no one complains about skate 3 because skate 3 wasn’t marketed as a “realistic” skating game. to me, money was spent in the wrong places on this game. i think they should have focused on perfecting the physics and bugs where you glitch through your board or the ground. i’m not saying that’s an easy task. having the first update being purely aesthetics and 3 maps doesn’t seem like the right move to me. personally, i’d be fine skating around as a stick figure wearing shoes if the game had no bugs and the most realistic settings possible. at least give an option to play on classic or hardcore modes. no sense in taking away what people are used to, but adding another difficulty would improve the game ten fold.

I think they should add a physics menu in the game officially.

Quebec’s probably my most played map currently Even on console it still plays well and the bowl flows really nice too

Skate 3 does have a gravity slider, it’s put in to three different difficulties easy, normal and hard

I just don’t want to skate at skate parks. It’s the same thing over and over again. I want unique obstacles and interesting gaps that I can find that embrace the creativity of skateboarding. I don’t want to tre flip crook some standard 8 stair rail over and over again. EA skate’s maps are so versatile, large, and interesting. Skater XL’s maps barely even have hills.

if they just used 3-4 months on getting the stats menu, about 2 months of re-fitting of clothes and fixes the smith grind then everyone should be happy they don't even need to make new maps, they got free maps made from the community, they could just choose to add the ones they see as "finished", they already got the mod.io intergrated witch is amazing for the gaming community

I dont understand those who complain the "floatiness" of console version. The idea is to adjust how you do your line to do it the way you would want it to look. If that makes any sense. Try pushing less. Might have to do a high pop at points. Adjust when you pop. Or thats how I see it. Ive only played on vanilla and have seen alot of footage on vanilla and looks really good. You just need to adjust

If there was any map that would be unskatable on vanilla physics, it’s the brallie house mod, not Quebec.

The fact that the game can be so heavilly altered on PC does really create crazy expectations on console. Easy Day should just hire these brilliant modders to help mold the experience on console for more realism. Garret your not right but your not wrong either. Its still the best skate game ever created even with all the bugs, glitches, crashes and even without the mods on console

It is frustrating to play this level on consol because the gravity and speed settings are not optimized for such a small park. And that’s a problem, because why the fuck do you release a map on consol that only feels good to skate if it’s modded??? The problem is that with mods you can just tweak the settings just right until you get the perfect results for the particular map. I don’t think it would be that hard to add the mods to consol. I think they just don’t want to because not all parks gonna be okay for vanilla and they don’t want to complicate the casual gamer’s experience. This whole thing sucks. That the same game is completely different on pc/consol. I feel like a fucking joke as a console player. But then yet again - I could buy a gaming pc but I don’t want to. Cause I am just a casual player.

5:30 the thing is, it looked floaty since I first watched videos of Skater XL played on console (long before watching PC players). I was hesitant to buy the game for that reason, but became addicted to the controls

I played Slam City Jam on THUG for Years so I love the fact we have a Canadian Park on console.

The Quebec skatepark is just a slower paced tech type map and isn’t different than most of the maps is console players are used too. I personally like the map, but some people aren’t used to the slow pace of the map

The reason everyone is so pissed at easy day is that they’ve been pretty much silent for 6 months and this update is supposed to be the result of 6 months of work. Pretty much nothing in the update is actually made by easy day, it’s all content that others have created. They’ve put zero effort in tweaking the gameplay or adding features. THATS why people are so angry at this shit update.

It’s called a nollie backside flip because it flips exactly like a regular backside flip. You just happen to be popping it off the nose.

concerning trick nomenclature... a nollie trick doesn't have the same "side" as a regular one just because it's a similar move. Nollie is a stance of its own... so backside means you are turning while facing backwards. When you do a nollie fs flip, you are looking what's ahead of you, you are facing your "front". The "same move/same side" thing just works with fakie tricks (for example.. fs flip and fs halfcab flip), basically because fakie just means you're going backwards (a fakie nosegrind is a nosegrind, not a switch 5-0).

