I use the Hercules stand for my alto sax. I play in a symphony and love the sturdiness and the ability to add clarinet pegs.

Hi Nigel. I recently bought a Stagg Saxophone wall mount. It's ideal as it keeps my sax out of the dogs way and I can grab my sax whenever I want to. It also lets me see my sax in all its beauty all the time. The fixing is very strong using to two six inch screws that come supplied.

The higher the stand, the greater the fall, in case of a mishap. :) good for studio, not very good on a gig.

Except it doesn’t fall over or fall out. I’ve gigged that stand loads and it’s solid. If anything, people on stage are more aware of it as it’s in their vision more. 🙂

Hi Nigel, I use both the Hercules for my alto, soprano and band gigs, the ugly big one at home for the tenor. It was my first stand.

You did state that the k&M Tenor stand fits the Alto sax, there is an Alto stand exactly like the Tenor sax, it fits in the bell too, I use K&M for both Tenor and Alto, especially for travelling, fits in the bell perfectly, for the Bari I have a Hercules.

I use Hercules stands for both my Bari and Alto, I also have a small Hercules that folds up and stores in the bell. Great if I'm at band practice.

I have a Hercules stand the DS530BB, and its worked well for me. You said nothing will fall of it, and you are right, except, this was probably more my fault. I currently play a Yamaha YAS-280 and I accidentally got the low key J guard on the saxophone caught on the stand and didn't notice and and the sax swivelled around and fell off the stand. Thankfully I only had 2 bent keys that needed fixing and I have since learned how to set the saxophone on the stand without that happening again. I also have a K&M soprano saxophone stand which works great. Its sturdy and I have never felt my soprano was going to fall over on it and the legs can be unscrewed so that the stand can be put away in the saxophone bell, but I don't put things in the bell of my saxophones when in the case.

I use Hercules stands for all four of my saxophones but for traveling I use the K&M stands for my Alto,tenor,soprano,flute,and clarinet

I have the regular Hercules for my Tenor and I like how it holds on to the bell portion of the sax really well. However, I notice that I cannot adjust to have the stand make taller, so the bottom part of my sax would be touching the ground. Is there a way to fix that?

I use Aureum Deluxe (SS707) folding stands at home. They have twin peg holes also. I use a SaxRax double stand for gigs.

It's great to have someone to show us what is on the market, on that you do a fantastic job. But I have a Herculus and since I only play in my studio it's suits the bill.

Hi Nigel. I use a Hamilton double stand. Kind of a T-shape (KB962?) Takes alto and tenor, flute and clarinet / soprano. Solid, around 10 years old. Got it from Dawkes can't see it on their website. They are still available on ebay (careful which co you use as usual). Many decades ago used a thin steel one which fitted (well wrapped) in the bell.

Hello, Nigel .... I love my rock solid Hercules stand and use it for both my Alto and my Tenor. A couple of times you referred to a Tenor case with an outside storage pouch with adequate space for a second mouth piece (In a padded pouch), a reed geek, cleaning swabs, and a small case with a few extra reeds. What cases would you recommend? Thanks very much! Gary, Milwaukee, WI. USA

I had the same stand as you for gigs The K+S. But one day the stage was so small i steped on my stand and a leg broke off ,now i have the K+S Jazz Stand lighter quicker to put up and more stayble at home i have a big K+S stand like yours.

Pleased to see you recommend Hercules (smaller one suits tenor or alto) as I just got one from my daughter for Father's day the other week! Love the excellent finish and sturdy folding construction. Great piece of engineering and not expensive.

I bought the Hercules stand for my tenor but I never felt the horn was stable or secure, so I threw it in the trash. I only play/record in my home studio, so weight is not an issue, stability and horn safety is my concern. It seems there are very few options in the world of saxophone stands. Thanks for all of your awesome and helpful videos!

There was a K&M tenor stand separate from the alto. Have they condensed both into one stand that will work for either horn?

