Quick Correction: The defending champions going into the 2016 T20 World Cup were Sri Lanka, NOT England. 🤦🤦 It seems I got my wires crossed with the present day, as England were the 2022 T20 World Cup winners (and current defending champions as I write this). Thanks to those who pointed this out, I hope you enjoy the video regardless.

As a West Indian I had tears in my eyes watching the 2016 final. It was such a painful win. All the things that Captain sammy said after the match still hunts my mind, all the difficulties they had to go through but still came out on top. God bless them. It's sad to see that even if we win people still look down on us.

I remember this well. We were sitting in a pub in Hua Hin, Thailand after playing our own cricket that day at the Hua Hin International Cricket Sixes with a smug (not for long) Englishman and mostly Australians and you've never seen a smile wiped off a person's face so quickly as during the famous Brathwaite's final over.

I remember watching that Semifinal at University - one of the lecture rooms on campus was booked and the room was packed with at least 100-120 people. My friends had decided to stay only till the end of India's innings but I convinced them to hang around because watching Gayle would be entertaining - turned out to be a short stay for the Universe Boss. On the other hand, we all ended up staying on sensing India might wrap things up quickly. The mood in that hall changed very gradually from festive to funereal as the Windies just seemed to have an answer or a lifeline every time. Every ball was punctuated by gasps, groans and gaalis (swearing). Even though the result didn't go India's way, I'll always fondly remember being in that room full of friends and strangers - all moving and experiencing that match almost like one organic entity. A core memory.

My favourite run chases, as an unbiased kiwi, are ones where we pull out miracles from nowhere. The top order falls apart and somehow, 6,7,8 & 9 do crazy things. The one that regularly pops up in my feed is an ODI from back in 2007 vs Australia. Chasing 340 odd, losing 70/4 fairly early, McMillan and McCullum demolished all and sundry.

My favourite run chases: 1. Australia vs South Africa, (Johannesburg) 2006: I still can watch that match a 100 times. What a beautiful match it was. It happened right after the 2003 WC final and honestly it was just a pleasure to watch Australia loose that high total match :P !! 2. India vs Sri Lanka, (Hobart) 2012: The one game that made Virat Kohli, the true superstar. 3. India vs Australia: Although India lost this match, I would still remember it for one of greatest innings ( and also least talked about) of Sachin 4. India vs England, (Lords) 2002 Natwest Final: The one ODI game that changed the Indian cricket trajectory. 5. Australia vs Afghanistan, Mumbai(2023): This game would be talked about in cricketing history for decades to come. Tell me one game which had a bigger one man show than this one. 6. England vs Ireland, World Cup, Bangalore, (2011): Never thought a Minnow team would deliver such a performance. 7. India vs Australia, Coca Cola Cup, Sharjah, 1998: Every Sachin fan would remember 2 games played at this venue. Truly classic Sachin. 8. India vs Pakistan, 2003 World Cup: High intensity India vs Pak game.
