Adding a roof to your pergola is a great addition to make it more usable in inclement weather, and also to block out UV rays from the sun. This project is a relatively quick one that should take no more than a weekend and requires minimal tools to install. Polycarbonate roof panels are relatively inexpensive, lightweight, and can be installed by just one person!

Hi Glenn, great job with the video! You made it look simple to do in time and the pergola looks great! I'm starting from scratch (10 x 12) which means I can build the slope into the rafters, but m seeing a minimum of 5% grade from manufacturers that take away the look of a flat roof. Is there a lesser-grade slope that works? Thanks again for the video it was very helpful!

@@sunilfelix For a 5% slope on a 10' long roof, you would need 6" of drop. Take the length of your 'run' in feet and multiply it by 0.05, then multiply by 12 to get the necessary drop in inches.

very good, concise video. Two thoughts: 1) why not just raise the front (closest to house) up, thus avoiding having to cut and install a bunch of firring strips? and 2) did you buy the polycarbonate sheets locally? (if so, what supplier?) they seemed to fit perfectly without cutting/trimming which suggests you custom ordered them. No?
@GlennFrazeeYT
@GlennFrazeeYT 2 ай бұрын
1.) much easier to cut firring strips on an existing pergola 2.) the vendor I worked with is the one who sponsored the video. Their panels just happened to be the right size.

How is the water drainage without a gutter? I like this idea, but I don’t want to have water pouring straight down on my lawn and blowing back at me when it’s windy. I currently have a shingles roof with a gutter that I’m looking to replace with something more lightweight that lets more light in.

@Xyrium
@Xyrium 3 ай бұрын
I have to be honest, even with a gutter the falling rain will block back at you. So, while you'd be avoiding the small amount that is hitting the roof, you're not avoiding everything else. We have a similar situation with a gutter, and it's still just one of those things you have to deal with, unless you build four walls, and at that point, a room. :)
