Join us as we dive into the world of TMNT collectibles, exploring the history, the excitement, and the rare gems that make this toy line so beloved among fans and collectors alike.
Meet "Vintage_Toyssss"
In this episode, we sit down with Vintage_Toyssss, a dedicated TMNT enthusiast whose love for these iconic characters has translated into a modest yet impressive collection. With a focus on quality over quantity, Vintage_Toyssss has curated a selection of toys that showcases some of the most sought-after pieces in the TMNT universe.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Toy Line from Playmates
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy line, produced by Playmates, first hit the shelves in 1988, riding the wave of the animated series' immense popularity. These toys quickly became a staple in the homes of children and collectors, captivating audiences with their vibrant designs, intricate details, and the rich lore of the TMNT universe.
From the original four turtles-Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael-to their iconic villains like Shredder and Krang, Playmates captured the essence of the TMNT world with remarkable accuracy. The initial wave of figures included not just the main characters, but also a range of supporting characters and unique variants, making it a diverse and exciting collection to chase.
Highlights of Vintage_Toyssss' Collection
As we tour Vintage_Toyssss' collection, we are treated to a fascinating array of TMNT figures. While the collection is modest in size, it boasts a few rare pieces that any TMNT fan would envy.
Original 1988 Figures: These are the crown jewels of the collection, featuring the first wave of TMNT figures in their original packaging. The vibrant colors and intricate detailing on these figures are a testament to Playmates' craftsmanship.
Rare Variants: Among the collection, we find some rare variants that were either limited in production or exclusive to certain regions. These variants often come with unique accessories and paint jobs, adding an extra layer of excitement for collectors.
Signed Pieces: A couple of figures are autographed by the original creators of the TMNT series, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. These signed pieces add a personal touch to the collection and highlight the deep connection between the creator and the fan community.
The World of Toy Collectors
Toy collecting is more than just a hobby; it's a passion that connects people across generations. For many collectors, toys are a way to relive childhood memories, preserve a piece of history, and share their love for a particular franchise.
Collecting toys like the TMNT figures from Playmates involves a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of the toy market, and a relentless pursuit of those rare and elusive pieces. It's a community-driven activity where collectors often share tips, trade figures, and support each other in their quest to complete their collections.
The Joy of Collecting
As we chat with Vintage_Toyssss, it's clear that his collection is not just about the toys themselves but about the joy and nostalgia they bring. Each figure holds a story, a memory, and a connection to a beloved era of animation and storytelling.
For many collectors, the thrill of the hunt is as exhilarating as owning the figures. Whether it's scouring flea markets, attending toy conventions, or bidding in online auctions, the journey to find that perfect piece is a big part of what makes toy collecting so rewarding.

Good collection or bad collection?

Yeah, this was a nice change of pace, seeing a collection that's limited to one wall of display and someone who's much more modest and personal feeling gives a better idea of what collecting is actually like for most people I feel. Don't get me wrong, the big collections are cool to look at but in my experience they're more an exception then a rule.

Its a fine collection, even smaller ones are fine. I can admire massive collections but sometimes I think its becomes overwhelming. A lot of the collecting content I used to follow does not appeal to me as much as it used to, because is simply " here is how much money I spent at the store". But the story about his Dad giving him a Leo is great.

He has a healthy collection. It is all nicely displayed and he can see everything he owns. I think when it is boxed up and you cant see it for any length of time, what is the point of owning it.

Good collection, he seems focused on what’s important to him and has limits set. I wish I could say the same for myself 😂 Was hoping for a little longer interview but still a fun mini episode. Feel better!

Great video. Nothing here looks outta control or unhealthy. As the proud owner of the WORLD'S BIGGEST,BEST AND RAREST MICHAEL JORDAN TOY COLLECTION, and MJ's toy historian, I can personally understand a specific passion and toy line. My collection is definitely more specific and obsessive, no one else in the world does what I do and that's what it's about .......following YOUR own passion. I live in Perth, Western Australia. One of the most remote cities in the world and given the subject of my collection. It should've been American story and collection though I'm grateful it's not. I've spent over 100k and am 9 years deep into it so far. I've has alot of local and international media exposure with this collection (GOOGLE- MICHAEL JORDAN'S RAREST TOY) and believe in research, preservation and education. I give inspirational chats to youth here regarding following your passion and have reached from here, several people close to mj in my attempts to have a meeting with the man himself hopefully soon. No small feat given his stature and geographical distance from my location. Yet it's that very challenge I thrive on and work towards. My priorities remain with my family and relationships however this is a true passion and God given purpose that I keep working on and towards. This video of this collection is light, fun and seemingly meaningful in its own right to the collector himself. No harm no worries. Keep on collecting bro and enjoy it for what got you started. Peace 🏀🇦🇺👍💯

In my opinion is unhealthy when you start neglecting other important aspects of your life because of it, at simple glance it doesn't seem that way, but I don't know the guy to know for sure.

I think its a perfectly sized collection. Hes got quite a bit, but not out of control. Some of these massive collections I see just scream "I have a collection addiction". It takes self awareness and self control to keep it in check.

Do you remember an 80s toy...Sky Commandos? They were yellow and black vehicles that youd attach a string to one point and the other end to another point and the vehicle would fly across the string...like a zip line. I never see any of the toys at shows or conventions and ive only come across one other person who knew what i was talking about. But as an 80s kid, i always gravitated towards the weird, lesser known toy lines i.e. supernaturals, those Tonka Toys post apocalypse vehicles with figures, Boglins etc but i had a few of Sky Commandos. But yea, i never see any youtubers talking about them, never seen any at any toy shops ..its like they disappeared with Spiral Zone lol
