Nice review! I built a pair of these earlier this year. Absolute blast to build, I used White Oak veneer w/ Sangria colored stain. Did the Perfectionist revision as well! Best looking and sounding speakers I have ever owned!!! Looking forward to more reviews from you!

To answer your question: I believe they are the best value. Sitting here listening to a pair right now. Looked at the other expensive options like you did and settled on the Swans. Built mine about a year ago and am glad i did. Had nothing to compare them to. Just auditioned a pair of Polk R200 and they are going back.

Man I’ve messed up like that before man. Mdf is such a bastard. But if you put a few layers of sealer it hardens the wood and preps it for painting. It took two layer and sanding in between coats. To get it pretty smooth and nice. Then I sprayed with a few coats of clear coat. Also like u mentioned I used bondo. To fill the gaps. It’s not perfect either but man I love the way they look and sound. The sound especially is amazing on these

Good job! I just built a pair of these but I went crazy with the crossover upgrades from Parts Express. 😁. They sound way better than my HECO Celan Revolution 3s! I think you have to spend like $3000-4000 from a major brand that goes through a distribution network to get the same level of quality with the upgrades I did.

I picked up the powered version of these, the M3A’s and I absolutely love them. Crazy underrated speakers. Nice build!

@@ThriftShopReviews it’s the MKI version. The MKII uses different drivers. I’m not sure they still sell the MKI’s anymore.

@@ThriftShopReviews not DIY. That are prebuilt using the same drivers as the DIY kit and real wood cabinets. They retailed at $1,200 when they released so a little expensive but they are beautiful.

Built a set in 2020 upgraded crossover and oak veneer. They are the closest to my Dynaudio build at thousands more. An excellent speaker at low cost

I bought six pairs for $189 a pair 6 years ago , modified them with #4 and sold them for $600 a pair, there are more mods after #4, on ASR

O my I have these but the crossover has the cheapest parts that you can buy vary bottom . Cheap cheap but the speaker are ok and saying that I only paid 225 for them and up grade didn’t do much I put in about 200 for upgrade the crossover with better sound

I'd like to build some, but have a cabinetmaker put a real veneer on it professionally. Like rosewood, cherry or black walnut.

It’s not mdf? Huh. Either way I think you can seal it first somehow or at least prime w oil based. Also check out what bondo glaze is :)

MDF has many types and grades. It's not the mdf you normally see on speakers. Like I mentioned its more like pressed cardboard. Yes, I wish I used bondo first. Maybe if I redo the cabinet I will go this direction.
