I'm not a snake fan, but I like this. Like you said, there's something organic about the pose.

This must be the hottest item in the fountain pen world right now. Several members of my fountain pen group have one, and I've stumbled across eight videos about this pen rest in the last week along, and without looking for it at all. It is beautiful, but I doubt I'll buy one. I spent more than a year camping in desert areas with at least a dozen species of rattlesnakes, and I never used a tent. I never woke up with one in my blankets, but I didn't find one, or two, in my camp, sometimes only a few feet away. Can't say I've loved rattlesnakes much since then. I already have too many pen rests, anyway, including some that cost three times what this one does, only to find that my two most used rests are not my most expensive ones. One I use a lot is simple walnut that only cost a few dollars, but it holds seven of the little vials that samples on ink come in, and I find this extremely hand when using dip pens. The only I use more for fountain pens cost about a hundred and seventy-five bucks, but it was a present, an I was grateful to get it. It has a marble base and brass risers that hold two pens. It also has a deep brass cubicle at each end for inkwells. It's probably coincidence but a large Diamine ink bottle fits into these cubicles perfectly. I use a lot of ink and some of my favorite pens hold very little ink so I have to refill every day when I'm using one of these pens. I prefer pen rests that have built in ink wells to make refilling faster and easier. I actually like ink wells more than pens rests on the whole, and I love it when I can get a pen rest and an inkwell as a unit. That's one of the things I love about J. Herbin ink bottles. A pen rest is built right onto the bottle. Very cool and convenient. I just played around with one of the snake rests for about fifteen minutes but I don't think the scales are an issue. The contact points won't damage a pen, and certainly not urushi. My only issue is that a pen doesn't seem terribly secure on the snake. I don't like rests that are shallow enough to let the pen come off if it gets bumped. But this is one cool rest for those who don't mind the cost, and who do like snakes.