I had played Skater XL on day 1 of its release for early access (December 2018) and my first impression was " it feels too floaty". This was Way before any stats menus so there wasn't anything to compare it to. Now, that doesn't mean i don't still have fun playing the game, but, the vanilla settings will always feel off to me. I do use Stats Menu when i play now and it does make it feel better.. however, i don't think we should have to mod the game to make it achieve its main goal of being Realistic.. it just feels wrong. To be honest, when i make videos on Skater XL, i prefer to use the vanilla settings so im showing off the game as the Devs intended it to be instead of "lying" to potential buyers about what the game has to offer. Yet every time i do that, the comments are always "Use the stats mod!" I'm very curious as to why Easy Days hasn't made any changes to the stats.. even though it's the most asked for change.. or at least add tricks like Late flips, impossibles, body flips or pressure flips. They have made steps to allow Console players to play modded maps ( which is great ) but No steps to improve the vanilla gameplay ( as far as we know ). i really hope they don't just try to cover up the gameplay by adding loads of community stuff and only relying on that.

people don't talk about skate 3s floating physics because its more of a arcade game. We complain about skater xls floaty physics because its supposed to be a realistic skating sim so I don't think that people are complaining because they saw modded gamplay i think if there were no mods people would still complain about the floating

The fact is EDS charged $40 for the game and instead of getting maps created by there own devs we get lame community maps which have horrible layouts and the scaling of obstacle is really bad, graphic clipping which interrupt certain flip tricks, almost all grinds and slides and manual/nose-manuals and revert dead zones are super finicky

So I've been skating for the last 18 years and I agree with you. BS and FS can be confusing but a long time ago someone explained it to me and it makes sense. When you're in Nollie and do a backside the back of your body is what's moving first and viceversa when you do a frontside the front of your body is what moves first. Same thing regular. When you do a frontside flip the front of your body is what moves first. I hope it makes sense.

You're justified in what you said, tbh. Easy Day is a small studio that loves skateboarding. They didn't get money from EA, or Activision to make it, but they did their best as an independent studio to provide an update that would make the game better, and sometimes bugs just happen. Games are so hard to make and they deserve a lot more patience than what the community is giving them. All for holding folks responsible, but maybe give them a break. I can assure you they're freaking out about it way more than anyone else right now.

I don't know if there is only me but the maps i downloaded on the mod browser disappear but they reappear like 5min later . I just play an easy day map for 5min and go to custom maps and the maps are back. so maybe the glitch of the maps desappearing every time you open the game is just that you gotta leave some time before trying to play applewood or grant skatepark or riverfern, i don't know...

I think, full disclosure... that people were expecting a lot more of an update that was really hyped and anticipated, and a lot of people were underwhelmed. It seems that some were hoping for a basically “2.0” update, as opposed to the. Actual 1.1. Easy day still has a lot of stuff they’re gonna do. Granted console players (myself included) have been really patient after the hiatus easy day took after XL’s release. But, I have no doubt in a year or so the game will be majorly updated. That being said, no matter what you can’t please everyone... I’m just happy we have a skateboarding game like this.

I reckon they should add 1 slider just for gravity so like a scroll one where far right is the highest left is the lowest

Quebec is completely skate-able. Took me some time to get used to but if you just do 2 small pushes, it’s the perfect speed to hit the rails and ride through the park

I fully agree man! I’m a console player that’s been at it since release. I love this game . I’m loving the direction they’re taking skateboarding gaming. If you’re complaining...remember....we all didn’t have ANY new skateboarding videogames for like 10 years till session and xl came about in early access! Everyone be patient. If your pissed about Quebec being too small, then shit get practicing because it’s not. If anything it’s got some of the best flow. The game doesn’t work after the update?? Be patient! I’m a ps4 player too. It’s all good. They’re literally out there (Easy Day) pushing the limits of what this can be...ambitious and forward thinking. Just wait. It’ll be greatness.

I actually just got Skater XL for PS4 a few days ago. Never played it before. Thanks to Garrett i decided to finally tie the knot, so to speak (shout out to Easy Day to show some love to Garrett!!!). And I like Quebec! So far I have not yet experienced any game breaking bugs or glitches, nor crashes. Is the gameplay floaty and too slow? It absolutely is!!! I wish Easy Day would give console players the option to adjust the gravtiy settings and so forth just like the PC-mod. But so far, for the amount of money I paid, I am very happy with what I got.

