I feel so bad for this mother. She seems like she had poor support before getting pregnant and was completely dropped afterwards. And despite all that she seems to be a good mom, makes sure her baby isn’t around when she smokes, stopped while pregnant which must’ve been so challenging. And then to be falsely suspected of harming your baby? No wonder she’s defensive. I hope she finds support so she can be there emotionally for her baby as well as she has physically taken care of her.

Dr. Manning constantly does this, it’s infuriating. You’re telling me they didn’t take a single look into the history before claiming abuse?

Even House didn't do this. He suspected abuse at certain times, when he had good reason, but he didn't report it until the case was figured out. Manning judging parents instantly is bad. House assumes they all lie, but not that they're terrible people abusing their child.

I would honestly want to take my child out of that hospital too if somebody did that to me. That was a horrible horrible thing for that mother to go through and so irresponsible of the doctors.

Manning was my least favorite character. As a mother dealing with kid cases, you would think that she'd be perfect for the case, but no, because she constantly questions and judges the parents without knowing the lives and history

In real life, she wouldn't have gotten her baby back immediately. The child would have still gone into the system and she would have spent months, if not years, fighting to get her back.

When I was 18 months old I fell about 6 inches onto a carpet. This should have been no big deal, but the fall fractured my leg. It was a complete fracture, something very unusual in young children, and a fracture that would not be normal from a small fall. The ER doctors went straight for the child abuse route separated my parents and called the police even though there were no other signs of abuse. Fortunately one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the country happened to come into the ER to invite a friend to lunch. He took one look at me and thanks to a number of birthmarks he knew right away that my parents were telling the truth. In the end I would lose that leg, but it had nothing to do with anything my parents had done. Not even dropping me. My leg would have broken with any slight bump because something was wrong with the bone. Just because it's rare for a baby to have broken bones like mine, it doesn't mean it's child abuse.

I work in childcare and was abused, so naturally I am always on high alert. But you know what I do to prevent this exact situation? I get another person's opinion before making any kind of report. But to be fair, if you were presented with what is clearly SBS and the child only has one caregiver, this is not a bizarre conclusion for Manning to draw.

I love the part where Manning makes a judgement call, regrets her actions, and THEN does the important research that could've avoided the problem in the first place.

I'm a single mom too. I left my abusive ex when I was 5 months pregnant (Nov 2018) and ultimately decided to raise my son all on my own. My son is 4 now and a healthy little man. He's my world. While sometimes I feel like I'm not doing well at raising him, I know at least I'm trying my best and that he's clothed, fed and sheltered.

Shouldn't she be fired after all these "I think it's abuse" allegations? Or is there something in the law that protects doctors making these allegations?

You could see the way the mother handed her baby over that she had hesitations. She's clearly attached to her little one.

Every mother needs support, however small in whatever way it's presented. The mom felt so helpless in many scenes of this clip. And to say it's unbelievable that some mothers out there still go through emotional abuse, despite doing all the best for their babies. Being a mother comes with its challenges, no mom wants to go through being denied access to their kids.

I'm a medicine student. Our doctors always tell us that abuse is THE LAST thing we can think about. First we have to investigate A LOT and if we are REALLY SURE that is abuse, we report. But that's it. We are not detectives, we don't have to figure out who did it. It's not our business

The problem isn’t that manning claimed it was abuse, the problem is that she said, “I cannot draw any other conclusion here other than child abuse”, and then when it’s reinforced that once CPS is called, it’s out of their hands, Manning says “A mother intentionally harmed her child”, even though Shaken baby syndrome isn’t always caused by abuse or intentionally. Only for us to find out afterwards that she didn’t even review the Medical records, and even if she did, this still means that she didn’t at least double check before making the claim “I cannot draw any other conclusion here other than child abuse” and they after that Manning herself says that she has thought about shaking her own baby, which means she was possibly projecting her own experiences on that poor mother and using it to justify why the baby was 100% intentionally abused and has shaken baby syndrome. Manning made the right call by being concerned for the baby and suspecting abuse, BUT she made the CHOICE TO NOT check/and or recheck the medical records or get a proper opinion on everything going in with the baby. She and another doctor came to the conclusion that I was shaken baby syndrome but did she and that other doctor go over the medical records to make ABSOLUTE sure that it was abuse? NO. Did Manning even consider, checking the medical records or even retesting the baby again, when it is established that once CBS is called it is out of their hands? NO. Did Manning even feel bad that she ruined a young mothers life? Doesn’t seem like it, if anything she seems even worse when she talks about how she thinks about doing it to her own kid when she’s exhausted. It just makes her line “A mother intentionally harmed her child” even more unjustified and judgmental, cause it it looks like she is PROJECTING HER EXPERIENCES onto another person, to justify HER SUSPICION of abuse, that she did NOT bother to make ABSOLUTE SURE that she was right, and even when she is given one last chance to go back and make sure she is so confident that it’s abuse that she doesn’t and then for some unknown reason she checks AFTER CPS is called and SUDDENLY, it’s a possibility that it’s not abuse and it could be something else that could have EASILY been discovered if she and a another doctor checked/rechecked the medical records. Manning just ruined a mothers life, all because she’s a hypocrite,judgmental and and biased person who projects her own experiences as a mother onto everyone else without thinking about their lives and their hardships,history’s or reasoning. It’s like she asumes every parent is perfect mentally,financially and physically their entire lives,pregnancy and etc, like “her” apparently.(Btw if manning isn’t “perfect” as a parent it makes her look even worse because that’s implying that she just doesn’t care or think about the fact that some people struggle or have it worse than her) Sorry for the rant, I was just really fed up with people defending manning just because “the doctors have the baby in mind”, “reporting is protocol” and “if there is a suspicion report it”. Manning made the choice not to make sure despite having multiple chance to do so. All it took was a quick look, a look She choose NOT to do, even though twice she had a chance to do so. Especially with the emphasis on “Once CPS is involved it’s out of our hands” and “There isn’t any possible reason?”. Were the writers trying to make Manning as unlikable as possible? She was always involved with babies and pregnant women but was incredibly biased.

