Hell, ticket prices are becoming unaffordable.

One memory from my last tour is staring at the ceiling of the shared room of my two-star hotel (my guitarist proclaiming that 'one-star' is sleeping outside in the car) after a 28-hour day and wondering whether the frugality was worth it. EDIT: Oh! i forgot to mention the clock-radio going off in the next room from 5am onwards. Ahhh...good times!

Touring's a grind and a labor of love. Sequestered, often nasty green rooms with dilapidated couches and band-sticker covered walls, doors, ceilings, and visible plumbing. Good times! Holy Grail gear? Jerry Garcia's McIntosh "Budman" rig or Ace Frehley's 1975 rig. I ain't picky!

Bucket list gear: I've oned 800s, 900, Tsl and Dsl. Sold all of them to afford a JMP.... Sold the JMP a fee month later to re-buy my 800... The grass wasn't greener on the other side.

Tour stories?? I LOVED touring. Let's see.. in a rock biker bar in Wisconsin, a brawl broke out among some 300 pound bikers and it rolled right onstage, across stage front, and back out on the floor..we didn't miss a note. Or the time a bar owner in Miami pulled a gun on the band because they refused to lower stage volume. Or the girls.. shall we?

2:18 I use the DiMarzio low-friction pots exclusively in all of my guitars. They’re perfect for the volume and tone knob riders.

Great video. Love that Strat. That compressor was too cool with two of them. It really sounded great. No noise either! Love that part. ❤ My friends band is a corporate band and they play like you guys and travel locally and regionally. Wow. Trem for 8 string is hard. I would have said the Floyd, but maybe not. I would think maybe they will have to design from scratch. I don't know of one to be honest. Love those Roboto guitars. How's the cat doing? My dream piece of gear is an original broom guitar. Steinburger. I would love to try one. I've tried the parker and it was great, but at the time I thought it was so damn ugly. 😂. It was cool and the first guitar that was very light weight, had an excellent trem and stainless frets.. Speaking of stainless frets. I've just about finished my black strat with pearl white pickguard with EMG 85 B and 60 N. I originally messed up the nut. Now I fixed it and put a 42 mm smaller nut so the strings don't go right to the edge of the neck.. It has a Warmoth thin C neck with jumbo stainless frets. Maple quartersawn neck with maple fretboard with dots. I put staggered tuners on it that lock and a nice all steel 6 point trem with thick steel block to make it sing. About to try it here today or this week some time. I think I will even try black coated strings to go with the metal theme.. 😂 Great Q and A brother. I'm always amazed at how smooth you play with your pinky. Do you have any exercises to train it? No matter what i do, mine feels too stiff

😂Yea I'm using my mid-life crisis as an excuse to play and buy the iconic guitar's that I dreamt of as a kid, like you said the iconic stuff that forged rock/metal history, so I gotta have a Strat,single cut, Wolfgang,Jem ...just need a warlock and a white Randy Rhoads 👍then the planets will align.

I always wonder how Aussie bands do it - seems like a huge distance between major markets/cities, and travel overseas to Europe or US markets is quite a hike! Of course it's tough just about everywhere. I find like, much like you mentioned, it's all down to the decent-paying festival gigs and building a tour around them. With rental vehicle, airfare, and hotel costs, it's a heck of a feat to make any $$ touring these days.

Man, I ride the bridge volume of my LP’s……ticks me off that for the last 10 years, they’ve been great, but I think I’ve had 4 different bridge volumes in 2 different LP’s in the last 2 years 😭

Would love to get my hands on a TC1210 unit. So far as I know there's not a chorus unit out there to match is "spatial effect" wide chorus in a modern pedal.

Have found that touring costs have blown out big time. Flights, accommodation, transportation are all getting beyond most independent acts. Getting a grant from any government - local, state or federal is an insane amount of work for anyone who also holds down a day job. On a positive note, people are still getting along to see independent original acts and those that attend show much love for the scene. Love your channel LT.

Check out A brand of pots from the USA called Vintage inspired Pickups. Direct copy of the old Centralab pots from the 50’s I have them in my Guitars amazing sound and perfect taper! Check them out!

I feel quite grateful that getting into Fractal’s stuff has largely eliminated my GAS (for guitar gear anyway), but for actual guitars, my holy grail would be speccing out a PRS Private Stock guitar. I have some ideas for the specs, but it really would be a pie in the sky gear addition.

I had a Parker Fly and I sold it. I still don't know why...

We've been really lucky and never lost money on a tour. In fact. we've been making money. Not alot mind you but everyone gets a little bit after its all said and done after the expenses come out. The biggest problem we face is the real life vs tour life. Still gotta work, and our touring agent and management are wondering when we can do a couple 4 week runs. Ugh!

Question: So, if you're just breaking even on touring, how do you survive financially? I mean, what are the income stream(s)? Record sales, merch, YT... do you have a day job? I'm a home musician and don't tour, I have my own software company... but in the case of being a fulltime touring musician, I am clueless as to how this is financially feasible.

Man, it is already unaffordable. I remember 20 Years ago when I threw in my live sound engineer hat, I was making about $100 a set, and that meant missing out on a $200 paying shift down rhe road at woolworths. And even at that pitiful rate, having their own sound guy was sending the band broke

Touring is not what it used to be. In Europe is complex ss f snd the US is not possible. Japan has always been difficult.

The (rock) music industry is fucked... after corona It got complicated. I quit being a (german) event technichan and started doing service tech for industrial gastronomy... eben in germany its really badly paid being a qualified "rodie"

Hot take: Steinbergers are solid proof that tonewood is overrated

I tend towards looser volume pots as I use pinky swells a lot in my playing ala Phil Keaggy. PRS pots seem to be pretty spot on for my tastes, CTS pots are WAY too stiff for me to use.

My advice is to find the parts before you start the build. Been there.....
