In regards to the loose cylinder head - Someone made a really good point that the OEM studs may have a midsection that is thicker and that that is why the holes seemed too large in my cylinder head. I do have OEM studs on hand and I tested this - the OEM studs do have a midsection that is not threaded but it is not thicker than the all thread studs I used. Here is the OEM stud part number - 90116-08394-00 - You can see in pictures the OEM stud actually appears to be thinner in the unthreaded section. The more you know.
@shoominati23
@shoominati23 Жыл бұрын
It should be, as if the bolt is thicker in the midsection - it creates a stress riser that will mean you will have a heartbreaking snapped bolt after a rebuild or two

You are really the best Michael, its so cool that you show when shit doesnt go your way and like you say a lot of youtubers only show the sunny site like there are never problems, wrong parts and stuff like that, but everybody that does or has really worked a lot with engines with scooters or quads knows these problems, no matter how good and meticolous you work, shit will happen, to show it just says a lot about your personality, i really really appreciate that very much, and how you deal with problems shows how good you really are. like said ten times before i love your videos dude, keep on ! you could easily make a tv show!

Generally speaking with the bearing seals the Channels are on the inside facing the bearing, this is for two reasons the flat outside gives a good support for the shaft that is entering the bearing as these seals are usually laced inside with tiny wires to aid strength, if you pull an old one apart you will see the wires inside for support, with the channel inside facing the bearing this acts like a small grease trap so the bearings remain lubricated as much as possible, I.E when you switch the engine off that seal will hold a small amount of oil inside so upon first start up the oil will be there straight away to lubricate the bearing off the bat, this is generally what I have learned and have applied to all my vehicle work, not saying it’s gospel and to be taken as sure but I haven’t had a premature bearing failure as of yet, hope this helps for the future and people reading this…… again always love the videos……. Smashing out the work and top quality videos too 👍

Bearings should always be tapped in with a one piece tool that fits the OD of the bearing, they make installer kits. Seals always get installed with the flat surface facing away from the liquid. Bearings all have numbers on them, it is usually universal and can me looked up on the internet for size. I worked at a two cycle motor shop when I was school, I machined and rebuilt motors all day long, usually 4-6 per day depending on the motor. I learned fast to check parts before assembly. The “Philips” head screws are actually JA screws, look the same but require a different driver.

When I installed my crank I used a 40mm 1" drive socket and a small section of pipe. I slid the socket over the crank shaft then I slid the pipe on and found a nut that threaded onto the crank and just slowly tightened the nut and it pulled the crank right in place. It worked a treat. But I'm going to have to pick up one of those tools from tusk for my next round of rebuilds.
