@@labrynianrebel not exactly. Her party killed the demon king. We don't know how it went down beyond that they were all needed.

@@Ryodraco Also, them beating the Demon King doesn't imply they were necessarily stronger in an absolute sense, it's often more of a rock paper scissors situation; the Hero's party might have simply been the paper to the Demon King's stone. (For instance Frieren herself said they were unable to defeat Kval, thus having to resort to sealing him, and given how demons seem to work it seems safe to assume that Kval wouldn't have been able to beat the Demon King, otherwise _he_ would have been the big boss.)

@@mbpobletThats is very true. Tho they were on a 10 year journey and most likely grew a lot a long the way. So by the time they reached the demon king they might have been able to kill kval. But who knows

There's very good evidence that Himmel was going around and being heroic up until the end. Remember how he visited Qual for checkups regularly. (There may be more than just that but that would be SPOILERS)

This scene always seemed really interesting to me, because even though they later show us how deceptive demons can be through Lügner, that demon kid in the flashback didn't particularly seem to be deceitful but rather heartless/emotionless with the exception of the whole "mom" bit, as it was shown that it acted upon the mother's bloodlust. I love that Frieren as a series doesn't try to fall into the cliche of "demons are actually good because they look humanish", however considering the quality of the writing in this series, if that concept is ever explored then it just makes me wonder how they would go about it. Like, could demons become part of a human society if they're taught to respect societal values? Or instead would there be some deviants due to how evolution works? What about half-demons if it is even possible for humans and demons to reproduce? There's just a lot of room for exploration when it comes to such a well-built fantasy world

@@javierflores09 demons are presented as simply not having the capacity for empathy, guilt, etc. and since killing humans is part of their base instincts, they are simply incompatible with other sapient races long term as it seem impossible for them to live alongside humans and not at least sometimes kill them. Whether they could change or not is something that is explored in some detail, but suffice to say it is extremely unlikely.

@@javierflores09 I always look at them as having their own feelings and patterns of behavior, but are completely unable to understand why humans feel the way they do. Eg: "Why are you still so upset? I got you a brand new kid to replace your dead one. Get over it!" There are of course ones like Lugner who are just a-holes.

@@javierflores09 Yeah, the demon kid offering the bereaved mother a "replacement" daughter acquired by killing the village chief and taking his daughter was clearly not some kind of lie or deception, it was literally just the demon following the logic of: 1. bereaved mother wants me dead; 2. need to replace the dead daughter; 3. village chief has a daughter; 4. kill chief, take daughter, give to mom; 5. Now everyone in the village will like me and not kill me. Profit! And then the demon was totally confused when this perfect plan somehow backfired.

5:16 "Now we know her age." We get a hint of her age in episode 1 when she says that the 10 year journey wasn't even 1/100th of her lifetime. So she's over 1000 years old.

You know what the cool thing is? We constantly see flashbacks of how Himmel was as a person, how kind he was, funny with his jokes etc. etc. BUT we haven't yet seen how powerful he actually is! He is the lead of the party that defeated the Demon King, he is the guy who is THE Hero, he is HIM xD so this guy is not only funny, kind, handsome BUT also quite strong! HE IS HIM

Yeah, I keep reading how all of the four party members were really exceptional. It's easy to get the impression that Frieren is just so badass (which she is!), so she just carried the rest of them but from what I gathered from other comments is that they were all "geniuses" (to use the term Frieren uses later on) in their own respective areas and at similar power levels.

Realize that the demons were so fucking scared of Himmel the Hero, that they all waited until he was dead before even beginning to try to reestablish their power. Like even though he was a little old man, they still wouldn't dare come out of hiding.

The opening in genius once you get into the series and that final shot is indeed incredible and is probably my favorite shot of tte opening. Start of the first arc! Enjoy!

The only thing that felt weird, or rather sad, to me was the fact that Frieren is facing the" past", rather than looking into the "future". But maybe I was reading it wrong and it suppose to show her position in both parties, as one who followed the hero in the past and who is leading new party now.

I never quit get why so few people recognize her. Elves are pretty rare to begin with, there are statues of her all over, and she's been wearing the same outfit for like 100+ years.

Had you really not listened to the OP yet? It's SO good - I recommend checking out the full version. It's by Yoasobi, who also did the OP for Oshi no Ko (which is even more amazing if you know anything about pop idol culture in Japan). There is something interesting in that the demons began acting up and Aura's powers returned after Himmel died. I suspect it will be revealed when we finally see the party of heroes climactic battle with the Demon King, but I think that something about Himmel being alive held them in check.

It seems to me like even an old Himmel close to death, still scared the shit out of all those demons so they'd rather hide than try to be confronted by him. Should give you an idea just how powerful he was or at least what the demons perceived him to be. 😉

We know that Flamme lived a thousand years ago... I don't remember if they say this again in the show so you should know it by now. We don't know Frieren's age but probably around 1500 at most.

Nah, if himmel knew he wouldnt take the risk. He just didnt know as frieren did.

Himmel definitely didn't knew it, otherwise he would do things differently. He was a kind guy, but not very smart, he didn't realize that demons don't speak the same language, that they have different culture, etc. And the saddest thing is that the demon child really tried to find some peaceful life there, at least for a couple of years, but misunderstanding ruined everything.
