I personally think that the Van Helsing movie is underrated, so hearing that the game based off of it is decent as well piques my interest. I'll definitely have to give this one a shot. Great video!

I'm so happy you dig this game. I haven't actually completed it since my original playthrough when it was new - itching to get back into it now! I love The Xbox. So many awesome titles to be had for very little money.

personally i was quiet found of the game i considered it a true diamond in the rough was a October tradition to play this game along side Scooby Doo Night of 100 frights also a very great game

Thanks for another great review. I loved the movie as well as the animated movie prequel. So glad this game is compatible with the Xbox 360. I just bought it and can't wait for it to arrive.

I just discovered your channel, I'm not in the ass kissing business but this needs to be said.. How your channel does not have far more subs is beyond me, because you deserve it. Your voice is perfect for this, your tonality and ability to read through a script as if you're speaking of the top of your head is superb. The scripts themselves are so tight and highly informative as well. These videos really take me back to the old days of G4 TV, shows like X-Play, Electric playground and Judgement day. I'd love to see a " Is The Thing (xbox/ps2) underrated?" video, maybe one on a Serious Sam game for the xbox as well... Keep up the great work!

My nostalgic side totally ignores all the downsides of this game. Played it a ton in my childhood. Movie and game is REALLY underrated.

If you are looking for licensed action horror games I recommend the Evil Dead games: Evil Dead: Hail to the King for Dreamcast, Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick & Evil Dead: Regeneration for PS2 or Xbox. Main bonus is that the Main Character in the games is voiced by the actor who played the same character in the films - Bruce Campbell!

I forgot this game even existed. I wrote it off hearing it was an awful game based on a movie I hated. Now I definitely need to pick this up. Also, it was really awesome hearing you on DCJY Dreampod. You did great (when don't you?), and it's great seeing you get some more exposure.

Yeah, Van Helsing is a no brainer I got my copy for just $.99 a month or two ago :) Definitely a nice surprise! Glad you enjoyed the DCJY as well, those guys are pretty awesome!

I have enjoyed this game, and am currently playing it for this month of Halloween. Wish it was promoted more back in 2004 i only found out about it yeara ago at a local game shop.

I remember them promoting this game pretty well.. I think my copy came with a ticket to the movie, and they had massive cardboard cutouts of Hugh Jackman in every blockbuster ever

Thanks for the review. I saw this game the other day at my local retro store for pretty cheap. I will be purchasing it next time I visit. Thanks again and keep up the excellent underrated videos.....I picked up Crash'n burn, Raze's hell, and Indiana Jones for the original xbox on my last trip. All are pretty good so far. Check them out if you haven't already.

I find it funny all the hate the movie got. When I saw the trailer when I was 14 I knew it was gunna be dumb, but it was a good dumb fun action adventure that pays tribute to the classic universal monsters. It's a B MOVIE, Plus it's a fun movie to watch around halloween. I just ordered the game on ebay along with the animated movie.

I've only played the ps2 version and this was during the game's release, plus this was before I had played any Devil may cry game. This game was lots of fun and has aged far better than the film. It's one of the best licensed games, esp of that era. The Warriors is in another league, but this is a great "normal" licensed games. Speaking of licensed games, have you played that Kim Possible ps2 game? Great platformer, morseso for being ps2

People have mentioned Kim Possible in the past. But yeah, this game is kind of amazing, especially being a licensed game. Can't wait to keep trucking through the 2000's era of licensed game to find some more treasures :)

+implantgames I can't recall playing any other LotR games besides Fellowship and Two Towers. I only played Fellowship a few times before getting rid of it. I remember Two Towers being excellent. It's like that shitty Sega Ages 3D remake of Golden Axe, except really good. Like how Van Helsing's themes translated to the video game world well enough so that even if the player hadn't seen the films the game is still stands as just a good fantasy hack n slash. The soundtrack/score is great as well

If you ever pick up devil may cry, definitely start with the first one. Awesome game. If you have a PS3 you can get the devil may cry collection which includes 1, 2, and 3.

I remember seeking this out as a young little guy and loving the game. In hindsight, seeking out a movie tie-in was stupid and a bad idea. Also in hindsight, it was a fantastic idea.

Your review of this game has renewed my interest in Van Helsing, in fact I just bought the novel because of it. Anyway, I absolutely loved this game to the point I got almost every cheat glyph. If you still do reviews for old and underrated games, I honestly recommend the PS2/XBOX platformer game Taz: Wanted (Yes the Looney Tunes character). Also for some reason I really used to struggle with the "Blood Bath" easter egg challenge in the Netherworld

I remember buying the game cheap and not expecting much from it but boy was I wrong. Once I started I couldn't stop. I loved the focus on ranged combat since it fits the character and the melee combat, while simple, was still enjoyable and you could string some combos. Not only that but the different enemies you fight were cool. Overall a pretty fun game and it has gone to be one of my favorite ps2 game.

You really should see the film. It’s excellent. Especially if you liked The Mummy as it has all the same time of things that made that film so enjoyable. Just with a tad more action and a tad less humor.

I actually really liked this game because it was the most "Castlevania" game in a time with not many Castlevania games, and the 3D ones being rather terrible. I'm curious what you think of the GBA version of this game should you look at it. I've had the game for a while and I honestly couldn't tell you what I thought of it, it's just weird :P

From my experience and what I remember as a kid the controller on the PS2 works better than the Xbox controller for this game, didn’t have the problems you mentioned

This game seems right up my alley. Horror and action combined is my PB&J. The reason I never played the game was because I disliked the movie so much. My mom took me to see it, because I constantly asked, but we ended up walking out of it. I think the movie defiantly works well for a video game adaptation.

Want another licensed hidden gem in the same vein as Devil May Cry? Try the nightmare before Christmas by Capcom... It's developed by exactly the same team that developed Devil May Cry 3. Pretty amazing and pretty unknown. You should cover it.

If you liked this game's gameplay style, you REALLY should try Devil May Cry, especially 1 and 3. I'm actually surprised just how much it curbs from the series. This does fill a solid niche, however, as the original XBOX never had a Devil May Cry game, making this a solid alternative. Given the way it uses the White and Black buttons, It seems that the controls were made with the PS2's four shoulder buttons in mind

Yeah, I think the Xbox 260's bumpers would really smooth out the controls. I think this one is backwards compatible as well...

implantgames Yup, I actually started my channel with the soul purpose of let's playing games that no else had done yet on KZfaq shooters in particular but that eventually drove me crazy, so now I just let's play whatever I want. But every now and than I will try to let's play something that isn't already let's played on KZfaq. In fact I just finished let's playing classified the sentinel crisis and will uploading it soon. I haven't found any let's plays or walkthrough a of the game yet so.I even tried asking multiple KZfaq game reviewers to review games that didn't have reviews on KZfaq mainly shooters, and I would tell them; hey if you review this game you will have the only review on KZfaq of said game. But every cant have the same goals, i get that. I believe I still have the only let's play for Cold War for the original Xbox, and fallout brotherhood of steel for the ps2, and a few other games.

Sierra in the EU and Vivendi Universal in NA.

implantgames Both were the same. Sierra used to be a sub-division of Vivendi Universal Games from 2000-2006, and then became the publishing label for the company.
