It's actually a very old trend. The first two Sentai were direct sequels of one another. And older series would have small nods and references to each other as well. For a long time Super Sentai was pretty much all but confirmed with a few exceptions to all be in the same universe with the versus movies being how old Dragon Ball Z movies were set up (Where they COULD happen but don't happen in the normal plot and even this has a few exceptions.) Heck in Zyuohger they were able to get one of their big power ups due to Gokaiger showing up. I think they moved away from the combined universe thing in Zenkaiger but then back peddled on it when they realized that a LOT of sentai alumni were willing to come back for episodes.

Honestly? I’m kind of glad with the crossovers. It makes Sentai feel more connected in general

Honestly, it was really fun to have the Kyoryugers come back in Kingohger. Get this: Deboss was an alien villain transversing the stars to conquer worlds: on a much smaller scale than Dugded turned out to be. Whilst that could make a connection to Kyuranger also, it built upon both themes of bravery and comradery that both Kyoryuger and Kingohger are known for. I hope to see a bit more connections as the team up movie is released, but Kyoryuger has more similarities to its kouhai than one may think.

Honestly, to me it felt nice to have the kyoryuger crossover eps. we already saw planets that Dugded had completely wiped, and showing a 2nd planet that's currently very much limping on against the galactic child felt like it helped with the sheer scale of his antics. There was also a little more foreshadowing to Gira's connection with Kuwagon, and it introduced the concept of the castle being a spaceship, which fit nicely considering the situation they were in. plus some implications that the Zyudenryu and Shugods might be cut from similar, if not the same cloth, with King Kyoryuzin being a thing, the Kuwagata Zyudenchi and Gira's "if he can do it, maybe it works for us too" way of communicating with Kuwagon. to me it felt like both sides benefitted from each other in different ways. And them already knowing each other could perhaps give a bit more room for interactions in the VS movie since most of the cast doesn't have to meet each other for the first time anymore.

Lady! They did the crossover between Kyoryuger and Kingohger perfect in show, and when Prince came back in ep 40 he hinted that Gira is turning evil in their crossover movie. And Yeah Ninnninger cameos made more sense, but Kingohger with Kyoryuger was handled it alot better. And the crossover between Kingohger and Donbrothers is going to be a mess, cause evrything with Donbrothers is a mess! And Kyoryuger cast schedules never linked for the crossover, they had the full cast for only 1day. And 1 day is not enough for it’s own movie And TTFC are special made randomly, and crossover movie is between 2newest sentai team, not for a team with 10 year apart

I feel like it depends on how set up. As long there planned in advance. While KingOgher was always planned to crossover. Kyroyuger was probably chosen due to it anniversary coming up. However, yeah they should choose teams that blend well with each other without clashing themes.

I feel Prince was mostly created to have a Kyoryu Red appear in the in-show team-up given like Utchy's actor, King's actor was busy at the time, and even then, King Kyoryu Red and the Gabutyra being able to combine with the King-Ohger mecha was Bandai's addition to justify it by having having some new toys out to go with before announcing Memorial Kyoryuger stuff. In fact, they've even said that there were plans for other versions of King-Ohger VS Kyoryuger were King's actor not free in time to come back, but by chance, there was one free day to make it so. As for it becoming a recurring trend, with me commenting on the weekend Sousuke and Speedor have appeared in Boonboomger, I don't really like it, feeling worn on team-ups in Toku especially with Gotchard having the "we wanted Masahiro but he said no" Legend, it feels more like an ad to help sell the Memorial Go-Phone than being a story helping appearance. But if they really want to do something with past Sentai characters, maybe they could do what they're doing with Kamen Rider and have an Outsiders-like show for it, call it Super Sentai Insiders just for the funnys too.

Ig it's a way to promote the old shows to new audiences so that they'll be interested in watching it

People opinion aside, i feel it's really cool that past sentai actors especially the one from showa era would make an appearance in the new sentai series. I feel like most sentai actors really like working for the series and always happy to return in some form unless they are too busy or already retired from acting while power ranger actor treat their time on the show like a embarasing black history they wished never existed.

