@@georgecope4673 Good info. I've just put a pair of BeamTech fanless bulb leds as my DRL , really easy to install and they are doing a very good job. Anyway I have to take the proyectors off and clean them . Maybe at that moment I'll upgrade to some morimoto retrofit or go for Xenon . Thank you mate!

@@TheAlfaNut NOT the same engine with the 4c, the giuletta got that. This is an older and very different version. It seems to have less power and consume a lot of fuel. The giuletta was spectacular with the 1.75

I have a professional photography background which probably helps but most of the editing / post production is what takes the time. @@TheAlfaNut Yes! I'm not sure why, but importing a 25+ year old car is much easier. My friend bought a 10 year old Isuzu Carry (cute little mini truck!) imported from Japan. Took months and hundreds of dollars in legal fees to finally get a title in our home state of Ohio! (Part of the problem was the original title was in Japanese!) Looking forward to seeing some older Alfas!

I'd value your advice, I'd love another Alfa Romeo especially a Brera, are they troublesome or should I buy another 166 series 2_ I do very little driving and regret parting with my 166 for a BMW E65 730d ? Love the videos and advice. People love to knock Alfa Romeo and most haven't owned or driven one.

I’ve only driven one Brera - the 2.2 Prodrive version and was quite impressed with it but they are heavy and most other versions are not as good so I’m told. Depends what you need a car to do really. A 166 is probably quite a bit bigger inside too.

Sorry for the late reply - was in no-mans land for a while! Quite right - I do need to drive the 3.2 for the sake of fairness if nothing else.

Hi Tom, thanks very much for the kind words, I’m glad that you enjoy the channel. I’ve been a bit preoccupied during the lockdown but am working on a couple of new ideas as we speak! Regarding autos, I have never actually driven an auto or aSelespeed Alfa but I can say that the Selespeed has some advantages and disadvantages: it changes gear very quickly and is easy to use, it also blips the throttle automatically when you downshift which is a lovely touch. Downsides are reliability (naturally!) as it has a tendency to go haywire sometimes and parts are not that easy to find. Like most Alfa mechanicals though, if they are serviced properly and respected, they are perfectly reliable. If I was buying a Selespeed Alfa, I would probably go for a Japanese imported 147 GTA or similar, as they are more common over there and normally very well cared for and no salt on the roads means much less chance of rust! The 156 was pretty flawless from any angle if you ask me, although I am a bit biased! ;0)

I have a 2.4 Ti and whilst it's a terrific car, it's so thirsty around town! If I get 20 mpg I'm doing well. In every other respect I think it's excellent, but the fuel consumption is a bit of a glaring issue. If I could get the same performance or better with good fuel economy from a Tbi then I'd buy it like a shot. Unfortunately 1750 Tbis are rarer than hen's teeth here in France. I've been looking for over a year and have only ever seen one come up in the small ads. And the guy was asking silly money for it :(

The best engine for this Beauty is the 1750 TBI, petrol of course....but it came too late, 2009.... I drive since 2006 a SW 2.2 jts, not bad, 133.000km by now, no problems at all since then

Hi Moss - no, that shouldn't be "normal". Could be a number of things but most likely either a DPF issue, a worn turbo / actuator or possibly an air leak somewhere in the intake. Is it high mileage?

Hi Dave, thanks for watching. Ironically, the Alfa will probably be just as reliable as the BMW, PROVIDED that it has been serviced and looked after properly. The 159 is the most German-like Alfa yet! Happy choosing.

Things you wanna check on the tbi -plastic black cover of the timing belt not cracked (avarage fix if you decide to cut one bolt off) -oil in the spark plug wells (very hard fix) -wiring loom plastic covers cracked (easy fix tbh) -subframe corrosion -leaking camshaft guidence seals (see oil in spark plug wells)

About 10 years ago I bought a 350 bhp JDM Subaru Legacy estate from an importer which still had the Fukushima dealer sticker on. Japanese imported cars are very popular in the UK because they are so well looked after. I hear that the “Shaken” test is very hard on car owners?

@@TheAlfaNut I had to look up “dogging”, and if it means what the search engine suggests, then, ahem, yes, it can and does happen - I was in an internet cafe once as my printer was down, and in the next booth... well... As for “shaken”, the equivalent is what I would know as the “warrant of fitness”, it tends to come around every three years, and yes, bare minimum for an import car you are looking at 1500 quid. Lots of people round here cycle their car purchases around “shaken” as dealers are required to renew them. All sounds like a big rort to me, but I love my Giulietta and she’s worth keeping. Cheers.

I'm told that the least reliable seem to be the JTS engines, with the best being the 1750 tbi and the 1.9jtdm. I haven't any personal experience of this, so just what I have been told.

The reason why I liked the 1750 so much is because it feels very light compared to the diesels and the 3.2 and for me that makes it the best all-rounder.

Sounds like a good combination and the 156 is a lot lighter than the 159 too!
