I prefer Sideshow’s as I like that it’s got a more realistic tactical suit and sculpt, and more intricate details.

For $1k 1/4 scale statue, this should had been perfect. Personally, I wouldn’t care how many portraits you get if 1 is decent. Absolutely waste of the 2 portraits. The base is horrible. I would be like WTF. The new SSC Wolvie is way better.

Beautiful piece

the reason that you see veins through the suit is because of the process Franco uses when sculpting sculpting the costume. Generally the whole sculpt will start from a naked form and then clothes will be extracted off of that base mesh. The issue here is that he didn't smooth out the skin folds and veins when using that as a base for the costume. There are a lot of shortcuts being taken in the process to speed things along. As long as the feedback is passed along to him this can be easily avoided in the future. I feel that in order for Franco to maintain his current level of productivity he is forced to reuse a lot of assets he has premade for himself. This means that any flaws or features on the premade that might have looked fine on them carry over into whatever project he uses said asset for. It's one of the things you need to be on the lookout for when taking these kind of shortcuts or using these processes.

Spot on review lol stay puffed had me rolling. Sideshow does have issues with scaling sentinel pieces on base. They show correct or avoid all together. So many characters in X-men comics to just resort to sentinel all the time.

In my opinion I think the XM brown Wolverine is the best Wolverine statue out there. This looks great! But if I wanted a Tiger strip Wolverine, I would hold out and wait for someone to make a Marvel vs Capcom version of him.

I just can't get over the price point. It really looks like the studio is just going off of the sculptors name to sell the statue. For the dollar price, I honestly would have expected more. You would expect to put that statue next to Sideshow and it doesn't compare at all.

Great statue but I just cant get excited about wolverine pieces anymore, just because there's just so many... also that silver log is like 2005 custom statue bad. Wonder how that got through the final stages!

Put the custom body in the SS pose and on a larger Sentinel hand base and it would be killer. If only something like that was going to be coming out soon... ;)

dig out some spray glue, and some cheap snow flocking from the hobby store and you can improve that base incredibly easy. You should have to do that of course.

Really do like the actual Wolverine on this custom more than SS and agree, it may be one of the best Yellow Wolverines out there. Base may be improved with a better paint job..probably not much to get that touched up to at least bring out the original sculpt and not make it an eyesore.

You can save the base using texture diorama paints for the mud and snow. Definitely needs to be redone.

I prefer the darker yellow on the custom suit....and the claws are superior as well...I love the slight curve to them as opposed to the rigid straight variations we sometimes see....if they could have only nailed that base it would have been a home run.

I agree with you the first head sculpt is better, the issue I see with the second one to me is that I see the black parts (horns like) not going up like in the first one (they are too horizontal) and the unmasked head sculpt the issue to me is the color of the gums and lips, maybe is the same to you. And yes, the base needs more work and also paint job on the belt, to me it looks flat.

I also like SS version wolverine, my excuse for sentinel hand that it the prime sentinel version, but I do wish his uniform color was close to traditional color.

A bad base does take away a bit but not entirely from a statue. What is up this the baby teeth on him? I get the upper teeth sitting over the bottom ones but that didn't transitioned well from the 3D to print, I am suprised you were ok with it.

Sideshow is my favorite, even when not considering value. On top of the weak base, the portraits are a bit sub-standard, and as others have commented, the one where he is supposedly screaming/yelling looks like he is laughing. Also, not sure you can compare the two without considering value. The SS statue was around $570, correct? If the custom cost $1,000, then SS by a mile.

Nice custom Wolverine statue lots to compare with both custom and Sideshow Wolverines. The custom classic Wolverine yellow uniform is spot on though his arms are rather too bulky where Sideshow Wolverine arms are about the average size for that statue. As for the custom base could've done better pointing out the snow which looks like melted ice cream and the silver snow paint probably was a mistake but could've been an ice blue paint color to look like frozen ice on the tree log. The custom Wolverine dynamic attack pose looks nice. If this statue was to be as one the custom classic Wolverine yellow uniform would do well on the Sideshow Wolverine along with the anatomy of Wolverine's torso on the Wolverine Sideshow piece, i think Sideshow would have taken the win of best statue than the custom piece. Taken away from both of their bases where one is the under scaled Sentinel hand and the other with the poor custom design snow base could have improved. Having said i think it's a tie where both share some quality misses on the base with their creative differences on both statues the anatomy and the uniform colors.

And thats why I went with the kit rather ten paying 100 bux more for it painted ....but I'm ahead on the base I'm thinking about a custom base it doesn't click with me ..even though its a companion with omega red coming out ..if I change my mind down the line I might let it go...who knows

Nice statue. The base is crap BUT it’s not noticeable from a distance if it’s any consolation. Overall I like it better than the Sideshow Wolverine. The color on the custom is popping. Also, the portrait with the mouth open and the detailed tongue and the five o clock shadow is one of the best portraits I’ve seen. The one that you chose to display him with is nice as well. The unmasked portrait was crap. Great statue overall.

Def a cool piece, and doctor, I concur with your assessment. That said, the ‘snow’ on the base would bug me. I’d prob have to tackle the base myself. Maybe some textured snow paint from Michaels (spray into a dish and apply w a brush). I’d also tackle those tentacles. Maybe dry brush some silver/chrome and black -nothing crazy. Wolverine himself looks awesome, but the base would be a distraction to me. I have this same issue with Gentle Giant Black Widow; she’s incredible, but I hate the stupid faux glass base. Working on a solution lol

Maybe get a repaint of this one and we’ll all be happy

that's tough, having a shit base would really bother me. Pieces are not usually bought for the base but its still an important factor overall.

Statue is Really Nice, muscles are a little exaggerated even for a comic book character, but textures an colors are great. THE BASE IS A CRIME! That snow looks worse than a dime store Christmas window decoration that came out of a spray can. You are better off gluing cotton balls to it and covering up the base of the log and the Omega Red Tentacles. (I think I may have gone too far with that criticism just a bit!)😁

The detail work on the costume are amazing. Arms and head sculpt are ok but I feel they could have been done better. Overall great piece of give it a low four. Custom is overall a better piece

While Franco is the man, I would adjust the portrait a little and change the texture on the gloves, I feel like it’s a draw between sideshow and Franco’s, but that base is a pile of poopy poo! If you want me to repaint it let me know, check me out on IG, I make miniatures and dioramas. I’m going to be making a whole new base for my beta ray bill.

It is.. cuz its bigger and his color (orange) looks better. I do prefer the mask version on both tho and I give a plus to the SS one because its diaperless whiIe this custom version goes with the classic diaper look 😂 The base of the custom Wolverine is ok.. if you view the statue mostly from the front. When I see it from the side.. I tend to Iike it less.

I like the custom but overall I think the Sideshow piece is better (if you're a 'slightly less than' xtreme collector). $1,000+SH is a lot. And I think he's too big. Beauty of being a Wolverine, Spider-Man, Batman, Superman...etc fan is there's always the next statue.

The custom is a pretty cool statue ruined by the jar of Fluff tipped all over the base 8-) However, It's going to take something very special to oust the SS Wolverine as the best on the market!