The reappearance of old seasons justify the gimmick of legacy/legendary items to sell, which is something all Riders have been doing since Decade. Sentai Gimmicks have also started to introduce legacy season powers. Not as extensively as Riders have doing *every Rider every Season* but simmilarly enough. It's free boosting and free advertising for both the new show and the old show that is probably getting new content while recycling suits. The only issue this really highlights, in my opinion, is how every season has to take a stance on wether Sentai is recurring and canon to the same Earth, or different continuities. If all seasons happen in the same universe, there's no limit to who can cameo where, but then you have the issue of why old teams never help the new ones in the long run. If they don't, then you question the logic of every crossover. Also, the giant bugs and dinos, the theme there is Megafauna. Bugs coexisted with Dinosaurs and were also gigantic.

After having 48 different teams there are going to be less themes they can use and will reuse themes, but the important thing will be to show the difference between teams with similar themes. The crossover episodes will help with that. Side note: Having 2 different teams fight each other irritates me because the sentai world has a team every year that would be reported on the news. So a past team shouldn't jump to the conclusion that that the new team is the enemy and the new team should know about the old teams (if they are from earth).

If you ignore the movies, shinkenger got decade and a lot of succeeding sentai got kamen rider in one spring episode to promote the taisen movies. After gokaiger, go busters even got metal heroes gavan involved. Think ninninger did it with more variation like with jiraiya, ninja red, and hurricane red ranger. They even have magiyellow in one episode along with shurikenger. Kyuranger got dekaranger and gavan to promote their space squad avenger civil war like movie.

I don’t mind the cameos honestly. Recent Ultraman shows have past Ultras appear for an episode or two

I think the appearance of past teams during the currently airing Sentai is to boost toy sales. Kyoryuger and ToQger were heavily profitable for Sentai so bringing them back 10 years down the link just makes sense in the minds of executives. I could see the Akaninger or the Ninningers not appearing in next year’s Sentai just because Ninninger didn’t sell that well.

I'll give it a pass because, if it wasn't for the Kyroyugers we wouldn't have had the only full team Roll Call. :) I would state however that Ryusoulger X King-Ohger would have made more sense of a crossover.

To be honest, kyoryuger already did the crossover with past dino sentai just like ninninger did with past ninja sentai. It would be odd if they skip it out for this year car sentai. Also, red turbo, the first red of a car sentai season who's actor is also the singer for zyuranger is attending a lot convention. It would be nice to have him guest star in an episode as well. The odd thing is toqger is involved even though red, yellow, and green are kind of popular prime time tv actors now. It might end up as a small racing tournament arc just like that 4 week 4 part strongest battle episodes. If toqger is eligible, then boukenger should be since it didn't get a lot of love for being an anniversary season itself. Kobayashi once randomly reuse a civilian character twice for two different sentai she wrote. Also, It's nice and easy to get go-on red and magiyellow/beet buster back since their actors love toku, interview alumni, and are kind of ambassador for the brand.

I know another time they did this was in Kyuranger when they teamed up with Dekaranger Also if I remember correctly in Kyoryuger they talked about another world being destroyed by a powerful space entity, I don’t remember if they said it was Bug People on the planet but I remember in King-Ohger Dagded did say the Bugnarock came from another planet he destroyed in another universe, so maybe they wanted to just connect that plot point and finish what they mentioned in Kyoryuger since we never knew what happened to it.

Ryusoulger knight theme fit more with kingohger than kyoryuger, but the later is much more popular with famous actors retuning. Almost thought Amy or king wasn’t since they used to date like Dino thunder yellow and spd red, which is reason why spd red was replaced in operation overdrive crossover that mirror it Japanese special. Amy actress even got green screen in to be with the rest of the three guys in the kingohger episode, but now it’s reveal they’re all back including yayoi. Very curious about the bts production for the tv crossover and it relation to the newest vs movies.