Personally Quebec is probably the park I have spent most of my time on so far I find it vary fun and skateable. For the other maps I think riverfern works really well and is super fun but Apple wood still feels like my Xbox can’t handle it make it harder to skate

I almost didn't click on this video because of the clickbaity nature of the title, but you pretty much hit the nail on the head with what you were saying. Also, I'm surprised so many people are just now finding out about the switch stance pin dropper button, and I find it hilarious that somebody actually took the time to develop a mod to be able to do so, regardless of it being a vanilla option in the game (but also shoutout to that person because I respect anybody who goes out of their way to create mods for the community)

Easy day released a update on ps4 yesterday and they fixed the glitch of the game crashing but every time you load it up you still have to redownload the maps and gear

After the last vid I went back and played Quebec, on Xbox One btw, and it was kinda fun. I think my issues are more with the actual park layout and how small it is and not as much about the gravity. I skate realistically but I like maps where I can set a pin and then try to link the entire map in one line doing different tricks. I don't like letting a pin infront of 3 obstacles and just constantly resetting. But that has more to do with my playstyle than anything Easy Day did. I do think our gravity is too floaty and one push is slow slow it's boring but 2 pushes is a little fast, especially for the quarter pipes but I can deal with it, especially if they're releasing more maps. I also went back and played Riverfern again and had more fun than I'd had on Applewood. I also understand that the Easy Day designed maps work so well because they were laid out to work with the console settings or factory settings. That's why clips don't look weird and why it's so fun. The same way Skate 3 doesn't seem ultra unrealistic when you're playing maps that the devs designed. I get quebec is a real park that was probably made in game by someone with stats menu, so it'll always flow better with modded stats. I just want to make it clear that I never felt like we were scammed or lied to. Easy Day developed a revolutionary skate game, set up where actual skaters feel cool doing tricks but non skaters can have fun and don't feel left out. They listened to their players and figured out how to incorporate Mod.io. They're doing a ton of work for what seems like a tiny unknown studio. Honestly I still have fun just playing the high school and I've had the game since the day it was released on console. Every time I load it up, I get lost for atleast 30 mins at the high school before I remember what else I was gonna do. It really is a great game. Look at how cyberpunk is performing on consoles and how the devs have treated the entire thing, how long it took to even come out. Now look at easy day. You tell me which should be "cancelled"

Garrett, I think you are actually privileged because you do have mods. We are not complaining that the game's vanilla physics are bad... we are explaining that theres only so much we can get out of the lack of control over them. We don't have the option of turning mods on and off. We are stuck with vanilla settings no matter what. We havent ever gotten to play with anything other than vanilla settings. I'll use your Skate 3 point as a parallel: people love skate 3 but got tired of it because it is limited to every trick looking identical. I love this game but when I see what it can be vs what it currently is, it kind of bums me out. The fact that the pop height is limited to either "very high" or "way too high" and *nothing* else is very frustrating. And while this game is amazing and has endless potential, we just want to be able to have more control of our experience, just as PC players do. The argument is not that Quebec is impossible to skate. It's that it doesn't flow, and is apparent that it wasn't made to 1 push around the entire park. It feels like you're skating tiny obstacles in that park. Besides the speed, the default pop height is way too high, especially for that map. It's gotten to the point where I get bored after 20 minutes of playing because everything I do looks just a little bit off. I see you, Nightspeeds, and Milky etc. playing and it makes me see the potential for greatness this game has, yet I am not playing that same game. Props to Easy Day for making a great game in which you have a ton of control over what your board does, and even more props to the team for adding clothing and map mods. That is a huge step in the right direction. But let's be honest, the game on console is vastly different than the PC version. It sucks that we are left out of this experience, that's all. Cheers. Edit: the "if you want mods just get a fucking pc" argument is not valid. It's impractical to assume that everyone can afford or has the desire to get a PC just for skater xl. We should not have to invest in a PC just to get an experience that let's us alter out pop height and speed, that just doesn't make sense. The game costs the same amount of money on all platforms, so to get more of an experience on one platform than another is unfair in that regard.

5:11 I hear your theory, but I’m gonna have to disagree. Yes, if you’ve been watching modded gameplay for so long you’re gonna find vanilla SXL floaty, but it’s not the only reason. Why is the gravity being tinkered with mods in the first place? Because it’s floaty, to a point where it’s unrealistic, so people made mods. It’s not just a feeling (of floatiness), it’s a fact. My girlfriend, who saw me watching a Toasty Ghost video (who plays on vanilla settings), found the gameplay to be floaty and she has never seen modded SXL gameplay. The skate games are “floaty" as well but at the time they were the most realistic skating games out there so nobody complained about that. And the games were still arcadey, they had a point system and everything, it wasn’t a hadcore unforgiving skating simulation, it was way more accessible for everyone, so it’s way easier to overlook the floatinness when you got stuff like locking onto grinds like a magnet. Point is, Skater XL being a hardcore, unforgiving skate sim, should not have this unrealistic gravity. It’s tedious and throws you off the experience at times, that’s why people made mods to change the gravity and why so many people use these mods.

