Thank you Kirsty Rebecca, it looks lovely dark and velvety and the white shows up beautifully. I've switched from colour pencil to soft pastel. But I enjoy working with colour pencil on black paper. This paper seems to have a lovely matt finish.

You're welcome! It's worth trying if you like black paper - it doesn't take as many layers as some other papers but I think it takes enough to create a realistic piece that isn't too detailed 😊

Thank you. I’m new to pastels (soft pastels and pan pastels) and have been trying different surfaces. I found you through the Panpastel catalog, haha.

I'm glad you found my videos! PS: I only recommend Clairefontaine Pastelmat for pastels by the way! When it comes to normal coloured pencils, there are a lot more options , though 😊

Have you tried STONEHENGE 100% cotton FINE ART PAPER 250GSM BLACK SMOOTH / VELLUM (not their watercolour paper.)

No, I don't think I've heard of (or seen) that paper before! I've tried stonehenge before but I believe it was their watercolour paper - and it worked okay, similar to other watercolour papers! Do you have a link to this paper? I'd love to see it 😊 Someone also recommended the Fabriano black black - apparently it's very black and works well with coloured pencil so I'd like to try that too!

@@KirstyRebeccaFineArt Unfortunately I can’t post a direct link as KZfaq will remove my comment. However if you type into google “stonehenge 100% cotton deckled edge papers” you should get Jackson’s up as one of the first links. The black on black is ok though it can’t take many layers and is not 100%cotton.

I absolutely love Fabriano’s heavy weight watercolor paper for watercolor. That’s what Lauren McCraken uses for his realistic watercolor paintings. I haven’t tried pastel pencils or colored pencils on that paper, yet. 😊 I didn’t know they made a black, black paper. Thanks for sharing this info!