Nigel, just got a Hercules 730B and the relaxed position seems a bit small for my Martin CommIII, open mine measures about 3.5 inches, anyone else use this model with a larger bell tenor? I have used another tall stand for years, but wanted something a bit more secure and this seemed it, but when I take the horn out, the stand wants to come with. LOL

Hercules stand has innovated the stand, what I mean is that hugs the bell! Get one see what I mean, the arms fold in when you put your horn on it, that is the arms close to hug the bell, to keep it extra secure. Happy as heck with my Hercules!

I use the Hercules foldaway stand with a sop peg. But I have gone back to a curved soprano, and looking for some way of having that on a stand. Any ideas anyone?

I have that tall Herc stand for my Mark VI. It’s great, but only if no one is around. If it gets knocked over... omg, so it stays in my studio away from everyone but me. The twin Alto/ Tenor Herc stand is the best so far.

I have a Hercules bass clarinet stand. I too didn’t like the yellow part, so I took the stand apart (undid all the screws) and sprayed the yellow piece with a couple coats of black spray paint. Just make sure to find some course sand paper and sand the yellow surface first so it’s no longer glossy. The black paint will adhere better that way.

Cool - nice idea to "customise" your stand! The yellow is not for everyone and actually I can imagine a few gigs where it wouldn't be welcomed on stage too!

That was like a mirror image of my own saxophone stand journey! 😂 The generic, then the awesome H&M, the sturdy hercules with double pegs and finally the tall stand. I actually found a pole fitting H&M peg attachment that fits on the tall stand post, for doubles which is pretty cool. Thanks Nigel! J😎

I also like Hercules, I'm using one for when I'm playing away from home. At home I am using 2 wall mounted stands (don't remember the brand), one for alto and one for tenor I bought from amazon. I was going to use the tall stand, but with pets running around in the house I'm afraid they may knock the stand down.

K & M Jazz stand does the job for my alto. Fits nicely in the bell. Incidentally Nigel, are you still playing the Roland AE10 Aerophone?

I use the cheap Chinese stand, similar to the first one that you have shown. Since I use it less than five times a year, it's good enough for me. If I were to buy a new one I would go for the Hercules, which by the way also has been copied on Ali Express.

Hi Nigel, I've never seen the tall Hercules stand before. I've got the shorter one with the extra pegs for clarinet and flute. But I don't like it very much. My alto has fallen off it twice. The first time was no biggie so I wasn't really worried the second time, but that had cost me considerably in repairs as I bent the rods. My advice is if you're got one of those especially, be very careful how you place your sax on it and double check it before you walk away.

I bought a Hercules for my tenor (not sure which model) and ended up returning it because the bow came uncomfortably close to touching the floor. Got a K&M Jazz and like it much better. Lightweight and compact, but sturdy and the horn is very well balanced on it.

Great timing for the video. I have an El Cheapo stand and the bottom support hits the valve guards so it isn't so stable. I dropped a bag of nuts on the stand and the Sax fell off! Time for a re-think. Thanks Nigel.

I’ve got a few Hercules stands, the fixed one (part that grips the bell) is better than the self adjusting one. The biggest prob with the one’s you’ve bought Nigel is with the little V fingers that the bell sits against, you’ll need to tighten the bolts up so there’s some friction there otherwise it can just collapse against the stand and the sax can slump round. Not what you want when the Sax is up in the air and especially if it the fell off.

McGill Music Sax School .. I ended up with 2, one for alto and one Tenor, I locked the bar solid in position. If you’ve got the raised stand it would make a mess if your Sax fell off.

Currently have 2 Hercules stands, one standard and one that has the clipper grip on the bell (only because the standard got lost for years). However have been looking for the compact stands and the K &M has popped up a couple of times, so guess this has told me my next purchase haha

I've got a Hercules as well. I did have one of the el cheapo ones and my alto fell off it causing a huge dent. :( It did mean that I got to buy a new one though. :)

Actually that’s not a bad idea Michael if you want to keep your sax away from harm. Obviously not “portable” but I’ve been considering some myself for the studio.

Hercules is my choice. I purchased a Saxrax coz' of its triple sax options but - was a little disappointed. Personally I have not yet encountered anything with the quality - robustness - and or of reliability of Hercules. Hercules is the bench mark.

this has to be one of the lousiest gear videos i have ever seen.You showed a bunch of stands but i couldnt figure out how they hold the thing because you didnt bother showing that.
