The Klipsch KF-28 speakers look almost identical to my Klipsch F3s that I purchased from hhgregg in Knoxville, TN in 2012. I have a Klipsch 7.1 system and it is still going strong and sounding great....Knock on Wood!

I just got the R-610-F and i am impressed for a 2 way single 6½" tower speaker. I came from a pair of cerwin vega vs-100's from the late 90s i owned since i was a teenager and these reference towers have almost as much bass as those old 10" paper cone loud speakers.

Did you only use the 2 towers? I ask because I’m a cv guy and looking to switch to the klipsch 8s I have the 12s from the 90s.

@bilfrompj It depends on what I'm watching or what genre of music I'm listening to. If I'm watching a movie, I will usually turn on my REL HT/1205 for the super low-end bass. Same if I'm listening to hip hop. If I'm watching TV shows or listening to rock I won't use my REL because the 6½'s seem to do just fine with anything 60hz and above. The 8's ought to be a bit better I'd imagine.

I purchased mine 2 years ago to the 820. I upgraded from Polk. The first thing I did was strength the cabinet and added insulation. I purchased a custom crossover set from Speaker man. The custom crossover really woke them up..

How do you go about finding custom crossover? Feel like my 820 kinda under preform for the specs unless I push way more wattage.

And I will say this, I agree with one guy and no one said this but clips crossover. Some of the crossovers are actually terrible for the set of speakers that they have so when I grew up a set of towers like this with 28 inch woofers and a horn like that would be completely filthy. I’m talking as far as they were produced space but for some reason clips speakers, you have to force you to get a subwoofer because you’re never gonna get the old base and trouble like you used to get out of old tower speakers. I’ll say this again if you have a tower, you see how the 820 is not on feetand that that old gray speakers have the feet on them that’s why that 820 sounds miraculously better because it’s not on these chicken feet don’t put those on your tower speakers unless you live in an apartment if you live in House, put those towers on the floor like they were put on the floor30 years ago and let them rock the house they will

Really nice comparing of both speakers. Neither sounds much different, as best as I can tell thru my computer speakers. Klipsch speakers (as most good companies) usually do have a "family resemblance" sound. Very nice cosmetics on the 820f. Funny about Klipsch and Bose too. Folks either love'um or hate'um. Klipsch especially, with the use of horn drivers, seem to have a PA, overly bright high end. Never been a fan of horn loading. It is an interesting mix of venting and horn loading though. Nice to see virtually every manufacture these days using Thiele/Small theory in speaker design. Electro-Voice and Ohm Acoustics were using this technology back in early 1970's. Way ahead of the crowd. Segway into my favorite speakers..... I have and enjoy Ohm model L and model H systems. Have had the L's since 1978. They have excellent stereo imaging, fuhgeddaboudit.

@@kringtheking2657- I'd appreciate your take on this. Can you describe the "huge difference" you mentioned? I am really interested to know as a good friend is looking to upgrade to the 820F. As you know (see above) I ain't no Klipsch fan. I advised her to keep lookin'. She's in the UK and don't have access to great vintage speakers from companies like; Acoustic Research, ADS, EPI, Genesis, Ohm, Infinity or Polk. I have several pairs of speakers; Ohm models L and H, EPI models 100 and 180 and Boston Acoustics A-40. All preferable to Klipsch, but that's MY take. Thanks.

@@martyjewell5683 i like other brands aswell. Klipsch really needs a good sounding room and not all electronics will be a good match. I loved my R28-f but the rp is better dynamics, not harsh tweeter like r28 can be, bass is more on rp so need abit further from the wall because its fires backwards. Its way more detailed on top even if you push it. Clarity bass respons, it sounds more expensive and it is :P . I will keep the rp and sell my r28

The Tactrix horn is slightly smaller on the r28f, but you said tonality was the same, so maybe just aesthetic, still curious. Also the Reference series have better components. Someone did a teardown and found better crossover parts and overall higher quality innards, premium components all around, not just the cabinet, but yea, a better cabinet and better components will cost a bit more, and there's the question of durability, my sister ordered a Synergy series set and one of the speakers started crackling over time and I've had the OLD Klipsch RF-3 II for more than 10 years and still going strong! Anecdotal, but my confidence on the Synergy series dropped. Other reviewers can tell the difference in sound, specifically sound stage, but not everyone is going to be able to notice, if you're not an audiophile or enthusiast, you're probably fine with the cheaper ones.

Sup bro, I used to own a pair of r28f and upgraded recently to the r8000f thinking oh latest and greatest big upgrade. Nah it literally sounds the same. And most ppl usually say the icon series/r28 are watered down low tier klipsch product. It’s the same thing

I have the Icon series and they’re the same as the Reference series. In fact, Icon was the exclusive brand for Best Buy before it was rebranded “Reference” later. Same specs, just a different look. The Reference Premier are a different story. Definitely notice a difference there.
@zack6892
@zack6892 Жыл бұрын
I would say it all depends on your setup and layout. Rear/ front firing both have their place. If you won't get any benefit in your staging I would skip the upgrade and stick with what you got and add a preamp to setup the r28 as biamp speakers. The 820 don't have dual binding posts you could still run on a preamp but I feel like they kinda skimeed out on the 820 to make them a better value. Love the 820s I got but feel like they need more power then most receivers push out to really get them to shine. That being said I would say some of the best towers for the price you can get them for 300$ if you watch for the sale. If your gonna upgrade would go to the rp8000f or even the r620f if your using surround sound.

@@zack6892I was walking around best buy yesterday and I got a pair of the 820 for 240.00 bucks I could not believe what I was seeing they were the floor models but they were in mint condition and they gave me a 9 year warranty on replacements parts for the whole speaker then they even therew in a Klipsch subwoofer for 50 bucks! Then they threw on the demo receiver too which was a Denon avr760 I believe all said and done they gave me a package deal of 850.00 out the door. I couldn't believe it I thought it was a huge joke.

Today’s Reference line replaced the Best Buy exclusive Icons line. The first generation Reference line looked just like the Icons but woofers were painted copper. Those looking to Upgrade want the Reference Premiere line.
