@@thedrmurchindise good quality and action is subjective. People consider benchmade to be good quality. Id call it ok at best. Also collectors are going to have a vastly different perspective on the idea to others.

@@thedrmurchindise Invalid isn't the right word here. Its more like nuanced. As far as why contribute. As a collector myself I'm very aware of what makes a good cutter vs what i want because its pretty/cool/fancy but not everyone looks at it like that and the knowledge of about where that line begins from firsthand experience could potentially stop someone who wont like understand or appreciate something like a Sebenza from making that leap and being disappointed. I’ll never quite understand people who use their pocket knives for food prep. First, why not just use a petty knife? It’s infinitely better for the job. Second, my pocket knives would almost always require a thorough cleaning before I would ever want them touching food. They are usually covered in tape gunk or some sort of dirt/dust from things I’ve been cutting.

Different strokes for different folks. I occasionally use mine for when I already have food made and dont want to get up and walk all the way to the kitchen if I either A. Forget a knife, or B. Feel like I dont need one, but end up needing one. I use KPL, thats food safe knife lube, and I clean my knife blade about daily. But theres been a few times ive use my 940 to cook some deer loin over the fire 🤣

A quick wash is all what my knife needs to make me feel confident in it being clean enough to cut my food. And i know that a kitchen knife is more efficient for the task but the thing is that i really hate cooking….so using a tool that i really love(my pocket knife) help me doing it with more enthusiasm. Maybe it’s a dumb reason but at least imm eating healthy and not spending to much in restaurants!

great video. Loved this. lol’d at the eating sausage part. - I felt the same about the Norseman. Never really understood the appeal, but wanted to experience one of their knives / add one to my collection … so decided on the Rask also, to skip the Norseman entirely. So watching this let me know my thoughts on it were on point. Cause honestly I was wondering if I should give the Norseman a chance … but nah, f-that. Thanks for the perspective, much appreciated. I have one from their initial run. I was able to visit their bat cave and chill with John and Erik for a bit, Erik custom anodized my scales on the spot when I picked it up. Mine is ultra smooth but that big slab of RWL 34 opens in slow motion, the momentum carries it open like a vault door. I think you need to do a another flick technique video, your ability to fire knives open always impresses me :). I may agree with you that the Norsemen might not be the best EDC knife, but I could never part with mine. Love the channel, TA

Norseman #2371 has been my daily carry for 3 years, fav edc knife I’ve owned over that time and the blade shape really grew on me. I treat it harder than I would any other high end folder, I’ll frequently use it to pry things which I wouldn’t do with any other high end edc knife. I agree it’s not great for food prep but if I’m using a cutting board I have a drawer full of kitchen knives right by. I just got a rask (#1463) last week and love it too, not sure how much it’ll replace the Norseman’s place in my pocket. Rask action and overall design, attention to detail, and finishing are better IMO. But it’s also a less rugged design, I wouldn’t feel as comfortable abusing the rask. I won’t be opening any paint cans for example with the rask, something I’d do with the Norseman without a second thought.

For a tip on using the Norseman on zip ties is if you use the tanto edge under the lock on the zip tie and push it cuts really well and easier to cut zip ties in tight spaces that way since your doing a straight push cut

Carried a $25 Gerber with a partially serrated blade for many years while working in casino bars. That little thing survived everything I threw at it, fruit prep, box cutting, thousands of dishwasher cycles. The same knife ended up in my USCG stations’ gear bag. I carried a Gerber Auto 06 Tanto with partially serrated blade, man that blade was solid, but the scales were brutal on jeans.

As a third generation firearms guy who hung out in my Grandfather's Gunshop starting at around 4, first target shooting at 6, first deer at 11 all while cutting hay in the field and raising calves for burcher we carried and used a lot of knives and other bladed tools, many of witch I still have heading into my 40s as well as working with custom gunsmiths so I do understand that prices are based on the time and materials put into a product. With that said I personally wouldn't spend 1k USD on a pocket knife unless I was at sufficient wealth to the point that 1k is just a drop in the bucket or I could use the cost of it as a business expense and claim it on taxes but if a person has the means to do so then more power to them and I hope they will enjoy it. As a DIY guy I would rather spend the money on tooling and learn to make something myself to suit me.

I've had my Norseman now for a few months. I've carried it everyday since it came in. It's the most expensive knife I own, but I do own a few knives I'd put into the same category as the Norseman. All of those though are $450 knives. In my opinion, the Norseman's original price of $500+ (depending on finish options) was perfect. But since John and Eric can't make these things fast enough to keep up with the insane demand, the prices increased. Hopefully they're operation can grow large enough for production to meet demand. Until then, we're stuck with higher and higher prices

Does the hand made box and the tools it comes with come into the price of the knife or could you turn around and sell it without all that stuff for $1k? I would have liked to have seen an unboxing from the beginning showing the box and the items it comes with. I'm not sure everyone knows how this was packaged and presented let alone what goes into the production of it and how limited it is. To me, all of those details come into play for the price of it and how one might go about answering the question of worth. And believe me, I'm not a fan of it but I can appreciate the effort, and the attention to detail it took to produce it. Now I am definitely looking forward to seeing you LS swap that Rover. Keep up the great work Taylor.

Instead of a month long single knife carry, how about a month long genre carry? A small Mora in scout carry could be the typical, but on days you're doing yard work a "mini"-chette, on others maybe a boot carry. I like how the challenge "sharpened" your opinion of tantos. Here's another month challenge, Tanto Tuesdays (pick a month with 5 tuesdays) Reverse tanto (Pro-Tech Malibu), Japanese style tanto, budget (Ontario RAT 1 or 2), etc. And other monthly genres could be thumb studs, hole-y knifes (other than Spyderco), front flippers.

$1,000+ means the knife goes in my collection and not for boxes. Very unique knife and I would love on for my collection but the Norseman will have to get in line.

Any folding knife above $150 I consider it as a collection knife.

Hmmm 🤔 you sure about that? Times have changed. Just the para 2 is 185 . . . The 940 is probably IMO the best edc knife you can get and thats around 200 now . . . And these are both flagship models.

@@henryohenry1504 He’s probably just not a knife guy. For people who don’t carry and aren’t into knives, many feel even $50 is hefty. For people who are really into knives, I know some consider $150 to be in the “ultra budget” range To each his own

@@henryohenry1504 You don't need $500 knives to cut some robes and opening boxes. After all some folding knives are only for EDC.

@@mieux6655 I love knives and I'm into them, but I won't pay tons of money for small tasks knife, Unless I am a collector.

@@Enes-wj5xq No I agree you don't but I just named two VERY popular knives around $200. And well the I've dealt with kershaw and crkt and I gotta say their warranties just don't hold up. I own several benchmades and anytime anything happens I send it in and they take care of it no questions asked. So just in convenience alone let alone the proven quality of the knife I'd pick those. And again their over 150 but not quite 500 . . .

I'd definitely be down to buy a norseman eventually but its wild when you think you could get 6 bugouts for the price of one of those and still have 100 bucks left over EDIT: I'd 100% get a sebenza first though

Your humble confession that you are not smart enough to think of thinks others had not thought was a nice touch. However, I find you above average in intelligence. So don’t run your self down too strongly. Love your videos.

Interesting. Good review. I couldn’t afford it but I think it’s ugly. That said, potato, patata. I’m all for guys getting what they like. Clearly a good blade and props to a small company.

A beautiful piece of art with (for me), a useless blade. I despise recurves I like super pointy tips and hollow grinds so my favorites are the Large Inkosi drop point and the XM-18 Bowie.
