This is my 1929 Riley Brooklands which has been part of the Temple family since the 1980s. It is not an OHC engine. It is OHV. The motor features high cams with short pushrods which actuate the valves.

People often confuse the rocker cover arrangement as OHC so not surprised by the commentators' statements. The Brooklands 9HP model was developed for Riley by Thomson and Taylor. Reid Railton took over the development of the car after Parry Thomas' death. In initial run of Riley Brooklands were produced at the Surrey circuit before production was transferred to Coventry. @P.O. the ERA 6 can be directly traced back to the Riley Nine. The White Riley ran a 12/6, which was a decreased-CC version of the 14/6, which was an exact 6cyl version of the Nine. The 12/4 has little to do with the ERA 6; it was designed by Hugh Rose several months after ERA R1A was built....and was similar but different to the Nine, 12/6 and 14/6.

twin high cams same as the 1.5 engine but a bit lacking in the mains. They may have been low slung for going around bends but the long stroke meant a big flywheel so only having 2 mains no centre allowed the whole engine to gyro in tight bends and snap the crank. Its a balancing act.
