The new Peugeot 308 will be released soon in Australia. What should you expect from this more premium small car?

The 2023 Peugeot 308 is a development of the previous-generation car but with improvements to the platform and especially the interior technology. Under the bonnet is a familiar 1.2-litre turbo three-cylinder petrol engine making 96kW (128 hp), but there will also be a powerful 165kW (221 hp) plug-in hybrid model coming soon. And a wagon!
But what will the new 308 cost? That is the best question. We are expecting it to tick up quite a bit in price.
Rivals to the Peugeot 308 include the Volkswagen Golf, Mazda 3 and Cupra Leon … and maybe the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series too.
As always, we don’t accept advertising from car manufacturers, and we’re powered by Budget Direct - so this is an independent, honest review of the Peugeot 308.

A Peugeot owner here, thanks to Nathan's review of the 2008GT. Design is subjective, but I think their designers have been doing a cracking job of delivering an attractive and distinctive for their range. In terms of the ownership experience, the car has been nearly faultless in my 9 months of ownership. Yes, their depreciation will continue to be poor, but I much rather take a monetary hit than go back to another boring VAG product. Lastly, regarding the lack of horsepower, it is slow, but the engine is linear from take-off with little to no hesitation. I think it helps the full 230nm come in nice and early together with the lack of body mass makes it feel brisk in city driving.

I'm in the UK and I'm really pleased with my new Peugeot 308 GT petrol, it's a great car. I've had it almost a month and do I regret my decision YES. The reason why is that Peugeot are supplying the new 308 with missing equipment. Mine is missing...heated windscreen, wireless charging, 3D i-Cockpit, heated steering wheel and traction control deactivation. There should be a series of function buttons to the bottom right of the steering wheel. My car just has 5 blanking plates where these should be and this missing kit is not an isolated incident, search for - Peugeot Forum..Missing Specifications. It's my first and last Peugeot. I'm in touch with Peugeot UK but haven't got anywhere yet !!!

As always an excellent review Thomas. Do the dash toggle switches operate the climate control? Touch screen only was a negative of the previous model. I'm surprised mechanicals of nearly 10 years ago are carried over, good as they are. 7 years ago in Aus you could buy the excellent base manual for 22K...a bargain. Aussies will not choose this new model over a 3, Civic or Corolla. Peugeot used to build some of the best cars in the world (i.e 404 and 504 and 205 GTi). Not anymore, sadly.

Looks great! Lots of competittion at that price from the big German manufacturers though. If priced similarly it would be a hard sell over an A3 or 118i based purely on the badge alone I'd say. It looks like it might be worth that price, but resale and brand recognition alone are going to to hurt sales if you can get one of the big 3 with similar specs for around the same price.

It’s in the same price bracket as an A1. I know this is just my opinion, but I think the 308 is A LOT nicer than an A1. Specially if you compare base versions for each one 🙂

There has been a lot of problems with the 1.2 PureTech petrol in Europe due to premature timing belt failure. The timing belt is destroyed by too much gasoline in the engine oil. Also the 1.5 BlueHDI Diesel can have issues with the timing chain breaking and AdBlue tank related issues. The 1.6 petrol has also had its fair share of issues in the previous 308 generation.
@benp1559
@benp1559 Жыл бұрын
I have a 2015 308 with the 1.6T petrol, have not had any issues at all, although I decided to change the timing chain tensioner at around 70,000km just as a precaution. Less than $100, might as well.
@apn42
@apn42 Жыл бұрын
@@benp1559 That does sound extremely cheap. Did you do the work yourself? The 1.6 is a BMW engine that is also used in the Mini.
@benp1559
@benp1559 Жыл бұрын
@@apn42 This is just the tensioner. It takes less than half an hour to install and the part is under $100 to purchase from the dealer. I know the engine well. Apparently most of its issues were sorted by the time the T9 308 was released, mechanic told me he hasn't seen many issues with them. Changing the tensioner and regularly topping up oil will help to extend the life of the timing chain, as it really should last the life of the car (~200,000km).

Any comment of mine here will be biased!! Owning 2 Peugeots!! I will say though we still seem to miss out on the best newest Peugeots these days, not happy we never got the new star child the new 208 Hatch. Will this new 308 Hatch fill its void here? I don't really know. I don't think so. I'm also not a fan of the new Peugeot Emblem. Changing something as fundamental to a car brand its badge, and in this case with Peugeot, being the oldest car manufacturer in the world, doesn't sound like a great move to me.