I'm hooked on this show. S. Epatha Merkeson is an outstanding actor in any TV show or as a supporting actor in movies. Oliver Platt really comes off as the hospital shrink. It's struck me recently that medical dramas like Chicago Med and especially House almost seem like crime and mystery with doctors becoming police detectives with medical degrees.

Dr. Manning is the worst dr. In most of the cases she judged the patient or the patient's family and even her evaluations were false half of the time.. 😢 that's not the part of a doctor's edhcation.

This happened to my sister and her granddaughter many times. My sister was raising my grand niece, who was injured during birth. There was no amniotic fluid, so the Dr was in a hurry to remove the baby. She opted for vaginally at first, but after she couldn't clamp onto my grand niece's head, she pushed her back in and told my niece they had to do a c-section. When she reached in to grab my grand niece, the Dr twisted several times to get around my niece's intestines and yanked her out. The trauma the ER Dr was reporting to cps in my grand niece's case was due to their Dr's negligence during delivery, but they were quicker to report it rather than to check her records.

Manning has a Savior Complex. She’s SO insecure that she projects onto everyone else. It’s irritating, she always, always makes it about herself.

Manning is genuinely the worst character on this whole show. Obnoxious, self-centred, far too emotional, completely one-dimensional and never actually shows any kind of growth or development. She's remained stagnant since season one, and it's such a shame. It seems like the writers just never figured out what to do with her beyond making her obsessed with children.

She is a terrible doctor and should have been fired long ago. Trying to help is fine but she is cruel and mean to anyone who disagrees with her or is doing something that she sees as the wrong thing. They try to make her come off as the empathetic one, but it just comes off as egotistical self righteous, mean and judgmental.

when i was around... 3 i climbed onto and stood on the back of the sofa... for about a second. off the back i went and splam split fat lip [thankfully did not need stitching] at the hospital... they kept asking my parents how this happened, over and over. [thing was... i was at the time also an epileptic on medicine which affected my platelets.. so... not helped. in the end my mum told them to "Take her into another room and ask her yourself what happened" and I told them. THEN they took them at their word.

It always strikes me as odd when a parent says "that baby" or "the baby" instead of "my baby". Maybe I'm looking into it too much but I always make a mental note when I hear that.

I have a daughter with an extremely medical condition. 99% of doctors have never heard of it, let alone seen it. When she was a child, this was my biggest fear. I was blessed with an incredible peds doctor who gave me her personal number in case this happened to me.

This kind of stuff is so common. I read about a baby taken away from his parents because they accused them of starving him. He had the same I’ll was I have, gastroparesis, which means that your stomach muscles are paralyzed. Eating can be agonizing, you spend most of the time feeling like you are going to throw up or about to throw up. Your stomach can get so distended you look pregnant and it’s miserable. The family’s doc even diagnosed the child, but the state’s contracted doc said that it was wrong. To make it worse the mom was alone because her husband was deployed. It was such a messed up situation and took forever for them to get their child back

This is the most emotionally involved hospital i have ever seen in my life. I've never even watched this show, but just from KZfaq alone i've seen this Dr. Manning broad make so many bad decisions that I'm started to consider that she is a curse to that hospital from the Gods themselves. How she hasn't been fired yet is well beyond the comprehension of man.

So, I’m a guy. Does that disqualify me? I worked two jobs to support my family so my wife could stay home and watch the kids. I would come home not just beat , but F’n BEAT. My youngest son was born two months premature. Had to be on a heart monitor for several months after he was allowed to come home. Went through training for infant CPR, and medications that had to be measured out exactly in a syringe. I’m a damn heavy sleeper, and a bomb wouldn’t wake me. That heart monitor went off every time his heart stopped, and the supersonic shock waves reverberated through the bedroom. Dammit, that’s my SON!!! I’ve already seen the stats on CPS throughout the land. 80% of kids they kidnap is for profit, paid by the Federal Government.
