Las Vegas Nevada isn't exactly known as a city for transit. However, there are quite a few different transit options that can get you around the city! In this video we take a look at some of the transit options to get around Las Vegas and how effective they are!

I’ve lived here since birth. Vegas has everything going for it except it’s transportation planning. Ever since I got deep into urbanism, I can never look at my city the same again, seeing the sheer stupidity in the way they decided to spend the last 100+ years building this place.

It's definitely not perfect as you said, but at least their bus system is something! Eight dollars for a day pass on their bus system (and five on the bikeshare network you mentioned) is a steal! The fact that The Deuce uses double-deckers is even better! Using double-deckers not only provide more capacity of course, but also attracts tourists to using public transit in the case of seeing the Las Vegas Strip in all its nightlife flashy glory! But yeah, the fact it's so expensive to ride the Las Vegas Monorail is...not great. With the density of the Strip and how much of an economic/tourist engine it is and how the airport is right next to the strip, it is ripe for like a REM-style system! Don't get me started on Elon...ah yes, the solution to traffic on the surface....traffic but in a tunnel! I think the wild part about the Las Vegas Strip...is that it's not actually in Las Vegas! The majority of Vegas resorts are in Paradise, a town created in 1950 so that the resorts WOULDN'T pay taxes to the city of Las Vegas. Vegas tried to absorb the strip that year, and then the state government itself tried absorbing the strip for Vegas in 1975 and also failed because the Nevada Supreme Court rejected it.

As a frequent visitor to Vegas without a driver's license, I find the bus system very good as well. Like you said, I can basically get anywhere with 1 transfer from the Strip area. Buses and a bike path even go the quiet town of Boulder City. I like to ride the bike paths around the metro area and the River mountain loop trail to Hoover Dam by day, then just hang out at Fremont St or downtown by night. I hate the Strip too and the Deuce bus has terrible on time performance on top of that. Probably the only "walkable" area is the UNLV campus near the Strip; it's so quiet when you walk off the surrounding stroads. Never try biking on the stroads in Vegas... it's a death trap that I survived once.

i’ve lived near the very south end of the strip since i was a child. vegas is such a wide city that getting from one side of town to the other especially in the summer can be just short of an extreme sport. the farther away from the center of town you get the more difficult bus stops are to find too

Resident of Las Vegas. It has the WORST planning in the nation. Among the highest urban area density in the nation (majority tiny lot housing) and car dependent! It’s not so attractive scene for pedestrians making it difficult to upgrade transit. That is why we need new master planned cities on the outskirts!

I didn't even know about the people movers between some of the hotels. Man you have it spot on. I walked when I was there. Outside the strip. That was an experience to say the least.

The curve radii (and the zero ventilation or fire safety) immediately defeat this, but I think Ganz MFAV trolley-subway cars could fit in the Boring tunnels. Do with this information what you will.

Vegas is the most perfect rail transit city without rail transit that ever existed. Millions of visitors without cars fly in to an airport super close to huge trip generators all laid out in a straight line. An elevated, automated light metro like the Montreal REM or Vancouver Skytrain running between the airport and downtown along Las Vegas Blvd would probably easily get some of the highest ridership for a single metro line in North America

Vegas is bad, if you don't have a car. I love transit, but if it is a better option to drive or there is no transit, I will drive. Love your channel!

I thought the Frequency in Vegas was terrible! but I did go like a year ago (2022), when more pandemic effects was still happening. Is there a reasonable way to make ally's with the vast Taxi and ride sharing apps (Uber etc.)? and make a Bus & Taxi lane down Las Vegas Boulevard? Every time except at 2am, that Deuce bus was late and bunching...

Honestly I think the deuce needs bus only lanes. The bunch is still pretty bad but frequency is pretty good throughout the day

I'm going start with a little trick. If you buy a local day pass, you can use it on the Duece. Ok, so i used to live in Las Vegas and used to drive for RTC. Vegas BADLY needs light rail, but the board keeps voting it down. Too cheap to realize the future. My thoughts on Vegas light rail would be to build it in the middle of Boulder Highway through Downtown and past UMC and onto Rancho Drive up to US 95 and Centennial Hills. And two more lines along Charleston and Tropicana. The Tropicana line would have the extension to the Airport. Unfortunately you can't put any rails on the Strip now due to F-1 race. Don't get me started on the bus system. Its a bunch of homeless and regulars who try at every chance to cheat the fare. Ive never seen such brazeness, even the kids do it. Its gotten much worse, from what ive heard from former coworkers. I rode the CX bus last May, a homeless guy got on and refused to pay and started harassing the bus driver. She had to get security at the BTC. RTC needs to work on the safety of their system. Other Agencies have contracted with local law agencies to serve as transit patrols, while others, like TriMet in Portland have their own police force gathered from police agencies in the district. RTC needs to do something about security on their system.

If they’re pushing for more BRT & bus only lanes, one thing that I reckon could be an easier sell or benefit to the rest of traffic: converting as many intersections with 100% protected left turns into alternative intersection designs like Continuous Flow/Displaced Left’s or good ‘ol fashioned “Michigan Left’s”. The latter would probably be far better fitting in the name of converting most traffic lights into VERY basic 2 directions per light phase as opposed to FOUR… to which means significantly more “green time” for everyone. On top of a better place than any to run the bus only lanes. From a driver’s POV, Michigan Lefts actually work better than plentiful average suburban arterials in general elsewhere. And from a transit investment POV, the whole project can be branded as an overall road improvement, congestion mitigation, “idiot proofing” (fewer conflict points per intersection, less potential for severe wrecks), much less impaired driver reduction among other things, on top of running buses like a regular LRT line…

The fact that such a tourist destination like Vegas doesnt have a more competent transit system is criminal.

With all of the money generated in Vegas you would think they could afford a light rail system. The obvious route is Las Vegas Blvd from Fremont, down the strip and to the airport. And don't anybody reading this mention the monorail. 🙄
