Tomtoc bags have made an impression on the travel and EDC communities over the last few years with their line of purpose built bags and slings. This 14 inch compact EDC sling is no exception as an incredibly rare confluence of quality and affordability.
In our testing we'll try to fit an 13 inch MacBook Pro, 11 inch iPad Pro, Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, and a Kindle Paperwhite inside to see how it fairs.
Overall we really, really like this bag. We're happy with the solid construction and simple flourishes like the quilted interior and padded laptop sleeve. A lot of time and attention was paid to the details with this bag, from the thick, reversible shoulder strap to the quality water resistant materials and YKK zippers. We found the bag comfortable and simply easy to forget about after a long day spent toting it around. The slim and flat profile allows the bag to hold a surprising amount of every day stuff.
Our only real gripes are with the minimalist styling reminiscent of iPod era tech bags and colorways that include only black and khaki. Hopefully tomtoc will bring some of the fun styling and color choices over from their latest line of Nintendo Switch slings. Thankfully the details and flourishes added to the bag elevate it's look just a bit.
We're also just a bit worried about the longevity of the rubber seal added to the zippers and other rubberized materials on the bag. While this is certainly a boon to water protection, these elements in a bag can be prone to becoming gummy, cracking, or flaking as time passes. Perhaps we'll update this review in a few years to check back in on it's progress!
