A scene from HBO's new miniseries "Chernobyl" Episode 2: Please Remain Calm. I have included the Korean translation, which was done by myself. I do not own any of the footage. All credit's go to HBO, The creator Craig Mazin, and the cast crew.
You can watch the series on the HBO homepage: play.hbonow.com/
In April 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics becomes one of the world's worst man-made catastrophes.
Creator: Craig Mazin Stars: Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård, Jessie Buckley

@Raptor747

No, the radiation is what killed them. The rotor hitting the cable was merely the straw that broke the camel's back--you can see how the entire tail of the helicopter just breaks in half even though it hadn't hit anything. That's intense radiation causing severe metal fatigue in seconds, such that it takes hardly anything to cause the aircraft to just break like it's made out of tissue paper. The reason the pilots hit the cable in the first place was probably because they were feeling deeply unwell in the mere seconds they were over the reactor.

Yes, the show shows them hitting the cables but with the smoke and static they are making implications that it was the radiation that caused the crash, when in reality radiation had nothing to do with causing the crash.
@ramjb
@ramjb 5 жыл бұрын
@@dickcaughtinfan9764 Radiation probably had a lot to do with it. The crash happened during the construction of the concrete containment vessel, the sarcophagus, to cover the open reactor. Helicopter pilots had to do repeated flyovers around the reactor building many times per day. Pilots who took part on it are on record commenting about the fatigue adding up, result of the many flighs. But most of them also talk of feeling severe dizzyness, probably caused by the constant exposure in a heavily irradiated airspace. The real crash happened when a Mi-8 flew too close to a crane, the rotor hitting the cables. While we'll never know the true cause of the accident, for sure both fatigue and cumulative radioactive exposure had a part on it. So indeed it did have a lot to do with causing the crash.

Show mixes order of events, but Mykola Melnyk, Ukrainian pilot for Soviet AF flew 46 sorties including during Chernobyl disaster and earned Hero of Soviet Union for that. He died 2013. Most likely surviving that crash was worse news as there would not be rescue attempt and even if injured crew managed to crawl out to safety they would probably be lethally irradiated.

33 years. 33 megawatt final recorded output. Lots of 33s. Did you know that Chernobyl is Ukrainian for wormwood? In the book of revelations a comet called Wormwood explodes and poisons a third of the planet. Many in Russia believe that Chernobyl was western sabotage designed to collapse the USSR. What if the graphite tips and power surge effects were not design flaws but features? What if the plant management had been turned and were working for Western security, and had set up the reactor channels in such a way that insertion of the control rods at the crucial moment would lead to an explosion by design? @@forestdenizen6497 another theory no one likes to talk about is that some tops in the civilian government of the Ukranian part of USSR were stealing the energy to secretly trade to the west; now, the experiment (which led to explosion) was controlled by soviet defense department, notorious for their secrecy, they were trying for the nuclear station's cooling mechanisms to work even without outside power (in case of attack for example), powering from itself. Imagine this: daytime, nuclear power plant works as usual; nighttime: the board and sensors would show supposed amount of the current flow, while in reality, say, 100megawatts would be sent somewhere else; thus you'd see 140mwts on the board, but if you try to set the flow lower, say, to 40mwts, you would get 40-100 instead of 140-100... Which would result in what?

1. The actual helicopter crash occured on October 2nd, not in conjunction with the firefighting in the immediate aftermath of the disaster. It was many months later, and by this point there was no fire, and the sarcophagus was already under construction. 2. The helicopter in question (Mi-8, numbered "30") was not dumping sand or boron or anything of the sort. It was actually applying a PVA (polyvinylacetate) glue to some parts of the upper structure to seal any remaining contaminated dust in, so that it could be removed safely before they assembled the upper parts of the sarcophagus. 3. Radiation levels in the air above the structure were negligible at this point. What caused the helicopter to crash was that it struck some crane wires, the cranes that were assembling said sarcophagus. The pilot got disoriented for a moment due to sun glare and got too close to the crane. 4. The (original) footage was captured by a news crew from West Siberian News (the cameraman was Victor Grebenyuk), and was never lost or anything. PS. this HBO stuff and all the meme-ing is getting kind of tiresome. Yeah, it's a great dramatic series, but they took a looooot of artistic liberties.

Legasov was the personification of human instinct during that crisis. With all the knowledge he had to stop this, well more like prevent it from being worse than it should have been, the one thing that prevented him from executing effectively was his idea that one life was worth more than every life. He kept trying to save those who were working so hard to prevent it from spreading, not realising that every life that tried was a thousand more lives saved.

I just realized they actually got the helikopter crash right. Yes the timestamp for the crash was way off since it happened many months later but they wanted it in the show. I did read an article about this show Where they said the helikopter crashed because it hit the wires of a crane. Not because of radiation as seen in the show. If you look at this scene again it hit the crane. You see the basket at the end of the crane cable fall and a metallic sound. The helikopter in this show crashed because it hit the crane not from radiation. So the guy that wrote that article was wrong!

King Wacky How would a helicopter crash because of radiation? Radiation does not destroy. It mutates. And that process takes a lot of time. The heli crashed because of the cable And the smoke was just so they could make the timeline more fitting. The real accident was 6 months after the fire and there was not smoke. Simple miscommunication led to this. Always look out for frauds is the first rule of those kind of operations.
