Hi Jay, Enjoying this type of content. Understanding their audiophile journey to current system. Understanding what they are trying to achieve, key challenges - what has worked well, not so well. types of music listened to, and anything learned that would be of general interest, would make entertaining content of general interest. BTW - It was good to see a system in a room where room treatment was not overlooked. The balance between sound absorption/diffraction is a challenge and affects the presentation enormously.

Yeah - this stuff is great to see. Insights and lessons learned in the room building would be great. Anything that is NOT in the general influencer nonsense. Tru Hi Fi insights / helpful knowledge on how to make systems the best. ( as much data driven comparisons than subjective if possible to validate the descriptions ) Thank you.. Get some rest too .. don't burn yourself out.

The bass probably sounds good because the couch is almost against the back wall. The bass is reinforced by the rear corners but is likely out of phase with the mids and tweeters. The setup might be perfect for a set of large Maggies. I would recommend moving the speakers closer to the front wall and move the sofa forward to keep the same distance from the speakers. Leave the subs off for now and evaluate the bass response while moving the speakers nearer the front wall. Clarity and bass will be much improved. Might not want the subs. Soundstage will be just as big but with more focus. When the setup is right, the bass will sound nearly the same all around the room. But; if it sounds great now and it is not broken, don't fix it.

Beautiful room and gear. It looks like the balance of the room is shifted away from the front wall. A lot of space behind the speakers but minimal behind the listener. My preference would be to shift everything about 3 ft back towards the front wall. But I have to assume this was once tried. Definitely a nice setup.

18' x 24' x 9' is a super great size. I see so many guys with this size of room and have their speakers 3' off the wall, ugh. Even the difference between 6' and 12' is quite noticeable regarding space and localization. Remember, a base min. for reflected sound is 10 ms. Use 1 foot per ms as an approximation. I generally have 12' behind the speakers whenever possible.

Sometimes practicality has to play a role. My room is same 18 x 24 however ceiling is vaulted, 10’ at walls to 15’9” at center peak. We use the room also for yoga studio and entertain a lot with 12-15 persons. If I had speakers that far out into room, the usage of room would be severely compromised. I did consider the Magico, specifically the M3 due primarily to the higher efficiency for my Wavac 805 MkII amps. Also considered the PS Audio FR30, which are amazing. In the end I chose the VS Ultra 55. With their rear tweeter, much like the FR30, allows me to place them 4’ from front wall and still deliver the open airy soundstage I was looking for.

I heard a lot of Magico speakers,the wooden ones and the aluminium ones but NEVER heard them sound harsh or sterile,but you gotta set them up right and pair them with very good amps like Soulution,Spectral and Boulder,Magico gives you a new high-end sound that was never heard before,that is the USP of Magico,they present the new sound,a lot of speaker brand went into sleep but Magico jumped into that gap with new sounds.

Magico haven't built wooden speaker enclosures for many years. My S3 and Q3 you could feel resonances in the aluminium enclosure when they are playing, but the carbon fiber side panels on my M3 are dead quiet.

See, I would rather just get actually well measuring equipment so I don't have to match design faults up from one piece to one. "Oh this speaker sounds bright if it's paired with x amp" is a really long way of saying "this speaker has design flaws and they need to be cancelled out with more flawed equipment"

Eric, you have the best gear money can buy. Other than re-placement of speakers, subs, couch etc, your coming to the end of options. I would guess to say, spending additional funds, would only provide a diminished return. May I suggest, if your not able sit and enjoy your incredible system, you may want to find a new hobby.

I can't recall how many times I heard Me and I by Jay and in essence looked as a hard push self-promoting post, kind of Midas touch story. Almost fell for the guy. Sorry Jay when too much is too much couldn't refrain myself.

completely agree, I enjoy seeing and learning about systems way beyond reach of the typical audiophile. Instead of me or I, how about more of the client. the voice coils of my speakers are 1/5 the distance of thee major length of the room. I've played with distance quite a bit and this is what works for me.

The fact that the speakers sound better that far from the back wall says more about the deficiencies of Magico speakers than it does about a concept of creating that much space. That kind of distance would never be necessary or desirable with Wilson on Vandersteen speakers.

The sound of Magico speakers presents a dilemma. They are "hyper" detailed and the beryllium tweeter can be forward and brash sounding. So, basically you have to spend thousands of dollars on ancillary equipment to try and control a super bright beryllium tweeter to try and tame it. I am very familiar with the sound of Magico speakers, since my good friend has a high end audio shop and carries the full line. I also go to audio shows, and have heard these speakers set up in a variety of rooms. I have even heard a system set up by the owner of Magico, Alon Wolf, (How can you get better than that). As a rule, I always like to start with a more forgiving type of speaker and build around that. You can get glorious sound without nearly as much of an investment. Then of course use speaker placement, absorption and diffusion to dial in the speakers for maximum potential. JMHO

You can have the best audio equipment, but still the signals have to go from the source to the amplifier and then to the loudspeakers. Without broadcasting in the best possible way, the equipment will be unused.

Agree, turn the subs around and switch the phase switch 180 degrees, you get more direct impact from the subs - IMO. I have the same RELs. Every installation is different.

I think the Magico and Von Scheikert's speakers plus or minus is depending on what the building owner has to work with for room size. In more mid to smaller size rooms you can't pull the speakers way away from the wall like that. So other brands with different arrays and set ups tend to do better in smaller rooms. It's a nice room for sure. Personally I tend to like taller speakers in height. Sometimes people will have amazing stage but only goes up halfway up the wall to 3/4's I like it more where the room is blown out and the walls do not seem to exist or the ceiling height it is just full immersion. You going to play it some in future videos? You live in GA or another state?

