Here’s hoping Fathom has some great rereleases as I had a fantastic time seeing Gone With The Wind, Smokey and the Bandit, and The Mummy. The last Hollywood current release I saw was Napoleon and yeah…I still want my money back 😂 But as for new releases so far I’ll stay home with my physical media etc. Since Hollywood brought this fresh hell on itself…well, yeah. 😊

I've become so apathetic to movies and TV. Remember when a great movie or show came out and we sat in eager anticipation for the next chapter? Now I dread when a good movie or show gets a next chapter, as more often than not it isn't good and I feel awful for being excited.

I put a chart in the Discord that shows the net profit for the top 20 movies this year. Kung Fu Panda is presently #1. The interesting thing that I found was that if you consider profit only, the profitable movies have made almost one billion while the non profitable ones have lost over two billion. That's nearly double.

I've gone from seeing 2 to 3 movies a month to 2 a year .... prices and Quality are what's stopped me and my friends going to the cinemas ... Most of us having 75" TV's or bigger and this makes it less likely to shell out money for a movie we could watch with friends at someone's home.

Ugh! Why does EVERY movie need to be a sequel and a tent pole movie? When going to the movie theater was enjoyable, it wasn’t like this, and there were even small and medium budget pictures that had actual substance to them and audiences were entertained by them. That is all long gone, and will NEVER return to movie theaters because that is now the domain of streaming services.

We just lost one of the biggest legends in film history (RIP Roger Corman), and I'd like to hope that at least a few people in Hollywood will really stop to reflect on how he made and produced movies. Were they *good* movies? Not necessarily, but they sure are a hell of a lot of fun. I'd certainly rather watch his version of Fantastic 4 than whatever Disney has planned, because they don't make fun movies anymore.

Back in 2022, the grifters tried to hype up The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars by leaking their synopses. The meat of the leak was the plot of Secret Wars. Apparently the TVA rebel against Kang and rally a band of multiversal heroes (the Fox and Sony characters) to stop him. Tobey Maguire, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were the main stars. Now, with Majors' dismissal, the threat of Kang was nipped in the bud with Loki controlling all the timelines now. That means these movies will be retooled like Hell. But I can still see Disney banking on the sheer amount of fanservice that is Robert Downey Jr, Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman meeting up with each other. That will get bums in seats.

The “crazy” bit is a significant issue for me: I try to see movies in theaters, but just about every time, someone is talking through the show: I even had someone making a FaceTime call the other week. And since the theaters are so understaffed and the kids left in charge lack the will to stand up to their objectionable customers, forget any chance of anything being done about it. Much as I love the big screen, it’s hard to justify paying the money when you can’t even enjoy the movie in peace.

They need to allow people to rent out theatres. They started using them for business meetings which is great, but I think Netflix theatres will be a thing in the near future. Places people can gather with others and watch a movie or series together (as long as prices are reasonable). Add in some decent arcade cabinets and you have a million dollar idea.
@PORCHMANKEY

Adding on to that. Watching things with strangers can be annoying and no one wants to deal with the dregs of society ruining their movie experience. Gatekeeping showings will get people to go out to theatres again.

Thanks for this video and you cover most of the points. Here is an additional one: The TV sets at home are getting bigger and bigger. A friend of mine has just bought a 77‘ TV. In the last decades we had in average smaller tv sets and now we have home theater experiences. Secondly we have a drop in Projector prices and now you can purchase an entire 150‘ set for less than 5k. The movie quality is getting worse and prices are increasing continuously. With the economic downturn, and the other reasons, it makes no sense to go to the cinema. This is an unstoppable trend and only the cinemas with an outstanding service or the best price-service fit will survive.

The theaters should try and experiment and have certain cities lower the movie prices to making very little, based on the average foot traffic. Advertise that they are lowering prices in that city. See if they can make up money other ways. I was kind of thinking about this for disney theme parks, look at the average foot traffic from 1 year ago exactly and then lower the prices to making only $1-2 per person. See if that would increase foot traffic thereby possibly making more money.

Thank you for the video! It's sad to see movie theaters circling the drain. I remember when people were lamenting the death of the drive in movie theater. I had never been to one myself, but the town I had just moved to had had one for decades. The owners sold the land to real estate developers, and a new housing subdivision was built there. 1. Could the companies who own movie theaters can recoup some of their losses by selling their real estate? 2. Also, I don't understand the link between Hollywood and movie theaters. a) Are any of the theater chains owned by Hollywood studios? b) How much does a movie theater earn from a tremendous success like Barbie? c) Does the individual theater or regional manager of a chain have a choice as to how many screens each theater will devote to a movie? For example, say somebody incompetent in charge of a theater decided they were only going to show Barbie on one screen once a day. That would kind of be that theater's fault for not utilizing more screens, wouldn't it? i) Are they contractually obligated to show movies that are not attracting customers? 3. Can the theaters sue: a) Hollywood studios for making such poor movies that the customers won't attend theaters? (It might be difficult to prove this in court lol. Maybe if there were evidence that all the focus groups said this movie is terrible, but the studios refused to make the changes the focus group advised. Jennifer Salke of Amazon Studios admitted to stopping using focus groups because they were not providing the responses she wanted to hear. 🤣) b) And/or can they sue the studios because streaming is taking away their customers? 4. Can Hollywood re-release movies? I have a feeling if Star Wars OT and LOTR were shown in theaters, people would go and would bring their kids. All the studios must have tons of massively successful movies from the past that they could re-release for PROFIT. Imagine re-releasing the Disney animated and classic Pixar movies for an entirely new generation of kids? I can only imagine that the theaters would love this. Thank you for the video! How's Frank? 🙏😁🐻🎥🎞️🎬

