Quick note for A40 or A50 users. If you switch your audio output to Linear PCM, HDMI Device Type to AV Amplifier, channels to 7.1, and turn OFF the Dolby on your headset (A50 station will show a star), that will actually give you true surround sound. What the Dolby button is doing is duplicating channels in the other drivers to help simulate a Surround Sound effect for instances where Dolby isn't available. Turning the Dolby button OFF allows for all 7 channels to play their native sounds and give you the true surround sound signature, and makes everything sound much more natural and clean. I see many ASTRO users with the Dolby button on, as I used to do until I tuned my software. They arent using their headsets correctly. Not shooting shots at anyone. I'm just trying to help fellow ASTRO users get the full experience they paid for.

Once you get the splitter sadly, the 7.1 Dolby surround is incredible. Better than any other headsets minus the arctis pros. Maybe I’m just biased but I don’t think there’s a better headset than this one. Sadly the price destroys the common man just picking these up. Awesome review!!

I have to agree about positional audio on the A50, they excel everywhere except there. I prefer my wired Plantronics RIG 500 Pro when playing Warzone as they are better than anything I've tried positionally and I've tried a lot of headsets and own 5 different pair. I love the A50s and have been using them for years, matter fact I just ordered a backup set since my Gen 2 are starting to show their age. Plastic and cloth only lasts so long before it starts degrading. My backup is also Gen 2 (new old stock) as I'm not switching to the Gen 4 2.4ghz and love the sound and build of the Gen 2 vs the newer revisions.

Have you tried the Audeze Penrose headphones, i only hear extraordinary things about their superior sound scale. I am most likely ordering these soon for PC since my pc has no optical port, as well as for PS5 use. currently i have the Astro A 50 and use the dolby surround via optical connected directly to my tv instead of the adapter to keep complete 4k and 120hz settings on hdmi 2.1 Love your reviews man they have helped alot deciding on headphones in past especially with PS5

This headset work 100% if you play on tv that support passThrough mode oh monitor but that’s super rare , all 3rd party headset have hard time working 100% on the next gen because they remove the optical out

I like the leather because it will keep people around me from hearing my loud af VC but otherwise it doesn’t really matter if I get leather or fabric for the earmuffs

I love the mute feature. I have these for PC/Xbox. So quick and easy and gets it out of the way. Way better then feeling for a button first

I have this headset standing here, I recently replaced it for an steelseries artics 9x. As of the new consoles don't have an optical port on the new consoles, you'll have to connect it with an USB, which is a direct steal, as you now have to buy an additional splitter. The sound also massively dropped compared to the optical, you can't compare the quality. With the Steelseries bluetooth connection I have my rich sound back. Hope this was helpful.

I’ve tried and tested so many headsets and I can honestly say anything £100 and above will give you the same distance and clarity in hearing footsteps, especially in Warzone. As long as the general sound is clean and smooth enough, I only care about footsteps. I had the Astro A50 and I didn’t like it for 2 reasons. To my hearing it wasn’t loud enough and the positional audio was mediocre. SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless is so much better and probably one of the best for footsteps and positional audio in general. However, I had 2 of them and on both the driver either popped or something disconnected in the headset. After lots of research and speaking to SteelSeries, I was told not to listen to them at max volume as the vibrations from how loud it gets simply caused the issues on both headsets. To me that stupid and if they’re selling a product for £300 and advertising it as a high frequency response headset, I would expect them to do a proper reliability test before selling them on the market. I’m currently using the Astro A20 Gen 2 and I can honestly say Astro I think developed the perfect headset by accident and priced it so cheap at £100. Seriously guys it’s a great headset and has the same velour ear pads as the Astro A50 but even better memory foam inside. A50 is a less dense memory foam and almost feels like normal sponge, but A20 has real dense memory foam. Headband on the A20 is just a rubber one, but it doesn’t bother me. A20 also has 3 EQ profiles preinstalled and same as the A50 it has the button on the headset to choose. Astro, Pro and Signature. Put it on Pro and wow you’ll love it. In my opinion it also get louder than the A50. As someone who has a lot of experience in audio and tried so many headsets, following is my opinion based on only hearing footsteps in Warzone and from how far and clear I start to hear footsteps. Astro A20 - 30 metres Astro A50 - 30 metres, but again not great at hearing clear positional audio every time. SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless - 32 metres. Seriously guys to get really good positional audio you don’t have to spend so much money. If you’re someone who really cares about competitive positional audio as well as overall general good and clear sound, get the Astro A20 Gen 2. Also, again in my opinion and based on my hearing, all this Dolby Surround Sound and Sony Tempest 3D Audio is definitely a deal breaker if you care about proper positional audio and footsteps. For that stick to Stereo. Surround gives you a more immersive experience as it increases the dynamic range, but it ruins any competitive audio for direction and footsteps.

Just ordered the razer kaira pro for ps5 the new one with haptic ($200). Hope it’s nice. Looks and by reading seems to be good. We’ll see. Others have good reviews and this is newer with more tech….. stay safe happy Holliday’s.

I have the ps pulse for ps5 and have tried Arctis 7p. I think they both suck. You can not get pin point directional sound on the Pulse. I have 3d audio turned on. I can hear footsteps all around me but have trouble if it's coming from the left or right. I don't like arctis because there isn't a separate chat and game volume adjustment.

I thought the A50s supported the 3D audio. It said on the set up menu that they did.

theres a swich on the back so i only use 1 base station for my pc/ps5. for gen 5 l like to see better quilty speakers my first pair of astro a 50 gen 4 poped a speaker due to high bass so the speakers aint that great (with that said a ordered another pair of astro a50 4gen. and being able to turn the eco system off in the software could be nice as i for my selv never use it and dislike when it turns off useing my phone or somthing

pc and xbox has dolby atmos for headphones which is better than sonys 3d audio in my opinon as it works on all games not just certain first party titles like sony .

I’m struggling to understand the need for the hdmi / optical adapter. Is anyone able to fully explain the differences? It seems like everything is fully functional within the ps5 menu? Including 3d audio?

Got these headsets in February and already having charging issues with this headset. After surfing the web for a solution and there seems to be a lot of problems with this headset. Sound, features is good. But it won't last. Not worth $300. Also the plastic starts to peel in several places for no apparent reasons. And good luck reaching out to Astro. U have to submit a trouble ticket and wait back for a response. When u can't find a number for a company that's always a bad sign as they clearly do not want to be contacted.

Don’t bother with the splitter, its just to allow you to use the game/chat mixer on the headset. Just use the usb and control the game/chat mixer through the PS5 sub menu. You will the have the 3D sound as well.

I dont know if u plugged in the optical cable in your tv monitor but this headset sounds way better than anything on the market right now

How is everyone solving the charging dock not staying on in rest mode!?!

Okay I’ve been looking for days and I can’t come to a conclusion on what the best headset is for ps5 and the new 3d sound. I’ve watched tons of videos and have read through hundreds of reviews and can’t come to a conclusion. How I sound to others doesn’t bother me as long as people can make me out. All I care about is the audio quality when playing games and the only game that I need it to be absolutely dialled in are fps games such as COD and apex, I have no issues with getting just a pair of headphones then getting a mic to go with it, I just want to know what the best headset is for the ps5 and it’s new features within a reasonable budget, reasonable meaning I’m not spending 500$ on a headset. Can anyone help me out, I’m considering the A40s, arctic pros, arctic 7p, as well as some other if anyone reading this has any input please help. Thanks
