Hey Guys, back in Germany i did some work on the old Honda to get her back in shape and I'm telling you all about it in this Motovlog. But is the Dominator still a good enough bike to make a long Journey or go on big adventures? Will it break down? Does it even run well enough still? is it save? In my opinion, YES! I admire the Germans for their love of old bikes and how they demonstrate that people don’t have to buy the increasingly heavier and more expensive modern machines that are imposed on us by the industry. Nowhere else have I seen so many 80s, 90s bikes being used daily and so many of them are kept in almost showroom condition.

Hello from Portugal. Just found your channel last week. I have been thinking of making a few trips around my country and Europe, and i have been planning things since 2020. The bike i want to use is the same, a Dominator. Simple, reliable, no computers or sensors to go crazy. I am ok with the ocasional oil consumption on hot weather. Hope that the new trip to my country goes well, and that you enjoy your time here.

I've got 31 years old Yamaha XT 600. It's in a good shape and does everything enough well! 😃 Just regularly maintenance and the old thumper likes it. Its a good travel partner! Light and very usable bike. Nice video! 👍😎

Hi Marc, nice bike the dominator, I had one back in the early nineties, I love the “thumper” sound. It has one of the best engines ever built by Honda,still in production today after more than 30 years . In the States you can still buy the XR650 with this engine.

Hey!! Super nice to see such an old ADV bike still going strong, congratz! I have a very similar Dominator in blue, 1991, however its in a worse shape. Would be amazing if You share how You fix fairings, KZfaq lacks the content about Dominators so more videos are worth the time and energy. Have a good rest after the journey and keep up for the next! @@MarcTravels We had a ferry but for now there is no news that it will come again in the near future. I hope that it will come in the summer of 2022. It would be nice to take my ATAS to travel through Portugal. In the meanwhile you can see a little bit of Madeira island on my channel. Happy rides in 2022.

cant beat the old hondas i have had 3 xl 500 hondas 1979 model 81 and 84 so reliable and bullet proof i have got a honda ct 200 ag bike it still starts first time every time go the old honda 👍👍👍

Hey Marc, hope you enjoy and have fun on your trip to Portugal! Whatch out with the Portuguese TET, some parts are a little bit aggressive. I would advise perhaps to give a look at the ACT (Adventure Country Tracks) Portugal. It is more or less 50/50 offroad/onroad and it goes through some beautiful places just like TET but much more easy roads. Cheers from Portugal

Hi Marc. You should cover the muffler with high temperature paint,no primer required.Only then can stop the rust from the ouside..you are talented man,my respect.. Egidijus nx 650 dominator.

Hi Marc, I live in California and am recovering from knee surgery. I found your channel and just enjoyed your Eurotrip and Iceland Vlogs. You've never crashed or fallen over in all your video’s, so you're either an excellent rider, or an excellent video editor...lol. Now I have some comments: you never told us what happened with your cam-chain problem after the Eurotrip? The next video you at someone’s garage (your parents’ house? you never said), you added crash bars and other stuff, but you never a word about how you finally fixed the cam-chain problem. And how about during your long highway runs you tell us more about yourself, where you grew up, what you do for a living, maybe what you aspire to be…I’ll be watching your Portugal trip(s) next, you got me with your Vlog title about trading your Dominator, so glad you didn’t. I had a Honda XL175 growing up, loved it. Keep the channel going…

Hey mate, the videos you saw all happened before the Portugal Journey, so your questions will be answered in those videos🤗 and you’re right I never crashed with the Honda in 40.000km that I did on her. I think it’s because I don’t do extreme stuff, never go fast and trying to be focused on the road all the time, just an average rider😉 thanks for watching mate 🤙🏼

Hello 🙋 Here after this tour of Iceland you had to change the bearings preventively. You also had those water crossings there, etc. And there were no problems on the tour with Portugal. 😁🤝

I completely know what you mean by travelling with an old motorcycle. I am travelling by 19 year old car which is waiting in garage for another adventure. However, the rust may kill any cool old vehicle so it's very time consuming to keep it in good condition :) I will keep my fingers crossed for your another adventures :)

@@MarcTravels in Germany you can just bring it to the store you bought your old oil. Actually you could try taking it to any store that sells oil, I was never asked for a receipt, when I brought in old oil.

Hey Marc! You should try Bardahl engine oil. It is one of the best oils on the market and it is excellent for oldies. I use it both in my transalp and my vw golf mk2.

It's absolutely perfect for long journeys. You just ride a bit slower. 2,000 km between oil changes! I can't remember how long I left them with my XT500. I used to use anti-rust treatment like you use on a car I had in the late '70s. Worked well. I am going to watch all the videos I have missed. So much more interesting than watching someone ride a KTM 1290 or something dripping in unnecessary technology. Nick

Honda ist ein panzer ! Dominator ist eine Legende , ich denke dass Sie fehlt auf die neue preisliste ! Honda muss eine neue dominator machen. Aber auch die alteren dominator fahren noch weiter,und sehr gut ! Poca spesa,tanta resa ! ( wenig Aufwand viel Ertrag ) 👋🏻

Good job! Actually I don't mind to watch how and what you're doing with your bike. I mean long video working. Also I think you can make now one long film, like an hour, from your trip to Iceland. Best way to fix rather than replace .sometimes people just throw money at their bikes rather than fixing . More enjoyable when it doesn't cost a fortune .

