it can be rotated against the friction.

So I have about four rapidaptor holders they a big improvement on the simple magnetic holders I have used for years. I notice Festool have now used them on their own kit rebranded I believe. I was wondering if you know about the festool hand screwdriver but holder it appears to be the same holder as the wiha looks the same anyway. I’m not too impressed with the slop on the wera rapidaptor bit holders but I’ll continue using them till I get either the wiha clickfix or the festool version. I wonder if you could do a comparison of festool and wiha bit holders and maybe confirm if they are the same part… great channel btw