Who wants to go out and sit in some dingey flea pit with absurdly overpriced snacks with half the audience rustling chip packets and the other half swiping through their phones..... Streaming is still coming out of it's infancy. Prices are going up and they are causing many such as myself who enjoyed having streaming services to say screw it this is not worth the constant price hikes and oh yeah now you want to ad commercials. Ahhh cable I thought I could leave you and now I want to come back. Now netflix has to resort to making a deal with the NFL to broadcast Christmas games. Look for streaming to consolidate. I don't see all of them making it....ie peacock and paramount +. I am still that guy who buys movies on 4K blu ray. People will soon learn they sold their soul for the "convenience" of streaming. I'd barely been to the cinema since 2019. Nothing that's interested me enough to bother. But this year there have been quite a few I've gone to watch (Godzilla Minus 1, Godzilla X Kong, Ghostbusters 4, Planet of the Apes). Though I have loads of free tickets so haven't actually paid.

I miss the violent drama. I went to see LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL and ABIGAIL in the theaters. The next movie I'm going to see is THE DEAD DON'T HURT with Viggio Mortinsen. He directed it as well.

Like you said it’s just the quality. You have to be selective with going to the theaters. Every time I go it’s packed. Ppl still go. 80% of the movies just aren’t worth it. And not in demand. Who asked for a mad max prequel? Who asked for a twister sequel? Lol cmon. Horrible writing generic tropes and pushing agendas are the main issues too. The extremely high budgets aren’t helping either. The strike really didn’t change anything lol. And on top of tht. 2024 is just a slow yr. Hollywood basically told us the big titles are all coming in 2025.

Joker 2 will be interesting to see if it's successful or not. Many (myself included) can't stand musicals so it's instantly unwatchable for me. Also a lot of people went to see the first film expecting something very different from what they got so may not return for the sequel. Harley Quinn fatigue is a thing too.

The demise of the mid budget movie is partially responsible for the lack of quality, cinema audiences are only paying to see the dazzling effects of big budget films in the cinema.

Hollywood needs to make fresh content with reasonable budgets; that is where fresh content comes from. These bloated sequels marinating in bad CGI are what's killing the industry. They need to drop prices, slow the release of films to streaming platforms, and make creative content that doesn't need a billion dollars to break even. Failing that, they will continue to make woke crap at inflated prices and kill the theaters for good.

I agree. Making movies with reasonable budgets that are like, half of 100 million dollars, and saving leftover budget money to market it well are an easier-said-than-done, but not hard to do strategy that has been tried and true for many singular hits of the 1980s and 1990s. No one has proven that making movies that way is straight up _outlawed_ in today's Hollywood climate, but original properties are also not a dead art form that has everyone giving up on it. These days, romantic comedies and other movie genres that do not seem like a big spectacle for the big screen are usually relegated to streaming services, since it is difficult for non-horror films with a low budget to compete with big blockbuster franchises, but there are some outliers who try to make it. IF is a light comedy-drama-fantasy film for PG audiences that has a budget of 110,000,000 dollars and sold up to 1,149,917 dollars above that amount in Canada and US, but it did not sell well for international markets and came up very short of breaking even with only 186,715,020 dollars total. I am very thankful that my mom and I watched this film at our local Penn Theater to be part of those ticket sales. IF did not come close to breaking even, but since it was John Krasinski's passion project and he already made tons of money from his A Quiet Place movie series, I am very sure that IF is not a huge financial loss for him when it made...84.87% of the money back necessary to break even. By contrast, The Beekeeper is a new action movie property for R audiences that turned a large profit because it was wise to only have a budget of 40,000,000 dollars. It made 26,220,535 more than its budget in Canada and US, and unlike IF, The Beekeeper performed awfully well in international markets to make a total of 152,720,535 dollars, so it was a big financial success that seems to have flown under the radar for premiering in January and making making almost four times its initial budget. The lesson to take away from my contrasting examples of mainstream films in 2024 is *not* that families with children who are below Cailey Fleming's age are not a profitable market for films that are mostly live-action. My point to make here is that Hollywood filmmakers can still do semi-original ideas with new properties that really sneak up on us compared to ongoing film franchises that announce production on sequels two years in advance, and they can be hits or misses depending on the sizes of their designated budgets. While The Beekeeper technically grossed less money than IF, it also turned out to be a more financially successful film because The Beekeeper made bigger profits in relation to its own budget since it was made for ~70 million dollars cheaper than IF. I read an article that said over half of action/adventure movies (basically the blockbuster) in the past 10yrs was a sequel/prequel. Pathetic that "writers" (or the studio, doesn't matter which) cant come up with an original idea/script anymore.

Hollywood needs to do away with the wacko politics and make good movies again. You will then may see people going back to the theater to see them.
