It's the MOST POPULAR cocktail on KZfaq! As proven in our (not) very scientific recent video on the top 13 KZfaq cocktails, and it's a cocktail that could get you into a lot of trouble, but is it really that boozy?
It may not be my ideal 'cup of tea', I can certainly see the appeal.
CHAPTERS:
0:00 - Introduction
0:15 - History
1:10 - Products
1:52 - Garnish & make
4:23 - Taste & comments
SPECS:
15ml (1/2oz) vodka
15ml (1/2oz) gin
15ml (1/2oz) white rum
15ml (1/2oz) tequila
15ml (1/2oz) curacao/triple sec
15ml (1/2oz) sugar syrup
30ml fresh lemon juice
Around 45ml coca cola
A skewered lemon wheel and cocktail cherry to garnish
EQUIPMENT:
A jigger
Shaker tins
A hawthorn strainer
And a highball glass
METHOD:
Add all of your ingredients except your coca cola to your shaker tins.
Pour the coca cola in to your serving glass.
Fill your shaker tin with ice, seal and shake hard.
Pop the tins open, but before you pour, add ice to your serving glass.
Use the Hawthorn strainer to hold the ice back in your tins and pour slowly over the fresh ice - this should create a layered effect.
Garnish with your skewered lemon and cherry, and enjoy!

@5:20 - the chemistry behind this drink can get you drunker faster. The soda is carbonated, and carbonated beverages induce the pyloric valve at the bottom of your stomach to remain open longer, which means the alcohol enters your intestines (and blood stream) faster than if the drink were not carbonated. So now you know. :)

"Fanta Limón. I still live for that shit." :D I can relate, I lived in Central America as a child and would take one any day over a Long Island Iced Tea. The major issue I've always had with this so-called cocktail is that it always struck me as nothing more than an excuse to pour a whole bunch of cheap booze in a glass without rhyme or reason and covering up the ensuing awful taste with a boatload of sugar and cola. It always sells well because it keeps drunk people happy and bars even happier as they charge premium price for the s****iest booze. Talk about getting fleeced.

When you pour the coke first totally changes the flavor and is supposed to be only a splash of coke. I bartended in Manhattan from 1980 till 1989 then I bartend in NJ since and we actually never shake the LIT originally, like the creator made it, but later on, most people would shake it first then pour a splash of coke, just a splash! And use sour mix. Then you will get the original flavor. There are about 100 or more variations of the drink but that is the original, see the the creator : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLinds2dy9-yd4U.html

The pony tail makes you even more adorable! This is the only drink that I shake and stir, Great video!!! You got to use that glass again, so cool!!! Lots of people have issues with it being unmixed. The way you made it looks really great, but done like that you drink moistly coke from the bottom first and then you're left with hard booze. So I usually put the spirits first and then slowly and gently add coke and slightly stir it. Looks good too and is more balanced in terms of coke to alcohol, but I guess it's more of a personal preference thing :)

Late to the party here having only just discovered BtB but here's my version (for home use only): No sugar syrup and swap the lemon juice for lime, then up the tequila pour to 25ml or 30ml so the flavour comes through more strongly. I like to give it a gentle stir before serving which gives it more of an 'iced tea' look. This is tailored to my tastes but I've never had any complaints from house guests!

Not a fan of this drink but that's just me. Once saw a funny presentation by my colleague at the bar. He shook the spirits, lemon and sugar, poured that in a glass, added some ice, put in a round whole slice of orange, poured over the coke and then mixed that by stabbing the orange with a straw. Looks cool, tastes good, doing it that way ever since.

There was a bar that used to serve beer pitchers full of Long Islands for 5$ US dollars. Seemed like a lot of coke though.

I've never seen a Long Island made this way. I've not seen it floated quite so much, and it is way too dark to look like iced tea. Usually there is far less cola in it, and made with a sour mix (lemon + lime juice + sugar) probably because it's convenient for the bartender, but I'd argue the lemon-lime goes well with the triple sec.

We have a pre mixed LIT mix at the bars I work at, is it good? Doubtful, but it sure is convenient

I'm using 20mils of each booze, fit's perfectly. The description on the card is "sweet, cola, hits you hard" which fit's just as well, I think.

I think there’s a drink that is boozier; the bullfrog. vodka, gin, white rum, tequila, blue curaçao 1 oz each. Then top with Redbull. Of course the glass is filled with ice and garnished with a lemon slice inside the glass.

I live on Long Island (NY) and I’ve always seen Long Island Ice Teas made by adding the splash of Coke to the glass (or plastic cup) after all the liquor. Also, only your new to the bar scene 21-year-olds order these unsophisticated, booze-heavy drinks!!

There's also the Wall Street Iced Tea which is the Long Island with a line of coke.

I like this drink, but I prefer it made more mixed together instead of soda on the bottom. Might be me though. Haven't had one this year, prefer my old fashions and ginger and topic at home or good jack and coke.. cheers, hope barvreopem goes well!!

Also I always use a lime wedge for this one bc it’s a little cuter and adds a contrasting ‘placebo effect’

@@BehindtheBar I am a firm believer that cola tastes better with lime than lemon so by putting the originally ingredient of lemon in there but a lime wheel on the glass rim, they believe there’s a hint of lime in there

Did not realise they were meant to have coke in them, I think I've only seen variations. Agree, can definitely think of better ways of getting that much booze!

Hmmm... I used to order this quite a lot in my younger days and the American bars I've been to on both coasts just used the Coke for basically color only. At the very end of filling a pint glass with what seems like everything behind the bar, they squirt in a bit of cola from the soda gun and it magically turns it into what looks like a glass of iced tea. [Edit: Looked at the other comments and it looks like I'm not misremembering. Wasn't sure for a bit... Which I guess is also a side effect of this particular drink.]
