Is This Flight Simulator Worth $10,000? Redbird Cessna 172/RG TD2 Setup and First Flight

Gaining IFR currency can be a challenge, but FAA approved flight simulators and trainers can make currency easier to obtain.
One of these flight simulators is Redbird's TD2 Flight Training Device (FTD). This one is a G1000 outfitted Cessna 172 with an optional landing gear and/or constant speed prop.
Watch and see if you think it's worth $10,000 brand new. Got any suggestions for approved FTD simulators that can help you maintain IFR currency that have enjoyable flying control and accurate visuals?

Thx. Some places can use it and it’s better than nothing but for the cost, I’d rather spend it on a real aircraft and instructor time.

What would you suggest I get as a flights sim I see these things are going for $2500 now

Depends on if you want to log the time. X Plane with yoke/controls will teach you just the same.

I am a high school teacher looking to buy a sim for my aerospace science courses. Is this worth the money, im your opinion?

No, for the amount of money you’d spend ($6-8k for a used one) you’d be better off kitting out microsoft flight simulator with controls, a wrap around/pano display. A lot of the cost in this one is that the FAA certifies it for flight logging for instrument training and currency.

If you’re an active CFII, then maybe if you also want them to build time. But there are newer systems out there. Will ask Rich the names of some.

Does it need a monitor ?

No - the system is integrated with a monitor. At least this version was cumbersome and we didn't find it very useful.

did you ever get this working. seems like a colossal waste of money. I was about to buy a used one for $7k but no way after watching this. ty

Ha ha, yeah, I have gotten it to work, mostly. The best value for it is that you can log the time, but then you have to subtract frustration time... If you can get one for $4k or lower then I'd say it's OK. I'll reach out to Redbird and see what their update options are to see if things can improve.