Familiarity, after you have something set up for some time u get used to it and a change many times seems like an improvement. I've been into audio since H.S., had a friend (still is) that had a hi end store. I've heard lots of good systems. My personal system, My pre amp is older and was given to me, my latest power amp, under $1000 dollars, my speakers cost me $300, were about $1400 new in the late 80's. Speakers are most important, then a good source, everything in-between just needs to be decent. Cables make minimal difference, power cords are pure placebo. Things like speaker cable risers, LMAO. My speakers were compared in the store to some $5000+ dollar martin logans and every customer thought mine were better, so there ya go. Since U Tube I've gotten to see more of what hi end is and it's lots of snake oil and eye candy sold by placebo sorry to say. I get it's a hobby and fun to play with gear but much of it unnecessary for actual good music reproduction. Maybe I just have an ear for matching components, maybe no ear at all but as said have listened to very good stuff and compared to mine many times. By looks you'd think mine sounds like crap compared to some of these systems, but that's what I meant about eye candy.

Great comment! Both hi-fi and youtube reviewing is over the top and full of BS. Many times, like in this channel, it is simply marketing. Other times it is all forms of neurosis and OCD. I'd rather spend my time listening to great music than tweaking with the components in my system that create no difference for music reproduction at all. I'd rather spend my money on good records than buying "hi-end" cables and other components.

It's quite possible you're friends preferred the "tonality" of your system to the Martin Logan one, however in terms of factors like dynamic contrast, 3D soundstage size and midrange instrument separation, it is highly unlikely your system can beat a well selected six or even five figure system... Which does not rule out the possibility the "tonality" of your system outweighs all of these factors for you. I have a somewhat similar experience owning Dynaudio stand mounts - it is rare that I find a speaker at any price point for which I prefer the tonality to the humble Dynaudios and their unique Magnesium Silicate Polymer mid-bass woofers. But there is no way I can claim it is technically superior on other parameters to say a $28,000 B&W 802 D4.

Bollocks . There’s not many cheap systems at shows I’ve sat and listened to for a long period, in fact I don’t think there are any ant thought wow that’s amazing, but I sat in front of a 100k or probably more 😮 at ascot in uk (pursuit perfect system filmed it ) and it blew my mind , I felt like I could reach out and touch the singer , I then knew what holographic meant in hifi terms . So come on people get a grip . I do think though that you have to jump in 3-4 k in price points to get I nice notable benefit. 2-300 don’t waist your money . That was my 2 pence worth 😂

BTW, it's impossible to determine how the room is configured and where the speakers are located in the room when you only show the room from one perspective. We can't tell if the camera is on the back wall or 15' off the back wall or where the listening position is located.

The elephant in the room. S3Mk2 is too small for that space. The starting point must be correctly sizing the speaker to the room.

IMHO all of the owners unhappyness with the sound, or things that could be improved... are all acoustics issues. And without going into how the room mode is making the bass less good, I'll just mention that that is pretty much the worst place to put the CD cabinets, unless you want the tweeters delivery to get smutzzed up.

@@jaysaudiolab It has nothing to do with that, it has to do with having experienced various acoustic effects, both good and bad, and being able to understand what those effects do to the audio as it arrives to the listeners ear. But hey, do feel free to think I'm a wanker and continue to keep stacked 5 sided resonator chambers right at the first reflection point and continue to 'be open to improvement in the clarity etc of cymbals and voice. And don't forget to be bummed out by the bass that isn't right while thinking your store bought 'bass traps' are eradicating the bass modes... But for sure don't believe me or even consider what I say because I'm just a poor person who doesn't own 120k$ mono-blocks. Sheesh, I point out obvious acoustic problems in the setup as they relate to the expressed desires of the owner and your response is to have a dick waving contest. See ya.

@@jaysaudiolab That's your issue, because it wasn't criticism, it was a helpful clue as to something that is most likely causing audio harm. It isn't about 30k$ speakers, I know those speakers and they do not have those faults, and it is not about any of the gear, no matter the price of the gear. It is about the physics of sound. PHYSICS. Physics happens no matter the cost of the gear, no matter the cost of the room, no matter the beer you drink. Physics is unavoidable and it is the biggest influence in any playback room. Dang you're thin skinned.

Looks like a very uninspiring room to me. I think more effort should be placed on interior design. Money can buy expensive components and an audiophile lifestyle but not necessarily good style. I'm sure the set-up sounds great but to me I need to enjoy more than just the sound, I need to be engaged emotionally in a space that feels great. I would really like to start seeing how audiophiles successfully incorporate sound in inspiring rooms other than a basement. All we ever see on KZfaq are the typical basement with sound treatments on the walls, no windows, and no other elements like vaulted ceilings or asymmetrical walls - how do others successfully deal with these rooms?

@@stuartkarlson307 Yes, exactly ... that's the first thing I noticed regarding his room... the rear boundary proximity. That places the listener in a pressure maxima for a good bit of the low bass energy (which is fine)... doesn't allow for Haas kicker type late arrivals from the rear hemisphere of the room (would be nice). It could still be spectacular, obviously. The challenge would be boundary interference off the back wall, ... nulling critical midbass punch/texture. I explore absorption. As best practices for listener up against the rear wall is massive, effective, broadband absorption. That said, I've experienced many studios/listening rooms that punch way above their weight... compromised approach, that still gets the job done. fwiw; My room is ~31 feet deep. (quasi rule of thirds front to back) L/R mains are about 10 feet off the front wall. Listening about 10 feet from them. The rear wall is about 10 feet behind the listening position. Nearfield subs (4x15").

I design my own speakers. You honestly cant tell between a $50 tweeter and a $5000 tweeter if in a well designed speaker. Its total BS. That said, its ALOT of work to get your system right regardless of how much you spend. No small feat.
