So recently I stumbled upon Dawnbeat, an app for sampling and beat making for iOS, that’s in a way quite similar in terms of layout and features to the very popular Koala Sampler, but is also quite feature rich and adds some nice improvements. The base app is completely free and the in-app purchase adds auto slicing and Auv3 support, so you can load plugin instruments and effects, which is probably the biggest advantage this app has over Koala and you also get additional built-in effects and drum kits.
You also get a 4 bus mixer, similar to the one that Koala recently introduced as a paid update for free - the mixer is included in the base app, it has sidechaining and a couple of other cool effects, and the effects aren’t as many as Koala’s mixer, however the AUv3 functionality enables you to load third party effects.
Unfortunately for Android users, unlike Koala, the app is iOS only. But the base free version is pretty close to the full Koala app which costs 15 bucks except for the auto slicing.

You can append one seq to another to double it, even onto the same seq itself. So it has the abilities to blend seq (merge), append (glue back to back), or replace a seq with another. Yeah, it definitely has some serious functionality. You can even change the number of bars a seq has and either choose to change the bar length which actually places more blank bars behind the seq or set the bar length which surprisingly will stretch the seq to the number of bars you wish to use effectively slowing the seq down by the number of bars you’re choosing. I’ve got to admit, it’s pretty dam dope. And the AUV3 is pretty damn flawless. Love how you can resample anything just by hitting the button by the volume control. This thing is 🔥👍🏽

Would definitely be great to have it in Koala. One reason the developer may have not done it yet is that third party plugins make the app more likely to crash and Koala is generally rock solid (in my experience).

@@LowHeatBeatsThe reason is more likely the price of a licence that would allow auv3 plugins to work in Koala. Marek created his own fx and bypassed this fee, a fee which would then make Koala more expensive if he did this. Just as any DAW that uses vst plugins (a format created and owned by Steinberg) has to pay a licence, as do the 3rd party plugin developers. Same for Apple's AU.

I just saw this on my recommendation, Cool video sir! I'm a Koala Sampler user and the app is perfect with my AKAI. The only thing that bothers me is that I can't use my AUV3s, and I have to use any mobile DAW like Garageband to use both Koala and my AUV3. This is outstanding! Dawnbeat looks like a sampler but also operates as a DAW. Thank you for sharing 🎹

I haven't thought about this at all. I'm no longer doing live shows, but when I was doing that, I was using Ableton Live. Tbh I wouldn't use this app or the iPad at all for DJ-ing/live performance.

You can load AUv3 compatible plugins but I'm not sure if the ones from Garage Band work like this.

is there a time limit to each sample? I record a vocal sample but after i close and re open the project it cuts it in half. Is there a way to fix this?

I found that every time you play a sample there is a background electronic mid to high pitch hum. Like each sample has a noise floor built in. I haven’t samples anything else to test the theory all samples are contaminated. Anyone else have this experience?

@@LowHeatBeats So weird. I used a different lightning connector into the same headphones and it was barely noticeable. Almost like the other lightning jack device was not grounded…but it was still completely silent when nothing was playing.

Koala is available on android. So this can't be better. I held on to my ipad for years solely for the music apps. But I'm not going back.

@@rokko_hates_japan android isn’t capable of running audio unit / vst or an equivalent because of audio system limitations. So this app wouldn’t be useful for Android. Blame Google

It’s cool but I stopped using it once I figured out you can’t bounce out stems even with the paid version, if it could do that it would be great the stem sep in koala isn’t that great so I’m not mad at that but all in all koala is amazing this would just be a great backup, plus you can’t customize backgrounds on this one either unlike koala where you can

@@LowHeatBeats you can’t export your stems or sequences, it only bounces out full sequences, I guess you can work around it with just muting then exporting but besides that no easy fix on dawnbeat