I always like and respect your videos and how you have the discussions some people might not. I am on console and would still pay the $40 dollars even if I knew that we wouldn’t get half of what pc does. My only hope for the future even if the stats mod never comes is that I feel once you’ve pushed 3 or more times that you reach max speed with vanilla settings. It’s hard to do bigger gaps, for example the big stair set in applewood, when you can only go a certain speed. I love the game and appreciate that a small team tried to put a skateboarding game in our hands for the first time in a long while and think this game is going in the right direction

You're totally right with just hating on things is not the right way. But, obviously this skate park has'nt the right dimension for a proper Skater Xl experience on console, which also applies to California Skatepark, by the way! But this doesn't mean that they are bad maps. In my opinion, bigger maps like Downtown La or the Court Yard do a good job with giving you a realistic skate experience, because they have a proper dimension/physics ratio. Maybe they can adjust this, if they plan to realize more skatepark maps on console.

A frontside rotation is ALWAYS one where your front (face, stomach, etc) face forward as you turn. A backside rotation is ALWAYS when your back (butt, back) faces forward as you turn.

I don't know, I've been playing Quebec a lot on my PS4 Pro haha like you mentioned I too only push once or twice and try to let the momentum of the tricks flow if done properly.

Whatever way you are facing halfway through the rotation of the trick, that will be the indicator between frontside n backside.That's how I learnt it anyway

I’m not hating, but in skate 3 you can pop a very small height on hard mode and adjust that yourself, where in skater XL the lowest pop height is way to hight - but I do agree the Quebec park is mostly skate-able on console (I use Xbox), I do think there should somehow be a stat menu if it is possible

You couldn’t be more right man. This game is great and we should all be thanks full that they are giving us FREE content and they acknowledged their problems and are continuing to work on them. I think that’s pretty clear. I’m really surprised at the negative reactions. It seems like it’s all gonna get fixed.

Quebec is one of my favorite maps on console since the drop. But honestly I don't skate the park often just the hockey rink. Something about DIY style of he boxes and rail just hit a sweet spot for me. I load up the map and spend 45 minutes in the hockey rink.

In the settings you can change it to click to catch. I’m pretty sure please check in a video to verify.

I don’t think it’s productive for ppl to send excessive hate to easy day but at the same time I play skater xl on console and have waited I’m sure similar to others for some sort of change to the game to happen since I bought it on release for £30 which is quite a lot of money and then to wait months in anticipation to then have an update which not only is dysfunctional in itself but also caused my entire PlayStation to crash 4 times in the first 15 minutes of playing is poor of the studio and really disappointing considering my previous expectations of what it would be

You should talk with Easy Day devs, since I'm guessing you have access to that, and ask about the possibility of them implementing a stats menu into vanilla gameplay, for consoles as well. I'd love to hear from them on that, and also if they're going to work on multiplayer, that's better than the multiplayer mod.

It's not unskateable, but the way you have to skate it is unrealistic. For a simulator, this is a problem.

I agree with Garrett I think that the mad is harder with vanilla setting but I don’t hate the game I just don’t play on the map and if they don’t fix the glitches to bad I’ll keep on playing because there other maps and things that do work

I actually love Quebec and I play on PS4. I realized right away I'd have to just go slow and the first time I didn't like it, but came back to the map later and it had a lot of cool stuff, also I know there was an update to fix the maps disappearing when you turn the game off

You also have to remember that this is easy days first game (I think)

I’ve played on pc since January and didn’t start using the stats menu until July so I rock with both settings. You can still be mad stylish on vanilla settings

So I think people say skater XL is floaty because of the height and the actual way that your character pops, I can’t put my finger on it but it almost looks like you go up and hang out for a second before landing

I play on ps4 and I am not disappointed by the physics, still one of my favourite skateboarding games

Quebec is fire imo, I'm having the most issues with riverwood. shitty splices, the map keeps buggin, theres certain ledges an such that if you're in a manual it will just cancel it for literally no reason, an ledges that just stop you no matter the speed/angle/grind. had 4 different homies do it at home on console and on my personal console an they got the same thing.
