Is this the worlds most powerful bass guitar, equipped with this waffler bass single coil pickup?
I decided to try and design a guitar pickup for maximum coverage of the strings. When a guitar string vibrate the location of a standard pickup may determine how much harmonic content is in the signal due to the position of nodes and anti nodes. When a string is pressed the length of the string is changed and therefore the position of nodes and anti nodes also changes.
So when a chord is played or as you move up and down the neck and also across strings the harmonic content changes. Having a longer pickup allows capturing more of the movement of the string ensures that the pickup cant sit only on a node.
My first impressions were that this creates a warm acoustic-ish sound, similar to the guitar version, which is not what I was expecting, but it makes sense as the pickup is similar to a sound hole/acoustic guitar which amplifies the whole strings vibration.
This is approximately 8k turns, I think the pickup could do with some more turns. Maybe a future video. ..
My calculation of most powerful pickup is based on length of coverage for a single coil pickup, number of magnets and number of turns. If there is a better way to calculate this, I would love to know.
Do let me know what you think of this design, and what you would change in future versions? And I may try it.
If you enjoyed this video, it would mean the world to me if you could share this video with anyone who may also enjoy it. Thank you!

Since you've been making the diy rhodes, maybe you could try making a 'guitar with keys' like some baroque instruments have. could be quite fun?!

I like your idea. Hard to judge the sound without point of reference. It sounds ok, not too powerful, and definitely out of tune. I believe only the magnets around the perimeter actually do their job (= if you removed all the magnets in the middle not much would change.. ) I believe For what you are trying to do you would have to wind all your magnets individually and then connect them or do it as one piece one by one 💀 Then you would have your most powerful pickup. I'm thinking if they were all wound individually in series then there could be much less wire around each individual post. I also watched the other video with the guitar, and imo the pickups deffo don't sound bad,, Cheers for the idea 🤔

Correct. The magnets in the center are WAY too far from the coil to be contributing much of anything. One big magnet would do much better.

It looks like a 96 well microtiter plate with magnets, lol. Actually, they are 12 X 8, so you've done one better. It's a really cool sound.

I have suggestion. Can you rearange the pickup so you can wind wire around the magnet poles(i can see there is usefull space between them) and again around the bobin. in the inner area where the poles are magnetic field is strongest. Youl be able that way to put double the wire, 25 or more khoms.

You're pissin' in the wind here Deano. If this was a good idea it would have been done already, in the coked up high hair 80's. Why on Earth would anyone need a hotter pickup when a preamp already does that job? Just make one that goes to 11. Nigel Tufnell knew that, and you're not paid to be as confused as Nigel.

That is the only direction that I do it, you should know this by now haha. I like what you are saying, so we need led lights in the pickup?

@@deancoyle A pickup needs a spare tire, a gun rack and a cooler for your beer. That leaves space for your girl beside you and your dog on the floor. Put a camper in the bed and a bed in the camper, throw your piano (gently now) in the back and hit the road. If you make it as far as Canada we'll put a band together and rock the world. Parts of it, anyway. Is that something you'd be interested in?

@@deancoyle I have over 500 songs to my name and more in the works. They could all use some cool keys. I posted some, one time on Band camp, The Renaissance Men. When I go busking I play for 4 hours a day. It's time to level up to a band to play indoor gigs again. I saw some awesome bands this summer, including my new favourite, Lord Huron. Very inspirational, I need to play it forward. If you're gonna print a van, make it something cool like a 69 Econoline, with a shag rug paint job and a candy sparkle ceiling. I know a beautiful busker girl who might come with us, if she ever tells me her real name. Right now she answers to the name "*itch" if she answers at all. *itches be crazy!