Здравей Бояне! Аз съм Марто, на 44. Следя те отдавна, но съвсем наскоро зацепих, че си българин, което много ме зарадва. Вероятно е излишно да споменавам, че се кефя много на видеата ти и ги намирам за доста уникални, най вече от музикална гледна точка. Имаш стил! Разпознаваем си. Оставам фен. Искам обаче да чуя мнението ти по наболял за мен въпрос: Занимавам се с музика от 30 години. Навремето в БГ започнах с хип хоп, който на по късен период се превърна в хардкор/кросоувър/нео метъл. През 2001ва групата ми се разпадна и аз заминах за Берлин, където съм и до ден днешен. През 2002, заедно с един френд тук в Берлин, започнахме да продуцираме дръмендбейс, който комбинирахме с жива китара и бас, както и с доста нестандартни вокали. Работехме изцяло с Cubase и Reason. Някъде през 2004-2005 музата замря и аз изцяло спрях да се занимавам с музика и така до началото на 2022. Нещо ми стана, вероятно кризата на 40-те... Влязох в един музикален магазин и си купих всичко, от което бих имал нужда, че дори и малко отгоре: Maschine MK3, Push 2, MPC One, M-Audio Oxygene 49 Pro, Novation Circuit, Minilogue XD, Arturia MiniBrute 2, нов макбуук, Yamaha HS5, Antelope Zen Q, микрофони... Всичко, от което бих имал нужда. Идеята ми беше да започна да продуцирам детски песнички, на които да се прави анимирано видео и да се качват в youtube. Исках също така отново да "скоча" в хип хопа. Ами, ето ме 2 години по късно и съм до никъде. Оказа се, че след като загубих музата си през 2005та, светът е продължил да се върти и аз имам доста да наваксвам. Вече две години най-голямата ми дилема е какъв DAW да избера. Reason 12 е прекрасен, но не е това, което трябва да е. Ableton никога не съм го харесвал, но установих, че на днешно време не може без него, а и факта, че имам Push, го прави кандидат номер 1. Най-много бях изненадан от FL Студио. Оказа се, че Fruity Loops е надраснал и най смелите ми представи. Честно казано много ми допада и със сигурност е кандидат номер 2. Харесвам също така Logic, но не мога да си представя да ползвам само него. Тук идва Maschine - към момента го ползвам най-вече със собствения Maschine 2.0 софтуер и понякога с Ableton. До него стои най-голямата ми мечта - MPC-то. Още от дете си мечтаех някога да имам MPC... Истината обаче е, че не съм го включвал от 4 месеца. Някак си не ми пасва... Супер фен съм също така на Koala, Beat Maker, iMPC, Ableton Note, както и още доста други мобилни приложения за ipadOS. Оборудвах се дори с две нови китари и нов бас... Ами сам виждаш... Манджа с грозде. Да ИМАШ, не е хубаво! Навремето НЯМАХМЕ и правехме страхотна музика. Сега съм по-объркан от всякога. Вече две години не успявам да се концентрирам върху нито едно от споменатите и просто не знам как да го направя. Дай ми съвет, много ще съм ти благодарен. Знам, че искам да науча Ableton но олдскуул мисленето не ми позвволява да вникна в модерните възможности на програмата. Не спирам да гледам туториали, но до сега поне не съм намерил такъв, който да ме заинтригува и да ме накара да проумея нещата. Препоръчай ми някакви уроци за начинаещи. Да, толкова съм бос с Ableton... Препоръчай ми също така туториали за Maschine и въобще за NI като цяло - супер фен съм на Kontakt. Как да се концентрирам само върху един DAW или върху един контролер? MPC-то го преодолях, но продължавам да се лутам между Push 2, Maschine и мобилните приложения. Виждам, че и ти имаш доста "играчки", как успяваш да се съсредоточиш върху една от тях и коя всъщност е твоята любима "играчка" към момента и защо? Много станаха въпросите ми, но ето го може би най-важния - по какъв ред да вървя? На кое да наблегна най напред? Maschine? Ableton/Push? Или обратното? Извинявам се за дългия пост, но съм объркан и имам нужда от помощ. Благодаря ти предварително!

Здрасти Марто, благодаря ти за добрите думи! Трябва да се фокусираш върху едно нещо - Reason е окей, Ableton е окей, важното е кое ти е най-удобно. Просто си се сдобил с твърде много неща, които правят едно и също, което по-скоро пречи, отколкото помага. Аз ползвам основно Ableton от 2008 насам. DAW + миди клавиатура е всичко, което ти трябва. Ако можеш, пиши ми в Инстаграм или Фейсбук (тук са ми всички линкове: linktr.ee/lowheatbeats) и там ще обсъдим всичко.

Напоследък си мисля, че желанието ми отново да се занимавам с музика след огромната пауза от 15 години, е на първо място нищо повече от СБЪДВАНЕТО НА ДЕТСКИТЕ МИ МЕЧТИ. Сякаш не го направих за да творя, а по-скоро, за ДА МОГА ДА ТВОРЯ... Един вид дай да си купя всичко, за което някога съм мечтал, за да нямам извинения. Да, ама не! Не става така. Трябва ми Reason и миди клавиатура, като навремето... Точно с тази цел, се замислям да продам някои неща като старите ми колони, два стари интерфейса, MPC-то, а вероятно и Пуша, който искам да заменя с Push 3. I don't see how not being available for Android means it's not better. Have you tried it? I think it's better in terms of features for the price, but Koala beats it in terms of user experience, it's a more polished app.