If it is indeed a new trend then it’s gonna be terrible for new sentai viewers like me. I just recently started sentai so if they pull old characters from previous seasons in your face then it will most likely not only be weird but might be unsuccessful to the newer audience because there’s a chance they don’t know anything about the person they’re bringing back, making it feel as if you have to do homework to understand someone appearing for around 3 episodes. As for the kyoryuger appearing in king ohger, I personally see it more as a t-rex being the king of the dinosaurs instead of king’s name simply being king.

The trend of referencing old seasons actually started with Gokaiger. Special cameos, transformations into old rangers' forms...etc. Of course, when this season was so popular, they started to use it in many other seasons as well. Another trend that caught my attention is that the new seasons progress from the perspective/narrative of a ranger other than the Red Ranger. Haruka in Donbrothers, Jeremy in King Ohger and Mirai in Boonboomger.

Calling go-onger/past sentai will help with intro a new upgrade mecha debut or re release their old mecha. Ultraman been incorporating past heroes for a decade and taisen movies existed before avengers during decade. In a way, dagded really undermined the Kyoryuger from being creator of their big bad to destroying countless other world as hakaishin. He is like Zenkaiger final boss with the personality of long from gekiranger. They didn't bother to explain how on earth did their ancestor make the bug spaceship and Torin just let a group of humans leave. It make more sense if it was ryusoulger since they were having a civil war with the druidon. By the way, Your opinion about your preference on sentai being superior to pr might anger people like dosmrider for being a sentai purist despite growing up watching pr. Although, there two side of the same coin where pr actors aren't as respected or have lucrative acting career opportunities that follows after their respective show ended. A lot especially mmpr cast rely on doing convention full time to make a decent living on top of what else they might be doing like voice acting work. Some resent the show and some extend their resentment to the fans as well and tries to bury their past involvement like it was shameful. Emma Lahana and Michael Copon wished pr was bigger like star war or marvel and once upon a time, those franchise used to be look down upon by the west. So far, only mmpr pink, jungle fury yellow, and a few of the rpm cast became semi professional actors of acclaimed tv shows. Also, unlike Japan although the salary are poor for both country either way, but the western actors doesn’t really have that much of a fondness toward the franchise, so the enthusiasm isn’t there accompany by outdated carbon copy of mmpr script.

Ryusoulger besides the 4 week battle that precede it feature no past dino sentai and it's very self contain generic to point they didn't capitalize or utilize earth tribe knight protector theme very much maybe it's a budget reason after it epic pilot episode. On the other hand, Kyoryuger even got a korean exclusive sequel and made a random 33.5 episode like it some popular j drama that get special a year or two later to promote a mobile game. The cast even film an extended commercial for the game. If hasbro is still adapting sentai, it's another good excuse to call the dino charge actors back again. Kyoryuger kind of already did away the big bad they tease in their finale by wasting in on toqger where kyoryuger cast beside red get underutilized just like the gobuster in their vs movie prior. It's a good idea for them to share the stage with kingohger, but only wish it was a ful hour or 40 minutes long the same with the donbrother vs. The donbrother vs is mandatory annual vs, but feel like the appetizer for the serious main course since kyoryuger already gotten more lore exposure in the tv show last year. However, Donbrothers did promoted hurricanger and abaranger. Kingohger will do one with dekaranger.

Honestly the kingohger crossover with kyoryuger in the tv series was really good. I don't see the problem with it. Yes might be two different theme and didn't connect with story. But overall it was still enjoyable, kyoryuger being their 10 years makes sense. If it was goseiger or gaoranger i will be like why. At the end of the day do all of these do matter is just a small thing and shouldn't be taken to seriously. I disagree with the part you sayinh they are trying to incorprate with the story doesn't feel force. It was planned since the begnning.

Personally the king-ohger X kyoryuger Collab definitely felt like a money grab which is understandable when you see how much money zyudenchis made. Another reason I say this is going to Boonboomger x go-onger, go-on red has no new member or upgrade form meaning we are either only get releases of go-onger items if they do make toys for it. Ive heard rumours of Boonboomger X toqger for the 10th of toqger not 100% sure on it but if true it would suprise me if we get a new member or form for the toqgers