Sometimes if you ask a company that has construction equipment, with like forklifts and loaders. If they will take the oil off your hands. They have dump bins that get pumped out. Maybe heavy equipment rental places too. Or sawmills. I've been using stainless steel oil filters, for 8 years. Great for changing oil during travels, or to never have to buy a filter again. I just wash it out with gas or use some soap and water. Gently blow it out with air until it's dry.

In Germany, it is totally easy to dispose the used oil. The seller who sold you the new oil is obliged to take back the used oil. I always buy my oil from Amazon and bring the used oil to "ATU" workshop, because they work together with Amazon.

I'm a proud owner of a 1990 Rd02 red Dominator from Italy and I'm going to put it on the road again after several years. I noticed you front main light is really white: did you change it with led or a brighter one? Thanks and compliments for you channel (I've just subscribed!).

Ciao Marc : Bel video La Honda Dominator ha tanto da offrire ancora, Motul 10/ w40 ottimo olio lubrificante, con clima freddo Ci sono utenti che con clima caldo usano 20/w60 con intervalli più lunghi tra una sostituzione e l'altra, la candela iridio non la devi spazzolare come quella normale se no si guasta. Filtro aria potresti utilizzare un K&N lavabile, anche se il suo originale trattiene tutte le polveri, ricordati di scaricare i tubi dei reflui (quelli vicino cavalletto sotto telaio ) Le plastiche purtroppo specie serie 1988/89 sono delicate dopo qualche anno di utilizzo , un punto delicato e spesso vibrazioni il (sotto cruscotto km e conta giri) si crepa vicino telaio faro anteriore, i terminali originali puoi utilizzare stucco epossidico per metalli versione ( pongo ) Verniciabile con vernici alta temperatura.. Ti volevo ricordare che la Dominator ha un filtro metallico per olio proprio dietro dado di scarico a telaio appena dietro nella giunta del tubo ...Ma trovi video dettagliati su you tube . io ho fatto due piccoli fori nei silenziatori per scaricare la condensa che si crea dentro, parte bassa prima del tubo che scende verso pedana, ti mando foto se avrò un indirizzo e-mail... il ragazzo Pavlin del canale di avventura in motocicletta usa 10w60 e giura su di esso e ha ridotto molto il consumo di olio a quanto pare, quindi potrei provarlo la prossima volta. Saluti

Thanks mate, much appreciated! I just change the oil on the Journey if it’s too long. But you also stretch out the interval a bit. You can see when the oil gets bad. Always depend on how you ride as well. Happy new Year, cheers Marc 🤙🏼

Hey bud I ride a 05 XR 650L which is the same motor basically the same bike as your Dominator very reliable . I'll say this quietly these older bikes are more reliable than these computer injected anti this ABS that have to download apps to fart. To much to break down just give us an old Honda and my XR still looks like a brand new 2022 bike actually my XR is far better looking than the new ones. GREAT VIDS ""RIDE ON""

It is a tractor. Vibrates. Sadly some idiot had taken the kicker out from mine, as it had electric too, and plugged the hole... badly. Lost all oil. Did not notice. Added oil, worked for a while. Blew up.

If your Dominator holds 2 lts of oil , 2 of my big singles holds 1.8 and 2 lts ( you can easy get 5000kms out off modern fully synthetic oils ) unless doing off road and depending on dust etc . My enduro 650 I change its oil around 2-3000 as it’s mostly off road around 85%. My 650 ADV bike every 5000 as it’s about 50/50 on off road. If it’s off road just keep air filter clean- buy a form one ☝️ ( carry a lubed spare ) I have tried most oils including Motul but found Motorex full synthetic seems to work the best .in Australia all our dumps ( or tips we call them take waste oil ) or put it in our rubbish collection bin ( not the recycle one ☝️) and also gets collected that . Some people bury it .

Yes I just did 4500km with motul and it was still okay. Now we put in full synthetic as well 10w50. The guy Portugal swears by it. Let’s see🙌🏼

sieht man bei nem Geländereifen nicht so stark, aber du fährst dir da grade ne Fläche auf den Hinterreifen (langes geradeaus fahren), der wird dann in Kurven sehr kippelig

Of course it is good for long trips. I use my 1983 BMW K100 or my 1994 Transalp 600 for long trips. It is just better for the simple reason that they are easier to repair, just in case...

different times now. things got faster, more automatic, less heavy etc. soon we won't be able to find gas either. the old machines are a beauty from the past, not only reminding us where we started from, but also capable of offering us all the excitement they were built to give. no need to compare with the modern machines. just keep them alive and enjoy them ( also much better for the environment than buying a new one)

I can't believe that even after this trip to Iceland, you used up your brakes! 👀 How is that possible? The brakes on mine bike are not even 50% worn after 25,000 km Do you maybe squeeze the clutch before the turn and don't brake with the engine? 🤔
